We stayed at The George Hotel in Hayfield for two nights last week whilst visiting to attend my uncle's funeral. Upon arrival, we were greeted by Sara who was so kind, friendly and welcoming. Our room was bright and spacious, with a lovely shower! Nothing was too much trouble during our stay. Fantastic hearty breakfast served by a lovely gentleman (didn't get his name) and we had a lovely meal and drinks in the bar in the evening, our waiter and bar man were lovely lads who were so warm and friendly. Sara and team, thank you so much for everything, you made a difficult time a little less stressful with your kindness. We will be back xx

Doug cooked a fantastic cooked breakfast every morning for us always hot and freshly cooked. We ate there twice in the evening and all was good even though the pub was very busy. Thanks to Ben mainly for the smooth running of the place. Also have to mention Sara who worked very hard and made sure we had what we needed and did it with a smile as did all the staff. This is clearly an ongoing effort by all to make this pub work as it's newly taken over, all I can say is give it a go you won't be disappointed. Room was lovely (No 7)

Nothing really everyone tried really hard to accommodate everyone which is not an easy thing to do.

I was with a friend for a weekend to get some walks around Kinder Scout. We stayed in separate double rooms, and my room (number six) was incredibly sweet, cute and full of character! During the day could be noisy as a street and garden beer are under a window. The bathroom was clean, and the bed was comfortable with fluffy pillows and a duvet. We needed to book a slot for breakfast a day before. The lady asked us what do we want, and I asked her for a soft version (fresh ortho braces) - not a problem! The morning meal was huge and full of little necessary condiments. Also, the coffee was surprisingly tasty! After the walk, we went downstairs to the restaurant and went for a soup of the day and lasagne verdi (for me, a soft option). In my opinion, portions were too little related to the price. The pub is dog friendly, so it was nice to see the wet boops. Car park at the rear. The hotel is close to Snake Path, which can easily lead to the Kinder Low and go down via Edale Cross. It was technically a bit difficult in the end, but we agreed this route was the best option considering the views. It took us around 7 hours, but we lost tracks a few times. Definitely recommend this hotel as a base for Kinder Low & Kinder Scout (and maybe Mam Tor) walks. And huge kudos to the extremely friendly lady who served us breakfast while we stayed! Thank you!

In my opinion, portions were too little related to the price.

Wonderful, quirky place, in a beautiful village. Lovely room, spacious, light, well decorated. Comfy bed and pillows. Big soft towels. Super shower in bathroom, easy to walk into, no climbing into slippery baths. Delicious evening meal with good choices, lovely village pub atmosphere. Great parking at rear, very easy to access. Terrific friendly and helpful young staff, particularly Ben who welcomed us, showed us to our room and even carried our case up for us. He was so organised, running the place like clockwork, but had a very cheerful cheeky way about him that made our last evening in England very pleasant. Great breakfast next morning too. Very handy for Manchester airport, but in the beautiful Peak District. Would definitely stay again and recommend this to everyone.

Nothing.

Friendly welcome on arrival from Ben after our long drive. Room & en suite were good - bed was comfortable. Cooked breakfast was freshly prepared & good variety of reasonably options on lunch & evening menus. Excellent location for Kinder Scout. Plenty of free onsite parking for residents. The building is full of nooks & crannies and has plenty of interesting features including a large cooking range and unique stained glass windows featuring various King Georges. Nice beer garden at rear of pub with a small beck running through it.

Although well decorated, the basin in en-suite was a bit too small. This was our 4th b&b during a 12 day holiday in similarly priced accommodation so the following comments are after comparison. Timings on breakfast were a bit rigid (7.30 -8.30 only). Would have preferred to see some healthier options for cereals and an alternative to white bread. Likewise, would have welcomed the choice of black pudding instead of hash browns and to be asked how we would like our eggs cooked (they were always fried).

Breakfast was lovely. Chef very pleasant. The lad on the bar was lovely. Not the hotels fault that the village is closed Monday & Tuesday. Thank you to the staff.

Drinks very expensive. Not much to do in the village - most pubs & shops closed. Smoking area - not clear where you could or couldn't smoke. Would be nice to have an area where you can just sit, enjoy a drink & a cigarette, without having to keep going out to front of pub- which is not particularly inviting. Only one table and a couple of chairs outside, down below ground level.

From when we arrived we felt very welcome. The landlord greeted us and even though we were early he was happy for us to have our room. The room was clean and tidy and well kept. The staff were all so friendly. The young barman was informative and made sure we were happy, including our dog. The bar stocks real ales and the Pinot was lovely. We had an evening meal there one night and it was tasty and not bad prices. The lady who cleaned the rooms was very chatty and when we saw her outside our room when she was cleaning the others she made sure we had enough tea/coffee/biscuits and towels. Breakfast was nice and simple (full English) and freshly cooked. The rooms were very warm and cosy and we could get Wi-Fi in the room too. Lots of walks around the area, we walked from Hayfield to New Mills which was about 2.5miles each way and a nice walk. Found a pub at the other end too :). We would definitely stay at The George Hotel again.

There was no shower gel/shampoo in the room which is unusual but luckily we had taken our own. The hand soap was almost empty but I am sure if we had asked they would have swapped it. Our room wasn’t touched at all while we were there which I think is from Covid times but I do feel that now things are back to normal rooms should be tidied, bins emptied, towels replaced if necessary. Wouldn’t stop us from going again though as the place was so welcoming.

The property is currently undergoing renovation so the facilities are a little tempered BUT Sara (who was left to run the place seemingly alone) was utterly amazing and dealt with everything brilliantly. The breakfast was lovely and cooked really nicely.

The room we initially were allocated (6) was very tired and a little unclean. Shower was mouldy (ceiling) and carpet had dog hairs. It is a dog friendly hotel so we expected some hairs but the edges of the carpets we in need of deport cleaning.

The whole property was very unique and picturesque, was old and cute and the perfect getaway for my partners birthday, the manager who I believe was new was one of the loveliest and warming people I’ve met and herself and the rest of the staff made our stay amazing, only wish we could of stayed longer! the staff were very helpful on pointing out good locations to see in the area and a very tasty Italian within 1 minute walking distance, the locals very friendly and chatty, will be coming back again soon, also the breakfast was delicious! big props to the manager very kind soul who also upgraded our room as our booked room needed some work doing to it, loved my stay at the George hotel, full marks all round!

nothing !

Our room was clean and comfortable, with ensuite shower and bath. Tea / coffee making facilities were provided. Full English breakfast was included, with cereals, toast etc. Good value for money. There is a cosy bar area with a good selection of drinks, plus a beer garden.

The room was a little dated, but we believe that the new owners will be working through the hotel to update the facilities. However we were aware that was the case before we booked.
