The food was exceptional, both evening meal and breakfast. The lady that did the breakfast was lovely and the young lady in the bar on the evenings who is training to be a nurse was very pleasant, smiley and I think she will be a credit to her chosen profession ( retired nurse of 39 years). It was brilliant that Flint was allowed in the bar and the room was big enough to accommodate his crate. If anything we felt the decor was a little tired and could do with an update but it was clean and comfy and that’s the most important.

There was quite a bit of litter in the beer garden, couldn’t see any bins in the area, people do leave litter unfortunately but if there had been a bin or two they might think twice hopefully about dropping it on the ground.

The room was more spacious than expected for the money and very close to the venue that we were attending (Alton Towers) only a 15 minute drive. The bed was very comfortable and as little a thing as this seems, there was even a full sized kettle instead of a poxy travel kettle. the bathroom was modern and well furnished with lovely fittings and clearly has had good attention to detail while being kitted out. The only very minor grumble that i can think of was that the uht milks in the room had not been refilled which had we cared more about this could've easily been addressed i'm sure. The linen was clean and well presented and the room itself was clean, tidy and well presented. We also had dinner at the pub and if i had to say anything that wasn't glowing it would simply be that the portions are a little large but i'm sure that no one in there right mind would complain about value for money, there are small plates available on the menu.

there was nothing that i didn't like. there were two small things in the previous statement which i mentioned but these are not comlaints.

Lots of parking just off the main road. Room was spacious, well presented, towels, wardrobe, desk and bed comfy. Bath had shower over it, usual tea/coffee/hot chocolate with complimentary biscuits and toiletries. Pub meal was delicious, cheese board a good selection. Beer garden was nicely set out, toys for kids and two hutched rabbits to watch. Breakfast was delicious too. Looks like nice area for a few walks too

Not a complaint, just saying bathroom light automatic so annoyingly went off brushing teeth and turned on during late night visit!

The Royal Oak was incredibly clean and our room was so spacious and comfortable. En-suite bathroom was super clean and the entire property is clearly loved by locals. Ample parking, comfortable room and really easy to reach local attractions. Must mention how tasty the food was and such generous portions too - Thursday Burger Night was a treat and the cooked breakfasts in the morning were delicious!

Nothing! Although make sure that you route any SatNav/map apps to The Royal Oak Mayfield (because there are multiple with the same name, and we got a bit lost)!

location, friendly staff, good food and rooms clean and good tea and coffee choice.

stairs to rooms need new carpets all worn and old stair lift. bed very uncomfortable pillows need replacing also the spare pillows only had pillow protectors on no pillow cases. TV didn’t work properly didn’t matter too much as just somewhere to stay for a trip to Alton Towers. Dog in pub wee’d and it was not cleaned nor did the owners bring it to the attention of the staff. not the staff fault mainly down to the bad customers who thought it was funny their dog wee’d on the carpet.

We stayed here after a day trip to Alton Towers for our daughters 13th birthday. We had a lovely evening meal here and a couple of drinks. We had a full English breakfast the next morning with was so nice, the black pudding is the best I’ve ever tasted. Great portion sizes and prices. We had the family room for 2 adults and 2 children with a double bed, 2 single bed and a sofa bed which could have easily fitted 2 more people in the room if needed. The whole place was lovely a clean and we were all very well looked after. There is a lovely garden area where the children can play with a bouncy castle. Staff were very friendly and attentive, we will definitely be staying here again in the future and would highly recommend this place to stay.

The only thing I would change is the orange juice for breakfast

Plenty of room in the car park and check in was easy. Were shown to the room (Room 3) and is was lovely and spacious on the corner of the property, and even though this was at the front near a busy road once the window was closed later at night there was no noise. Dined at The Royal Oak on the evening and the food was great and portions very generous. Room was very quirky as there was a slope to the floor and is you really wanted you could sit on the toilet and look straight out on to the passing road, obviously not recommend but added to the uniqueness of the property. Bathroom also looked like it had recently been refurbished.

Breakfast menu was a little limited if you were expecting more than a full English or variation on this theme. Having said that The Royal Oak has a small number of rooms and what was available was still delicious.

amazing area, staff were all super friendly, the food was amazing and very generous, it was great value for money. overall a really great experience and would highly recommend.

the sheets we had where winter sheets which meant it got very hot at night seeing as we stayed closer to summer. the cups we had in the rooms where not very clean which was a bit disappointing when we wanted to have any drinks considering everything else was perfect.

Location was great. We travelled for alton towers and it was only a short drive away. Lovely beer garden which was a suntrap, food was great and big portions. Breakfast choices were large and varied and really set us up for the day ahead.

Glass door on bathroom leaves you feeling a bit exposed. It also allows automatic bathroom light in to the bedroom in the middle of the night. Just a little curtain on the door or frosting windows would solve it.

My 2yr old and I stayed last week for one night. From the moment we walked in, we were made to feel incredibly welcome and the place had a really warm atmosphere. Our room was perfect, exactly what we needed. I can't speak highly enough of the food...wow! Both the dinner and the breakfast far surpassed my expectations. The outside garden area was an additional bonus, after dinner I took my little one out there to burn off a bit more steam. Lots of little slides, playhouses and trikes there for him to play on, he loved it. It sounded like all the locals were having a wonderful evening but pretty much at 2300 on the dot, silence descended so even though this is a pub, I would still recommend for young families. Finally, I left my little boys learning pad behind and they contacted me immediately and have since posted it back as I was already on my way home. I really can't recommend this place enough. I'll definitely be returning when I'm next in the area.

Absolutely nothing.
