The location was amazing. The experience of a canal boat was really fun. We enjoyed being central to everything in Edinburgh. The beds were really comfy. The boat stayed nicely warm. For the women, the flat iron and hair dryer was a great amenity.

It is hard on a boat to say you are going to have lots of space, so that needs to be expected. We did battle venting when we cooked so be prepared to open the hatch to clear out the kitchen. Everything was expected as we knew we were on a boat and if you go into the place with this in mind you will love it.

The boat was lovely and clean. The beds were really comfortable. The boat was in a good location, close walk to edinburgh city centre.

The cooker didn't work.keep tripping the electricity,no water on our last day, could not use the toilet or shower.only 4 forks and knives for a family of five.

The Boatel is quirky but brilliantly located and comfortable. Natasha was really helpful and accommodating. You have to get used to managing the things like the pump and toilet but it's easy enough. Kitchen was well set up and easy to use and beds were super comfortable. We were there in November so you needed to get the blower going initially for heat but once heating on it was snug.

Staying on a canal boat is definitely cosy, but there were four adults on the boat and we were fine. Best nights sleeps myself and my wife had in many years despite being in a small cabin. We think that was the gentle rocking of the boat wot did it. Was great for visiting the Fringe.

To future guests, just be aware that you are staying on a probably contained canal boat. Everything - light, water and waste is contained on board. We loved it and and even got to ride on it for quarter of a mile or so to take it down to the place where they empty the tanks. And the people who maintained the boats were immensely friendly.

We loved the unique experience and we were lucky to have one non-rainy evening where we could have some wine above deck. Check-in was flexible and use of the boat was explained quite clearly in terms of the pump systems, etc.

We'd requested a hamper for arrival, but it must have been missed in the communication. And I understand there was meant to be a key left for us so that we could use the laundry/shower facilities, but that wasn't shown to us when we checked in and we couldn't find it. Not a big deal as the shower in the boat worked just fine. But then the gate to the dock was locked and we had to hop the gate a couple of times becuase we didn't have the key. The only real bummer was that there wasn't a toaster! We love some toast and tea, but ended up trying to toast bread in a pan instead.

Breakfast was lovely Just what we needed And the complimentary fridge fill was above and beyond It was booked as a surprise for my niece visiting from Australia and my cousin They knew nothing about it til we got there and were so excited and thrilled about being on a houseboat 🤗🤗🤗 So spacious and comfortable although there were only three of us a family or larger group would still have had plenty of room and comfort Natalie the owner was very obliging re times and as I’d pre booked parking 1 minute away the whole organisation was amazing And we were only ten minutes walk to the centre at Grassmarket and the Castle !!!!! Fabulous all round and can’t say thank you enough for making our stay so memorable 👍👍👍👍👍

There was absolutely nothing that we didn’t like Everything was just perfect and I would recommend the Boatel to anyone with no hesitation

Staying on the houseboat was a unique experience. The host was very communicative and helpful. The location was very quiet and the boat did not move much at all so there was no seasickness from anyone onboard.

The rooms were only large enough for the bed with very little wiggle room. From the photos, I was expecting the rooms to be a bit larger and I was expecting three rooms, not two rooms and a pull out bed. That might be my fault for not reading the listing closely, but there are three boats and we were placed in the smallest one.

Lovely, cosy stay! The children loved staying on a boat, as did we! Natalie was really helpful upon arrival, she showed us around and left her number if we needed anything throughout our stay. The boat was clean and warm. It is a great size and was very comfortable for a family of 4, it could easily accommodate a couple more adults or children. Great location, within easy walking distance of Princes Street, Edinburgh Castle and The Old Town! Highly recommend, we would love to stay again! We were a little worry about the temperature prior to arrival as temperatures had dropped and the canal was frozen! But we can honestly say we were lovely and warm, the boat was very well heated. For a unique stay in Edinburgh, do not hesitate to book!

Fabulous location, well equipped and clean! Lovely host. Comfortable beds & a good space.

Quite a few issues with the house boat which was unfortunate, toilet not flushing, shower just a dribble & grill/oven wouldn’t stay on by itself. Toilet did get fixed quickly. Very loud sounds going off from the tank through the night even when the water was not in use which wakes you up. Think they will be resolved for future guests.

The location is great. It is a short walk away from Edinburgh Centre; including Edinburgh Castle and Old Town. There are plenty of good restaurants close by. The boatel sleeps 6 and I think additional cots etc. can be asked for on request. It has a good kitchen, decent size living space and very comfortable beds. There was a Tesco convenience store 2 mins walk away.

It only had standard TV channels, no Sky etc. or Netflix.
