I loved the aesthetic of my room. It was very idyllic, equipped with TV, Wifi, coffee, teas, and some Biscoff biscuits left on the side. I Loved the simple touches in the room that gave that extra clarity of being looked after and feeling welcomed. The room had ample closet space and the bathroom was clean and up to par.

I didn't like how steep the stairs were. It's difficult for a lady travelling by herself ;) carrying her luggage. The overall aesthetic of the interior is very luxurious. It would have been nice to have the option of an elevator to help offer assistance, for those who are elderly, with injuries or travelling without assistance.

Room 7 (which we booked) was beautifully presented and fully met our needs and expectations. It was very clean. The bed was extremely comfortable and had lovely throw cushions on the bed which gave a sense of style. Menzies Guest House was very quiet which made for a very peaceful, uninterrupted sleep. I highly recommend staying here for very comfortable accommodation at a very affordable price.

Maybe it was on the website but Room 7 was on the top floor, which was up numerous steps. My husband and I are in our 70s. Had we known how many steps there were to climb when we made our online booking, we either wouldn't have chosen the 55 GBP room or we would have chosen accommodation from another provider.

I would definitely recommend staying at Menzies! Me and my family of 3 stayed early summer at the guesthouse and we all agreed that it was a comfortable stay. The location is easy to get to from the centre of Edinburgh via bus, and a short 1 minute walk from the bus stop. We were greeted with smiles and the check in was easy. The room was big and spacious for us each to sleep on a twin bed each, but 3 single beds made it difficult to store our suitcases. Staff was very friendly and helped us out when we forgot the room key, and even contacted us on where to pick it up! Complimentary coffee and tea was a nice touch and much needed after a long day of sightseeing! The interior was nice and clean at all times and there was no noise between the rooms. I absolutely loved the rose garden in front of the house, they were all in full bloom - very gorgeous!

When I stayed at Menzies it was all quite lovely, despite one of the bedside lamps not working. The bathroom for our room was private to our room but we had to accesss it through the hallway, this was not a problem though as we felt like it gave an authentic feel to the house and its history - but it is nice to be aware of :) The only way of airing the room was to open the window, but it was still difficult to cool down as there were no ventilation other than that one window. I wish there would be a fan or mini air conditioner in the room as it became quite hot both day and night.

Everything! We had room with shared bathroom and tell the truth usually we don't book such a room. So we worried a bit how it's gonna be. But it looked like we were the only persons who used this toilet and shower. They were perfectly clean and just 1 step outside our room. The room was really cosy, and the double bed was really comfortable. May be we were lucky with the neigbours but it was really quite and nobody bothered us. Owner is really nice and lovely! We didn't have any problem to get to the guest house! Nice and quite area too!

We liked everything! But just some information about the shower. If you are a big person, you probably would find shower room quite tiny. For me and my daughter there was no problem at all! It was modern, clean and with very good water pressure in the shower.

Not expensive but i booked it last minute so not big expectations. The location is not bad, walking to castle is like half an hour but you can take the bus, it's like couple of minutes from bus station.

There was a noise from boiler and there was a smell in the room, but these both are bearable, slept well

i loved the Victorian ambiance and the very comfortable home feeling. the host was extremely accommodating. we had originally got a room with 3 beds (double and 2 twins) for my husband and I and our 2 kids. it was a bit smaller than expected but Menzie was nice enough to accommodate an upgraded room with a separate area for our 19 year old and a total now of 4 twins and one double with private bathroom. it was facing the street so having the big beautiful window open at night to hear the rain was just so awesome. we were walking distance from cafes stores and transportation and night food delivery was no problem. Menzie even stored out bags after check out so we didn’t have to drag out cases around town. super accommodating

everything was great and the price was definitely hard to beat for such nice lodging home

Decent room for the price. Nice hosts. Upgrade to room with ensuite.

No parking available despite stating free parking stated on booking.com website. On street paid parking available. Can hear other guests though to be expected in style of property and depends on other guests.

The owner was extremely responsive, very helpful, and patient when we arrived late. Parking was easy (the first day we were too late to park in the back yard, but street parking was available and free for those days, then the rest of the time it was safely in the back). Wifi was really good (make sure to connect to the correct one), bathroom was clean and water was hot! The beds were comfy and overall the room was quite cute. We were able to walk five mins to tons of good restaurants and the park, as well as bus connections to the city (though the walk to the city center is only 30 mins, we walked a few times when the weather was nice).

This wasn't a big deal to us as we had ear plugs and were probably the people up latest, but as it is an older building there is very little soundproofing so you can hear people in the hallway.

Great base for exploring Edinburgh. Rooms are very dated but clean and comfortable. Staff were friendly and helpful.

Tea/coffee tray could do with being updated. Kettle had to boil on the floor as that was the only place the plug reached a socket.

The host was very friendly and went out of the way to help us. He turned the heating on for us because my elderly parents were struggling with the cold, stored our luggage after check-out and even helped me get a cab. The room itself was well-equipped and the location was very nice with a lot of restaurants, cafes and green areas in the neighbourhood.

The room is a bit cramped with sleeping arrangements for four people
