Great location in the heart of Stone Town. This hotel has so much charm. I could have spent an hour just exploring the trinkets and decor in the public areas. There were 3 cute little kittens that also wander around on the ground floor. The staff were lovely and super helpful with booking tours and helping track down my lost luggage.

Worth noting that because the old streets of Stone Town are narrow and winding, cars can’t park at the front entrance so the taxis park around the corner and walk you to the door.

Very! friendly and careful with guests. I am quite allergic so they removed the carpet from room. Also the pool was very clean. They have new cameras and personal everywhere - super safe place for people who have to work with laptop and expensive stuff. All in all a very good hotel!

The grand door of the backside was open so some noise and dust came to the pool area.

This was my second visit and I still would recommend the place strongly with regard to the historic and inspiring flair it delivers. It was our second "pop-up photo shoot" and we still would see room for further creativity to do it again. Also I was impressed by the reception team: though it was a very busy time with all rooms being booked out and lots of guests departing and arriving, they keep cool professionality and cater well to clients' needs.

Lots of remarks in here refer to shortcomings of the breakfast. Indeed it is not the cosiest atmosphere and quality of some items rather could be assigned to a two-star establishment than the actual four stars. But on the other hand , one should see the number of guests, the available space and the price-value relation. Taking all this into account the breakfast is ok. For us it is of lesser relevance as Stonetown has outstanding and unique coffee places to visit - so we would dislike to be fully fed anyway ;-).

The location is central with 2 entrances. The staff is friendly and useful and the restaurant is quite nice if you don't want to walk in Stone Town by night. The authentic decoration is wonderful, transporting us back to time. The room we had was neat and spacious, fully equipped, with a nice little arab bath. Check the rooftop as the view over Stone Town is worth it!

It is more an information than a con: The pool is beautiful but located in the central patio, which is at the main entrance - therefore it is rarely used.

This is basically "Tembo Hotel without beach", a fantastic value for the price! The Location is perfect, huge rooms and public spaces, very nicely decorated. Don't miss to see the roof terrace!

The hotel is amazing, old and historic so if you like that you'll love the Dhow Palace! Our room had a little balcony, and amazing views of the Sea. The location is perfect for exploring Stone Town on foot.

It was disappointing that the pool wasn't functional when we were there. The restaurant took a ridiculously long time to prepare our dinner - we waited well over an hour, with only one other couple in the entire place. We expected slow service based on our experience elsewhere in Tanzania & Kenya, but this was the worst. At breakfast, we were rushing to meet our driver and they gave us boxes to fill and take with us, but they didn't have to go cups for coffee which was disappointing. These were small annoyances but kept the otherwise wonderful experience from being 100%.

Friendly staff, superb clean rooms and an extensive breakfast menu. The hotel architecture is interesting and offers great Stone Town views from the very top of the hotel. A great hotel for visiting the city.

Too short a stay.

The location is great, very close to everyoioim Stone Town. The staff were friendly & helpful. The room is huge and filled with old colonial decor, the photos do not do the hotel justice. The bathroom was clean, could do with an update but everything worked fine. There is a lift in the building,and gym opposite the hotel.

Breakfast options could be more choice.
