Great hotel, awesome central location, friendly staff, great team on reception (face to face).

Phones - Difficult to get through on the phone, tried calling a few times before arrival but no answer, and also internally, no answer when dialed zero on an occasion. Breakfast - terrible experience at breakfast 2 mornings in a row. They lost my order! Others arrived after me & got their food within 10 minutes. Both mornings I had to ask for my food 2-3 times and it took 25+ minutes both mornings. On the 2nd morning the waitress decided to argue with me about when I asked her to follow up a 2nd time after 20 minutes. Terrible attitude. Shame as the hotel staff generally were really nice otherwise, just the breakfast team lets the side down.

The best hotel stay I’ve ever had. We had the most wonderful stay and would highly recommend! The hotel is dreamy, with the most gorgeous Christmas decorations as you enter. The reception staff were lovely and really helpful. Nothing was too much trouble. We got to check in early as our room was ready. The room was stunning. Extremely comfy bed and amazing pillows, so a wonderful night’s sleep. Complimentary drinks in the mini bar. Tea and coffee selection was brilliant, coffee machine as well as cafetière. Bathroom had everything you needed and was spotlessly clean. The bar downstairs was fantastic, barman was knowledgeable, and the atmosphere was great. The breakfast was delicious, a wonderful selection. Fresh coffee, Continental, and variety of hot breakfast options too. The breakfast room was beautiful, with gentle classical music so it was a restful start to the day. The location is fantastic, just a couple of minutes walk to the shops and the centre of town. The car park is a good size, and we had no trouble finding a space. The parking rate was very reasonable too. The hotel has so much history, and it marries this well with contemporary facilities and luxurious furnishings. In all, this is a stunning hotel, with huge amounts of history, where every little detail has been thought of, and the service was impeccable. The staff were so friendly, extremely helpful, and we felt very looked after. We’ve stayed at a few places in Cheltenham before, but this was by far the best. We will very much be staying here again, and can’t wait to go back!

Staff were friendly and helpful and even when things didn't go exactly to plan they made a difference. Car park was easy to access and contained an electric car charging point, and even though one side failed to work the other was fine. Dining room is really good and the food too. Location can't be faulted. Will probably book again. Can't say fairer than that.

Radiator in the room had a faulty valve so didn't work but there was an electric heater we could plug in so that got us over the problem. Room was so large you needed good eye sight to see the TV. The bathroom on the other hand was surprisingly small but very well appointed, might just be inadequate to some.

The restaurant and food were excellent. The evening meal we had was delicious and the breakfasts were very good too. I must mention the restaurant staff, all were so professional and smart. Unfortunately one man’s name I did not get but he went above and beyond at breakfast. So impressed. Also Jack on reception treated us on our arrival like we were old friends and showed a lot of interest about our visit. Hotel location also fantastic.

Room was far too small and quite dark. Our view was overlooking scaffolding and other windows (appreciate that can’t be helped). I felt very chlostrophbic. One light (of two) in bathroom did not work and shower did not drain properly, therefore water was flooding all over the floor. As the hotel is very old this could not be helped but the squeaky floorboards in the room above were very annoying, particularly as the occupants upstairs seemed to be walking around all night! Two nights of no sleep. Having to pay £15.00 per night to park our car seemed a bit excessive, but there was lots of parking and it was fairly secure which was good.

Very comfortable and well-appointed large room, with the room staff doing a good job. The en-suite (especially the shower facilities) were excellent and well serviced. The view over the park was very appealing. I especially liked having the capitals (the tops) of the hotel's Corinthian columns outside my windows. These were also floodlit (from below) at night and looked superb. There was no light intrusion with the curtains closed. Good parking facilities.

Another chair or two would have been useful, together with a few more bathroom hooks/rails for towels etc. The air-con was a little noisy but not too intrusive. None of these comments, though, were enough to alter my ratings.

Room - well equipped but over a busy outside bar area so there was noise overspill Breakfast - nice to have food freshly cooked rather than hot buffet Location - great for getting round Cheltenham Car parking - sad that this is charged extra for guests - but no issue with finding a space as parking in Cheltenham appears to be an issue Staff - on arrival were absolutely excellent and went above and beyond to talk through possible route for walking round town. Staff met in corridors e.g. cleaning team were exceptionally polite and friendly

Even though there is secondary double glazing noise from outside does filter through. Insulation between floors is also an issue as every movement of folks in room above can be heard - especially when they get up in the night.

Friendly, professional staff. Smart contemporary decor which still referenced the hotel's historic past. Enjoyed the decor and artwork (though was a bit monochrome). Good quality fixtures, fittings, china, cutlery etc. Room comfortable and well planned. Central location was great. Car parking good.

To give context: my husband and I stayed one night to take part in the 50th anniversary celebration of my year group's starting our teacher training course at the erstwhile St Mary's College - now part of University of Gloucestershire. I'd expected breakfast and car parking to be included in the price I paid, but I should probably just have paid more attention to the small print. On the whole I thought it was fairly good value, though. The shower could have been cleaned more thoroughly. Thought the evening buffet served to our large party was of poor variety and value, but seems that was down to the choices made by our organiser.

Beautiful hotel with a lovely patio where drinks and food was served! Our room was spacious on the first floor with high ceilings and a comfortable bed. The frig was stocked and free! Bottled water, orange juice and cokes! The bathroom was nice but could use a grab bar in the shower for those of us with stability issues. When we arrived after 3pm the room was still not ready- they gave us 2 drinks for free on the patio as compensation. The staff was super kind and friendly. Across from gorgeous parks- I would recommend this hotel if you are headed to Cheltenham!

The room was a budget price and so at the back of the hotel overlooking the air conditioning etc. The original room 307 had a faulty air con unit which was a problem in the heat wave. George on reception arranged for us to move to room 328 which had functioning air con but scaffolding outside the window. Fortunately no work was going on. The restaurant decor and ambience was very stylish for breakfast.

The shower pressure was pretty poor but bearable. AT breakfast on Saturday morning the staff seemed a bit inexperienced and we almost had to ask to be served. It seems that the lads were new and a little nervous about approaching customers

Bathroom was very modern and clean. Bed was comfortable. Room service was good. Hotel is lovely. Staff went the extra mile and walked me to the bus station and carried my luggage after my taxi didn’t show up.

It was crazy hot and you can’t open the windows. And there was no top sheet on the bed, only a very heavy comforter. (Though they did give me a top sheet when I asked for one.) And there was very little furniture in the room. I was hoping for a desk but their version of a desk was a stool and a small round table. Beyond that there was only a small luggage rack. Another chair or table really would have been nice. And there was not an outlet in the bathroom that would take the travel adapter. So I couldn’t use my straightening iron in the bathroom…creating more need for another chair or table in the main room to set it on.
