My partner and I were walking the Thames Path and booked the Eagle Tavern as a stop over, we were not planning on having dinner but the menu looked great so we decided to eat in and we were not disappointed. The food was exceptional, the customer service was spot on, run by a small team and the Eagle Tavern is their passion. Clean rooms, comfortable beds, my only bug bear was that check in was only at 5pm after a long hard day of walking we had to taxi to a pub and wait for an hour and half before we could check in. Other than that 5 stars all round.

The staff were exceptional. Friendly, professional and approachable. The food was, as many others have said, just wonderful. The dining room, although full had a pleasant buzz, while the waiting staff were very efficient. The room was spotless and the bed comfortable. The manager found us a table at short notice and was very helpful. Make sure you book a table at the same time as you book a room. It is too far to walk to other restaurants and anyway, why would you want to, given the standard of the cuisine.
The shower in our room. It was temperamental and we couldn't adjust it. Again, the manager was concerned and gave a reasonable explanation. You rarely get that attention to detail.

The Eagle is in the middle of the tiny village of Little Coxwell. It's some way away from the A420 so it's quiet and peaceful. My room was clean, tidy and comfortable but the decor could have been a little more modern. Dinner was a delight. A small menu with everything freshly prepared with skill. Breakfast was just as good, I just wish I could have more time to take full advantage. The sourdough toast was a deliciously pleasant change to the usual.
A more comprehensive wine list would be a benefit.

Lovely rooms and friendly staff. The restaurant was excellent.
I appreciated the restaurant making something for me off-menu that was vegan, but as a bit of constructive feedback, I’d suggest that in 2023 they should probably have a vegan option on the menu, or at a minimum when a customer enquiries whether there are vegan options, don’t start by saying ‘no’, which is what happened. A more customer service-centred approach would be to say ‘of course, let me see what the chef can do’. But overall we had a lovely stay.

Cosy and quiet accommodation, excellent food, we had breakfast and an evening meal. Staff were good at their jobs, friendly and hospitable without being intrusive. There is no doubt this is a value for money stay and is close to the local Market Town of Faringdon where accommodation is much more pricey. Would recommend to family and friend plus any prospective guests.
Nothing was a deal breaker. The odd thing could be improved but overall all was pretty good and value for money. Struggling to complain!!

Very quiet, picturesque village. Restaurant appeared to be very good but I didn't eat as I was meeting friends elsewhere. If I didn't have other plans, I definitely would have stayed in the bar and restaurant for some food and drinks. The staff very helpful and friendly.
The shower head was mounted very low down making it a little awkward for someone tall. Bedroom could do with a black out blind as the curtains were very thin so I was woken up very early by the bright sunlight.

Breakfasts (both continental and full English) were excellent. The restaurant even made its own bread! Our room, as requested, was in a quiet corner of the building, away from the road. The bed and all facilities were very clean and comfortable.
On arrival, slightly before our appointed time, we found the front door locked and there were no instructions re. access. We found the back entrance which was open but, once inside, still no-one and no names on closed doors. I explored further and was met by the manager (host?) who actually scolded me for having gone upstairs. I explained who I was and that I had a reservation but no apology was made for the misunderstanding. The only other negative was the unpleasantly cool temperature of the breakfast room.

Excellent breakfast. The location of the Eagle Tavern was ideal for walking and exploring the surrounding countryside of the Vale of the White Horse. The staff were very helpful and seeking to make our stay as comfortable as possible.
Nothing really. Maybe bottled water in the room ? Also, maybe an information sheet about the locality - footpaths, the history of the White Horse, origins of the Eagle Tavern etc....

The staff were incredibly friendly and worked really hard. This is a small hotel and seems to be run entirely by three people, but they worked so hard to make us welcome! It was very nice hanging out in the bar in the evening. This is what I remember village pubs being like when I was a teenager (which was quite a long time ago!) It felt comfortable, welcoming, friendly and safe. The location was very pretty. We were there because our daughter lives nearby, but we have tried several hotels in the area and for "pretty Cotswold atmosphere" this one won hands down.
The showers were a little temperamental. One of my sons had to use the shower in our room because his girlfriend had declared theirs to be "cold and dribbly" - but if you aren't staying long country bathrooms are part of the adventure (and these country bathrooms were very clean.

Lovely location, pretty restaurant and bar area. Quiet and quaint. Authentic rooms, not plush but homely. Clean and white cotton linen. Staff on duty, excellent. Breakfast, vegetarian cooked, was really delicious, hot, plenty, big portions, and outstanding value for money. Great coffee and orange juice. Well presented.
One of the rooms needed the carpet vacuuming, so we did that, no big deal really an oversight.
