The College and its charming porters. It was a very cold night, but the central heating could easily cope.
The hot shower for our rooms was rather intermittent, going from hot to cold, and back again, in a minute. There are traffic control cameras in the street (both sides with double yellow lines) outside the College, so one risks a fine, if one stops to drop off, or pick up, passengers and suit-cases. The car-park at West Grafton (a large Shopping centre) was closed on Friday. There were however still a few empty spaces, but not many, in East Grafton car-park. The cost of parking from 1pm till 8 am was nearly £35.

The rooms are located in Christ's College in the absolute heart of Cambridge. Extensive gardens with seats, peace and quiet although the bustling city is just over the wall. Breakfast was excellent with a full english breakfast, cheese and cold meats, croissants, toast all available. It should be noted (the college points this out in the booking) that most rooms are student rooms and don't have hotel facilities. Mine had a shared bathroom which was no problem at all. Although the college is quite extensive, there are key fob operated gates allowing 24 hour entry from all sides. The college staff was very helpful and persistent in solving problems. The college is surrounded by shops, restaurants and bars within easy walking distance. Bus stops are within a few yards and the main bus station is less than 200 yards away.
The main drawback (pointed out by the college during the booking) is that all access is by walking and climbing stairs. This would be a restriction for a person with limited mobility (I didn't enquire what solutions the college might offer for this.)

Every Porter at the lodge was delightful. Another person working on staircase 4 kindly took my bag to the room when I was struggling. We sat in the grounds having a very pleasant lunch. Delightful. We were pleasantly surprised by the size of the rooms
The member of staff at breakfast was surly bordering on rude. We chose not to go back there after the first morning. There are some very difficult to get to cobwebs up in the ceiling by the blinds in 4/36. Some happy spiders. We asked for quiet rooms but as we overlooked the road it was quite noisy. Not a problem with earplugs utilised after the first night.

The location was perfect, being right in the centre of town and close to supermarkets, restaurants, shopping and pubs. The student accomodation I stayed in was a modern ensuite room which was perfectly suitable, clean and additional tea/coffee supplies were provided daily. I also had access to a kitchen with toaster, microwave, fridge and 2 ring hob. There was no oven, but this wasn't a big deal for a short stay. The best thing was the special and historic nature of the buildings, it was a real privilege to be able to stay in such a building. It was also very secure with keycard access,

The room was small but perfect for an overnight stay and had everything I needed. The staff were friendly and professional and the information provided meant that I never felt lost on a large meandering complex. The breakfast provided was very good with the type of choice and surroundings you might expect from a good quality hotel. The college itself is in a perfect location for access to the centre of Cambridge and meant that nothing was too far away. What makes staying in one of Cambridge's historic colleges special though is knowing that some of history's great people have also trod these paths and corridors, in this case Charles Darwin.
The room was spartan, but functional. This is hardly a criticism considering this is a hall of residence for a college not a hotel room (and I've stayed in worse hotel rooms).

Liked location, ambience, gardens, character of the place (inc Flint & Baines). Porters were friendly and helpful. Decent breakfast. Good to have hot drinks making stuff in room and WiFi.
Didn't like that there weren't enough Sat breakfast staff so those who were there struggled to keep up despite valiant efforts. Much better on Sunday but it can still be improved. Invest in some tray trolleys so guests can clear their own and invest in better hot drink equipment eg 'burco' boiler, bulk coffee percolator (don't rely on single jug one to fill thermos jugs), milk dispensing machine.

The room was larger than expected and in an excellent location. The beds were very comfortable. Breakfast was also very good. The porters at the lodge were very friendly and helpful. A bonus was the buttery bar which served good priced drinks which we were not expecting.
The room was very hot so we had a window open but this meant that we could hear the noise from the street outside. We were in room 14 but our friends in room 15 weren’t able to open their window. Also it was .quite complicated accessing the Wi-Fi but we were only there for 1 night so we didn’t really need it.

Staying in my old college as a guest after thirty years, and finding that my room was in the same block where I lived as a fresher, was a very special experience for me. As ever, Christ's grounds provide a haven of seclusion but with Cambridge centre right on your doorstep. The gardens and courts of the college are filled with daffodils, tulips and irises. The porters offer a friendly welcome and are very knowledgeable about both town and gown should you need pointing in the right direction. Excellent value for money given the location.

The location could not have been better. Right in the heart of the city, an easy bus ride from the station. The porters were friendly and very helpful and the staff in the dining room and buttery were professional and efficient. The room was a standard students room, so small but clean and it had everything needed. Breakfast was well cooked and, for a buffet style breakfast, it had everything we could want.
Nothing the college can do about it, but my friend struggled with the amount of stairs. To be fair we were warned that there would be stairs, but we didn't expect quite so many.

The campus and grounds are absolutely stunning , steeped in history, and exactly like the pictures. It's an absolutely lovely place to stay. The rooms are what you would expect from a decent halls of residence in a good campus. Lots of storage space, nice and clean, great value. Great location and cheaper and more interesting than a regular hotel. Tea and coffee, towels provided, bathroom not in the room but several to choose from with bath and shower. Staff were lovely and let me leave my bag after check-out because I had a few hours to kill before my train. Good wifi. Quiet. Warm. Zero complaints, really good value.
No complaints, I got exactly what I expected and wanted.
