The Embankment is just across the road from a park and the river. We had a great view of both plus a spacious room with a sofa and desk. The service was great due to the extraordinary assistance from Kate who made our stay even more memorable. The vegan breakfast offering was very filling and tasty.

If a person has a street view as we did, he or she might be affected by the noise drifting up from the outside tables of the restaurant during the summer and, in the front rooms, there is a bit of road noise which might bother some noise sensitive people. It didn't disturb us, however, and we would choose both the park facing room and the hotel again for our stay in Bedford.

Really nice location, right in front of the river. The room was very spacious and comfortable and breakfast was delicious! I will definitely come back!

I was in the room right on top of the pub terrace, so it was difficult to sleep until the pub closed at 23.00 - it was OK for me but some guests may complain about the noise.

Well appointed comfortable room, generous hospitality tray in room, staff very helpful and friendly. On top floor so couldn't hear the buzz from very busy dining and bar area. Downside was two flights of stairs, but kept us fit. Didn't use restaurant as were down for family anniversary celebration. Breakfast delicious but thought a bit pricey. Super location, plenty free overnight parking on street outside, but don't forget to feed the meter at 8.00am. ( we did, an oversight which added to the cost of the weekend!!). Would certainly enjoy staying again 😀.

Breakfast delicious, but thought it a bit pricey, especially if you're expecting cereal, fruit and cooked as provided by most good B&B's.

The hotel managers and the rest of the staff were so friendly and helpful. Had a bad share of luck upon arrival because of the heavy rainfall and the managers went above and beyond to turn it around. Loved the room, such a classic aesthetic, nice comfortable sofa with coffee table, beautiful gold mirrors, the bed was so comfortable and the bathtub was heavenly! You are welcomed by bottled water on one of the nightstands and there's a nice tea tray with an electric kettle, a lovely selection of tea, coffee or even hot chocolate. When you opt for breakfast included, you get to choose what you like from the menu at the restaurant. I highly recommend the Handpicked Devonshire Crab with poached eggs and Hollandaise sauce on toast. The Luxurious Hot Chocolate is also quite delicious. A wonderful retreat that I would love to repeat.

The location is superb. Overlooking the river & very close to the town center, with free parking. The quality of the food at breakfast was excellent. The bar / restaurant areas and outside seating is lovely. The bed was comfortable & the range of hot drinks was superb.

The view from our room (14) was a brick wall across a narrow ginnel. Therefore, the room was always dark despite bright sunshine outside. We had a two night stay & the room was not serviced whilst we were out. Not even was the tea / coffee replenished. The shower cubicle was tiny & the water pressure in the shower was poor. Service at the bar could have been better.

The hotel is a beautiful, character building overlooking the river. The staff were very friendly and accommodating. We were staying at the hotel as we were going to a wedding in Bedford, so prior to arriving at the hotel we were informed that we could pick up our key early but couldn’t actually get into our room until 3pm. We arrived at the hotel at around 11.30am to pick up our key before going onto the wedding and we’re amazed when we were told that our bedroom was all ready for us to use straight away. This was such a kind gesture from the hotel as it meant that we were able to unload the bags from the car and freshen up after a long journey before going straight on to the wedding.

Maybe an extra sausage on the full English breakfast would have made the breakfast even better…

The room overlooking the river was excellent. Comfortable. Well presented. Well equipped. Very good bed. Staff were great.

Breakfast was rather disappointing. The breakfast menu was rather odd, with a wide range of choices more in keeping with a large city centre hotel. What appeared was much less exciting. My full breakfast, for example, was not freshly cooked. It had the feel of something reheated from a dried or frozen pack. The eggs, which are always fried in a 'full English', were poached. Tasty but not the right thing. And so on.

Good breakfast and dinner menu. Great beer selection with nice relaxed atmosphere around the place. Situated facing the river was also a great bonus, along with the private parking. Was nice to have a chat on checking out, added a personal touch to the stay. Dont know her name but I think she was Austrailian and super friendly.

Dinner service could have been a bit better, I appreciate it was a busy time. Noone came near my table after my main course was served, either to clear up my plate or offer dessert. I gave up waiting so had to go to the bar to charge my meal to my room. These things happen, not the end of the world. Wouldnt put me off staying again.

Lovely hotel in a beautiful setting. Rooms were as shown in the photos. Lots of tea & coffee and water (glass bottles) in the rooms on arrival, which was a nice touch. Staff very friendly with excellent service throughout. Liked the fact they had full bottles of shower gel/shampoo in the bathrooms and no single use plastic.

The rooms were really hot, they had fans on in the room on arrival, but once you turned these off it was very very warm and so hard to sleep. The pillows were also very flat/hard and need an update.

Exterior terrace, bar area, large well appointed (family) room with view over river. Comfortable large double bed. Slippers and bathrobe included and good array of beverages/biscuits. Quality of breakfast ingredients very good with named local sources.

Shower rubber mat dirty. Dinner over promised (menu descriptions) but under delivered. Belly pork very fatty, undercooked. Cod well cooked but basic accompaniments of a handful of rocket and potatoes uninspiring and overpriced at £20. Two drinks and 2 main courses £50. Unsustainable - restaurant on Friday night not busy. Very busy for morning coffees and breakfasts.
