Booked my last night here after travelling Tanzania and Zanzibar for a number of weeks. It was a delight! The bed was huge and very comfortable, the staff were so accommodating and nothing was too much trouble. I felt like it was a home from home very quickly and as I visited in the low season they even allowed a late checkout so I could make use of the room before flying home. The roof top is a lovely place to enjoy breakfast or an evening drink. I would stay again, without hesitation and recommend to others!

It was all perfect.

Beautiful Hotel in old House in the middle of the city. Highly recommendable - Fantastic view! Perfect sunset location!

All good, restaurant is also good, but not top notch, especially breakfast bread rolls are a bit dry. Coffee machine was broken, so there was no real coffee, only powder which was a downer. Coffee machine needs to be fixed urgently :) This does not outweigh at all the overall quality and beauty of the hotel and the beautiful view from the roof terrace.

Swahili House is perfectly located near the center of Stone Town. We found the service excellent and the facilities first-rate. We visited in hot season and the air conditioning worked fine. You are a short walk to virtually all parts of Stone City. The upstairs terrace / bar area has a fantastic view of the city and very good drinks (go during happy hour). Breakfast is decent but nothing special. Please note that your taxi will not be able to drive directly to Swahili House. A good choice for a drop-off / pick-up point is the NBC ATM in front of Train's House (an old building fronting on a major road). The walk from drop-off to Swahili House will take about 5 minutes through some winding alleys. Swahili House can be difficult to find when you return from exploring Stone Town. Everyone on the street is very nice and if you say, " Mambo, iko wapi Swahili House" anyone you ask (particularly the kids) will be happy to point out which tiny street you need to take.

Breakfast could be better. Wifi is hit or miss but that seems to be a problem everywhere in Zanzibar. Bring a GSM data plan if staying connected is important to you. Actually, you should probably have one anyway so you can use Google Maps (amazingly accurate given the maze of tiny streets) to help you navigate.

I always like staying here for at least one night and unlike the other hotels that are trying to restore and maintain their properties, this hotel has a lift which is helpful

After travelling on a 12 night safari in Tanzania and finally arriving to Zanzibar in humid heat, a cold towel and welcome drink would have been very welcome at the reception. A welcome drink is available after you have checked into your room and made your way up to the rooftop bar

This hotel was superb. It was even nicer than I expected. The building is gorgeous and historical. The location is perfect, little winding street in Stone town a few streets away from the water which was nice and quieter than right on the water. The roof top was amazing! The breakfast provided many options with a stunning breezy atmosphere. Great restaurant options and cocktails as well. The room was spotless and very large, exceptionally comfortable.

Location was excellent in that the markets / souks were all within easy walking distance. Our room was spacious and comfortable. Rooftop bar was nice for lounging, as it received a nice breeze. The staff were exceptionally accommodating, friendly, and responsive. The architecture of the building was gorgeous.

It is located on a narrow street that is not accessible by car: you will need to walk a few hundred meters with your luggage if you arrive by cab; although most taxi drivers will assist with this walk. The options for breakfast food and the cocktail options in the afternoon were limited.

The location was good. The room was ok not as presented on the website but met our needs. The rooftop restaurant was very good for apéro / evening meals All the staff are friendly and attentive. The manager, Mr. Bakari is a kind man, listens and addressed our issues.

At check in we were checked into a basement room with no windows. This room was far from that which was advertised. The manager, Mr. Bakari was kind enough to put us in another room. Some improvement on breakfast variety would be good

Great location in the heart of Stonetown. Beautiful hotel and room. The staff were lovely and the roof top was great to have a cocktail at sunset and breakfast. The room was lovely although a tight squeeze to move around with the oversized bed!

The shower was difficult to use and you had to hand hold it. My partner was fine but I would have preferred something more flexible and a little lower!

Authentic hotel, hidden in the labyrinth of the small city “streets”. Very old building, tall, with high ceiling. Roof top restaurant have a great view.

No Wi-Fi. Coverage available on roof top restaurant, but without internet access. In the room it was not accessible at all. Room is really small, but cozy. Bathroom poorly separated from the living space, this may cause some problems if you are not alone in the room ;)
