I love this place! The staff are superb, from the lovely friendly cleaner to Paco the Hotel Manager, they all do an excellent job to make your stay as good as possible. The place is in the most beautiful location, and yes, it is not luxe - which means I can afford to stay here whilst doing floristry courses at the British Academy of Floral Art, just up the road. Every time I come here it feels welcoming and comforting.

The price does reflect that this isn't a high-luxe hotel. So please be aware of that and appreciate what it is! They work extremely hard to ensure everything is clean, neat and comfortable.

Stayed at this hotel for one night before continuing on to Cornwall. It's set in beautiful countryside with fabulous views. The hotel is nice and clean, and our bedroom was very spacious with a lovely comfortable bed. The bathroom is all white marble and very modern. A real pleasure too use. Our evening meal was very nice, breakfast was excellent. All the staff were very helpful and friendly. I would use this hotel again for one or two nights.

The only downside was a guest with two dogs who allowed them to jump up and lie on the velour covered seating leaving dog hair all over the furniture. The owner should know better. Didn't spoil our stay though, just found it annoying.

The staff are all very helpful and friendly. Breakfast was extensive. The hotel has a pleasant bar, lounge rooms and restaurant. The setting and the views are great.

Nothing.

The property is set in beautiful grounds in deep countryside. There are tables, benches and chairs on a beautifully kept lawn with herbaceous borders and a terrace outside the bar. Drinks and meals were available at almost any time. The room was a good size with excellent facilities. For the most part staff were attentive and friendly.

Finding the hotel by car is difficult as the postcode takes one to the rear entrance, suitable only for off-reading vehicles. More could be done on the booking form to explain. The narrow winding roads are not for the faint hearted. We had visited the property some years ago and what tempted us back was the wonderful restaurant/breakfast. This visit was a great disappointment in that department. One night my wife ordered the salmon salad (£20) and received a good sized hot salmon fillet but on just a bed of leaves, nothing else at all. The food was well cooked but very pricey for what one got. The continental breakfast at £9.95 had nothing special to offer and the day I ordered toast only I was charged the £13.95 price of a full cooked breakfast. Disappointing.

Beautiful location and grounds. Friendly staff. Lovely chips served in the bar. Lovely spacious room and bathroom. Despite the flaws mentioned above it was clear that the staff had tried to think of everything e.g. Two fans in the room. Generous supply of tea, coffee, milk, shampoo and shower gel. We are very likely to stay again.

Very hot in bedroom and first floor corridor (although cool downstairs) but they did provide two fans in the room. Whilst moving the bedside table in order to plug the beside light in I noticed it was quite dusty behind it (otherwise very clean). There was a very loud extractor fan outside our room (but it did switch off about 10pm and was barely audible with the window shut (it was too hot in the room so we needed the window open))

The location, the manor house, the gardens, the Mediterranean Courtyard, the food and the service were all extraordinary. The room cleanliness was faultless. The view from our room was picture-perfect: the manicured gardens and the horses adding to its natural beauty. The atmosphere was relaxed and welcoming. The lady who manned reception, the bar and the restaurant at the same time was absolutely delightful. The vegetarian menu offered a lovely choice: we had the best veggie sausages, mash, caramelised onions and pea shoots we've ever tasted. We did not want to leave. A big well done and a Thank you to the Lord Haldon Hotel.

Just a suggestion, not a dislike, (we liked everything): we could have done with bigger hooks in the bathroom..

Loved our room, although the bathroom was in need of a make over, turn cold water tap on ,it’s a while before anything happens, but did eventually,a few cobwebs, must admit dislike making them homeless. Bed very comfortable and nice white sheets, curtains and blinds could be be

The price of drinks, how do you justify £6:85 for a pint ,? And £12 for small bottle of Prosecco, I was completely flabbergasted, most expensive ,unbelievable Must say a word about, this wonderful young girl, woman, who on the Friday night, when we arrived, was so welcoming, this young lady, was a godsend,a big asset to the hotel, just something about her,was so charming, friendly and could not do enough for us,please appreciate her,our stay would not have been the same without her,Maddie is her name, look after her

A nice country hotel with some history behind it's updated structure, set in a lovely location with a park-like garden ideal for our two dogs. Some may find the route there from the A30 a little testing, but what do you expect? These are typical Devonshire country lanes that lead you to a place that is tranquil and welcoming in all senses. Plenty of parking space, friendly staff, clean well appointed rooms, good food. All at a very modest base price with options for paying extra for evening meals and breakfast if required.

I realise that travelling with two well behaved non barking dogs is not everyone's forte, and although no problem and well received, I think that charging £30 (£15 X2) daily is a little salty. I am sure they don't cause any inconvenience to staff or damage anything like this amount represents. A more modest charge would be a reasonable compromise.

We were hesitant about it being a best western chain, but we were amazed how much they've kept true to the old property and were proud of the history of the building. The surrounding areas made the property so peaceful, and spent the evening walking around the gardens. The food was excellent, as we had both dinner and breakfast here. We had a view of the courtyard which was nice as well.

The doors on the property slam against the doorframe, so anytime someone left their room we could hear it at night. The building isn't very soundproof and the bathrooms were average.

Great location with a quiet room and a nice view over the fields. Good selection to choose from of freshly cooked food - particularly enjoyed the breakfast. All staff very helpful and friendly during our stay.

Although a nice room with a view it was a little outdated decoration wise. No air con so a bit warm at night even with the window wide open.
