We pulled up at 10pm, the village has no street lights and was dark but ok, when inside it was like arriving at The Prancing Pony, proper ye olde world but authentic, the single room was great, comfy, low ceiling due to the thatched roof, the bathroom was the same, just made it really cosy, I had a couple of beers in the bar which is really nice, olde world without being tacky. we left at 9am after a decent breakfast and coffee. I really would recommend this place, its an area of the UK that I have never travelled to before, but will hopefully be back at some point.

not being able to spend more time in this Inn

The staff were incredibly friendly and helpful, great breakfast and very comfy beds! The room was clean and the communication was very good.

We found the room to be incredibly small, which was fine for us as we were literally just using it to sleep, but if we had planned to relax in the room it probably would have been a bit underwhelming. It is a very old building, so do be prepared for noise to travel through walls etc. Value for money wise, we felt it was very expensive for what you got, however it felt relatively in line with the similar accomodation in Dorset over same weekend. Overall a positive experience, just a couple of things to bear in mind!

This is the second time we have stayed at the anvil inn. we stayed as a family of 5 between 2 rooms and the rooms were a well kept as they were the previous year. it is run very well and all the staff are really friendly. We arrived fairly late on Friday due to bad weather and traffic and the staff waited for us to arrive. Sadly this time we didn't have the pleasure of eating and drinking here in the evening like last time other than the breakfast which was as nice as ever.

not really a negative because it cant be helped due to the inn being an old building but creaky floorboards are pain when you have a toddlers sleeping in the same room. always a fear of waking them when you go to the bathroom. Other than that there really is nothing to complain about

Very friendly staff and great breakfast and bar menu.

Outside lighting is poor at night by the customers entrance making it difficult to find the keyhole when using the provided key. The boiler is quite loud if staying in the room close to it, made it a bit difficult to sleep. Tv could do with upgrading as it’s very small for size of room compared to most other hotels these days, capability to cast laptop to tv etc would be great. The wi-fi signal in the rooms is very weak which makes is a little frustrating if having to continue work in the evenings.

Staff were absolutely delightful – really warm and friendly, and they couldn't do enough for you. The room was really cosy. The breakfasts were lovely, and it was really nice to go down and have a drink/some food in the evenings. I wish I was still there!

There was nothing I didn't like – I had a really lovely time! The event I was attending was annual, and I'll be sure to book the Anvil when I return to the area next year.

Breakfast very good. Good system in place of of precise ordering in advance. Dined there every night and pub meals of very good standard. Room was very small but compact and functional.did not spend much time in it so was very ok. Decoration light and bright. Storage good. Presentation very good when walking in. Big fluffy towels as well. Staff always cheerful, smiling and attentive

Breakfast bacon chewy and always overdone. Room very small to call a double. Dining tables sticky finish. No dirty but plates, containers etc inc forearms, stuck to it. Something really gone wrong there as we heard other diners comment on every occasion

The breakfast is very good. Too bad I couldn't enjoy it everyday since I was leaving the hotel at 07:30 and the breakfast didn't open until 08:00. However the hotel staff still provided me with a short take away breakfast. The fact that there is a good restaurant (the pizzas were excellent and so was the fish and chips) and a bar on the hotel was very convenient for me. The staff was very nice, efficient and cheerful.

Ins spite of being thankful that there was a take away breakfast, I think it could be more substantial or a discount applied since the full breakfast wasn't consumed.

Excellent staff very attentive. Quiet location.

Only one double electrical point in the room, made it difficult if you wanted to have the TV on, make a cup of tea and charge a phone/dry your hair, room also overlooked rear of kitchen so a lot of what appeared to be black bags/rubbish on display. Also on the days we were there we were awoken at 5am by someone putting rubbish out/sorting through the rubbish? We were also unfortunate that during our stay the anvil was having some work done on the roof so we had scaffolding outside the window with workmen up and down from 8am, whilst I appreciate this was necessary it wasn't mentioned to us and given the choice I would have rather have had another room.

Beautiful thatched roof building. we arrived on Sunday and reported to the bar to advise that we had arrived and that we had a table booked as we were in Dorset from London to meet with family. We were given our room key and advised that the room would be ready from 3pm. The staff were all quite young and I have to say marvellous, nothing was too much trouble and they were all very polite and personable . It’s an Inn which sells food and drink with rooms above the bar. We were shown to our room a little after 3pm by a young lady, and she took us to the door rather than just direct us. The room was small but very bright and clean. The bedding was good quality and the towels were lovely, thick soft and white. you are asked to complete a form for your breakfast and leave it at the bar the evening before with your preferences and the time you would like to sit, some wouldn’t like this but we were ok. The breakfast was good quality and a good selection. The coffee was fresh in a cafetière and very nice. There is a seating area to the front of the Inn with a grass area and an under cover area that I believe has just been erected, although I felt it somewhat spoiled the view to the Inn. We booked a table for lunch for 8, and we were promptly served and the food was nice. we were in Pimpernel visiting family.

I like it very much, nothing not to like. The only thing is there is really nothing in the area except residents and a little too far to walk into Blandford Forum.

Really lovely staff at all times. Made us feel very welcome. Tasteful decor , serene bedroom. Clean bathroom with good hot water supply and shower. Really nice outdoor covered area with good quality and choice of food.

Breakfast was good but could have been improved with better quality bread for toast. And maybe switch to small dishes of jam/ marmalade and get rid of the plastic.
