Location, atmosphere, staff. Kat checked us in and out she was excellent as were the rest of the staff we encountered. Location was great, just around the corner from the market and the cathedral, St Wilfred's procession went right by the hotel. Nice Cask Ales on offer. Breakfast was excellent. We ate dinner there once and it was excellent too. The chicken pie was very good. Keys provided so we could stay out late.
Didn't know ahead of time that parking was available. We parked in the lot behind sainsbury, close to the hotel and we had no bother. Really can't think of anything we didn't like. Should know there's no elevator (didn't expect one) but you'll have to carry your bags up the stairs. Not a big deal.

Location was great. Evening g meal was excellent
Room Mattress really.soft and uncomfortable Shower very poor drainage and mouldy Breakfast Although.it was delicious, the wait was ridiculous. Waited 45 minutes.from arriving to eating food.. There was only.at least 6 couples.eating and the lady serving us had no sense of urgency in fact she was chatting with.people.at.the bar and we had to wait 15 mins at the table before she even acknowledged.us and then asked what drinks we wanted. It was.10 mins .after.that.before she took our breakfast.order and failed.to.ask if we.wanted.toast although.she asked all.the other.guests if they wanted.toast. when I informed.after 30 mins that we had an appointment elsewhere she just ignored us Not.the best service.for breakfast even though.the place.was.not busy

Staff brilliant. Breakfast choice was vast and of excellent quality and quantity, We ate at there. One of us has a food allergy, the kitchen staff adapted meals so that a tasty meal was eaten. Car parking is directly behind the hotel which is ideal. Accommodation is central and bus stops to York, Harrogate etc. are a few minutes walk away. We had a superior room which was worth the extra money for the extra space and large bathroom.
There were a few issues with cleaning the room at first. The cleaner was on holiday and the relief had forgotten a few things. The hotel staff immediately put things right and apologised. When the cleaner returned she was extremally apologetic and could not do enough for us. We don't feel this spoilt our stay as the staff rectified problems straight away.

Friendly staff. Introduced me to beer I did not know. Speedy breakfast.
Better advance notice about arriving with a car, since there is no parking nearby (and the street was under repair). I had to ring to get advice for which reception didn't seem prepared. The car park solution suggested worked but might have included: a postcode to tap into Waze etc advice to bring coins for parking charges and on next morning cover directions on how to lug a case from carpark to hotel.

The room was spotless, and plenty big enough with plenty of tea and coffee available in the room. The beer prices are a little high but you expect that as it is a hotel. Staff were superb and all very pleasant. Breakfast was to die for and plentiful with no request too much trouble. I would highly recommend that this is the place to stay when visiting Ripon.
Bed was too soft for my liking but my Wife loved it. :-) As I said before the beer price was hotel prices, not ridiculous just a little high. Saying that we really enjoyed our stay.

Breakfast. Plenty to eat. Had a full English. Sausages poor, streaky bacon too streaky and not crisp enough. Back bacon is better. Poached eggs really nice. Well done. . Tomatoes nice. Mushroom ok. Beans ok.Toast nice. Room was nice overlooking Main Street. Comfortable bed. Nice soft fluffy towels. All staff were excellent. Polite and helpful.
Sausages, bacon. Didn’t know there was parking facilities until we were going home. Had a look where they were and there isn’t a great deal of space.

Everything,it was so central and parking at the rear was a bonus. The room we had was so quiet and a very comfy bed.The food was really good and the breakfast was superb, also the service was very good ,a special mention to Amelia who worked her socks off and really looked after us.Not forgetting Beth who carried my case up stairs for me a thank you to the both of them. The pub is very clean and welcoming, definitely stay in the Royal Oak again.
Nothing to dislike about it

Excellent old fashion building, with squeaky floor boards and bags of character. Breakfast was superb and the pub area is how a pub should be. Bedroom very comfortable and spotless. I left my electric toothbrush behind when I checked out. I phoned them and they said not to worry they would post it on to me that day. Excellent service. Would highly recommend this venue.
Hope setback, which they can do nothing about ,is there are a number of states to get to the rooms.

Stayed here for a night to attend a wedding at Grantley Hall. We arrived before check-in time but were allowed to check into our room early and get changed. There is parking just down the street in a private car park, the spaces are tight but it's safe and secure. Breakfast was good, they made the veggie breakfast into a vegan breakfast for me - but it should have come with beans and toast I think! Room was nice, shower was massive! Bed was comfortable. Would recommend and would stay here again.

This is a great location just off the Market Square. Our room was quite compact but fine for an overnight stay (I think we'd find it too cramped for an extended visit however). Although the building is old and a bit creaky, as well as being in a central location, we had a good night's sleep in the comfortable bed. And breakfast the next morning was excellent, with lots of choice, well-prepared and in generous portions! Staff were friendly too. We would come again although only for an overnight stop such as this was.
We couldn't manage to get their free wifi to work but luckily were able to access a public Yorkshire network. While we appreciated parking being available in a yard behind the pub, the space was very tight to access and our car was filthy the next morning having been under trees where lots of birds must roost - not the pub's fault, just a warning to others. I think if we stay again we would park in the Market Square, especially as we were a little surprised to be charged £5 for the pub's parking place. It wasn't a problem for us but the room was up two steep flights of stairs so anyone with mobility problems or unable to carry their luggage up will struggle here.
