Unlike a major chain hotel, this is simple and friendly and welcoming. The building is old and full of character - it isn't a white box hotel. The car park was FULL on Saturday night, and I think that tells you everything you need to know. If I add that I slept to eight hours of SILENCE, then this certainly fulfils the 'Bed' part of B&B. As to the 'Breakfast' part, well an extensive help yourself continental breakfast will satisfy most, and then add in the hot food cooked to your order and you're set up for the day. I should tell you that this hotel is 5-miles from anywhere, so you will probably have to go back to Ashbourne if you forgot your toothbrush or you wanted an evening meal; the restaurant only serves breakfast, which is a pity because it is a lovely room. There is The George at Alstonfield about 2-miles away which is a picturesque hamlet, but don't take a big car down this country lane, and if you want a meal then phone ahead; other pubs and restaurants are available on the A515 on the way to Ashbourne.

There isn't a WiFi password because there isn't any WiFi . So your connectivity will depend on what you can get on your phone provider. I'm not making a complaint about the WiFi because it persuaded me to switch off and relax, and that is ALL that you should do in such a beautiful part of Derbyshire.

The room was spacious, comfortable and warm. All the amenities you could need to hand. Staff were very welcoming and friendly, explaining the history of the hotel and local walks etc. The breakfast was amazing ... soooo much choice (can highly recommend the fresh baked croissants and full English breakfast). Parking on site and wifi available (though getting reception on your phone may be difficult depending on your network provider).I would definately stay there again on my next visit to the area. Exceltionally good value for money.

Google maps sends you to a house/location past the hotel. Watch out for the flags to make sure you don't have to try and do a u turn to get back to it. Obviously this has nothing to do with the actual hotel but thought I'd share so people avoid missing the entrance.

Great for a short stay if you are visiting the area. Location was perfect as we were there for a hiking weekend, but if you're looking for restaurants/pubs/nightlife you'll have to drive. This is a budget hotel and I dont mean it in a bad way. What you get is great value for money and a great stay. The hotel was very flexibile about leaving our cars on the premises even after we had checked out and gone for a days hike. Bed was surprisingly comfortable even though it didnt look like it at first glance - had a perfect nights sleep. Staff are warm and welcoming. The real surpise came in the morning. Breakfast is EXCELLENT, we really weren't expecting the variety and tasty cooked to order options. Overall I have to rate our stay as a 10. The facilities may not be to everyones preferences - they are good and clean, dont expect luxury but if your stay ends up being like ours, you'll leave very satisfied.

Hotel is located on a fast stretch of the road. Be careful driving out as you have to pay close attention in both directios due to speed of vehicles. But that's not the fault of the hotel.

Parking was good. Room was very clean with en-suite and shower. Wi-Fi worked well. Breakfast had everything juice, coffee machine, cereals, fruit, yoghurts, brown and white toast, butter or marg, selection of jams, honey and marmalade, and a well presented cooked breakfast in a light and airy room. Staff were very pleasant and helpful. A no fuss stay.

I don’t think there was a sign on the road, but Google got me there. The stairs creaked a bit but that didn’t stop me sleeping. Mobile phone connection was weak, but WiFi was good.

We recieved a lovely warm welcome from Lesley, who was informative and helpful about the area and where to eat etc. Our rooms were spacious and light , yet cosy and lovely and clean. The photographs don't really do the hotel justice. We had a lovely restful stay and a delicious breakfast with choice of fruit, yoghurt, cereals and full English. It was a surprising variety for the money we paid . Definitely would recommend.

Everything was perfect and very good value for money, the location is perfect if you are an avid walker, as there are many must-see places near the property. Would definitely visit here again!

I wish that it was a little more obvious where you are meant to park, as I was slightly unsure where to park when I first arrived, however I believe the staff are quite lenient about where you park so it is not an issue :)

The rooms were clean and comfortable, the location is lovely with a hiking trail behind the hotel making it ideal for dogs. All 4 staff members we encountered were friendly and accommodating . The breakfast was lovely. For dinner we drove to Ashbourne to the Steakhouse on the bowling green which allows dogs and is also very good.

Lovely friendly lady greeted us in the morning. We had previously asked if we could have breakfast a little earlier than the scheduled time and we were made to feel that this wasn’t a problem at all. We booked a double room and ended up with a lovely courtyard apartment. Choice at breakfast buffet was great and cooked breakfast was delicious. Macerator pumping system in the apartment bathroom took a bit of getting used to, but it certainly didn’t detract from an enjoyable stay. Everything was spotless, lovely high quality white bed linen The large king size bed was super comfortable. Very effective supplementary heater came in useful when we arrived a little earlier than planned after a bike ride, but super warm when heating came on shortly afterwards. A perfect spot for getting straight on to the Tissington leisure Trail network. We had a lovely few hours riding the trails. Also Coach and Horses, less than 5 minutes away by car is excellent for food.

Good location. Comfortable room. Dog friendly. Outside space and access to Tissington Trail. Friendly staff. Lovely breakfast.

Check in bit slow as we couldn’t find anyone at first (mid aft) and couldn’t phone/message as no signal. WiFi and phone coverage - couldn’t get either so tricky to plan walking routes or access internet in evenings. Staff said it was usually ok.

A perfect location, just where we needed to be. The room exceeded our expectations with a four poster bed and all facilities. The room was cozy, warm and quiet. An excellent full English breakfast set us up for the day. Staff were welcoming and very friendly. Nothing was too much trouble. We would definitely stay here again.
