This is just what a country pub should be. The landlord, Mark Liddle, has done wonders in reviving its place in the community, while also making it a welcoming venue for visitors. It has all the right ingredients: good beer, an outstanding pub-food menu using locally-sourced ingredients, log fires, and a friendly ambience. Mark himself is an excellent cook and his cottage pie is something to go out of your way for! At a time when too many pubs are closing, the Lantern Pike has discovered a sure-fire formula for success.

Comfy..Best view from room window, excellent host..nothing too much trouble for Mark. Breakfast exactly as we wanted..bacon georgous..all food piping hot and loads of it. Beer garden was quaint and so pretty. Evening meal was tasty..pub so rustic..great pics..fresh flowers were a nice touch..serving window to beer garden from bar was cute.
Road out front traffic quite speedy so if stayed in front could maybe be noisy but as we stayed in back it was quiet and perfect..rooms could be called a little dated although spotless and comfy..now about to be refurbished so we will be back to stay again and see the improvements..

The landlord couldn't do enough for us, we were made very welcome by everyone and were included in community events at the pub and made some lovely new friends. The staff are very friendly and helpful. The food is very good, enjoyed every meal we had there. The walks are amazing, starting straight from the pub.
The pub is going through quite a bit of renovation and what had been done is very good. Our room hadn't had the refurbishment so was a bit dated but it was still clean and fresh. Looking forward to going again when all the work is completed.

Marc is a very kind, accommodating host. He had gluten free bread, soy milk and vegetarian sausage for us on our arrival and even made gluten free blueberry pancakes on our last morning. Really a ray of sunshine and seems to really care about his work and the inn he is running. He was flexible with our checkout time, which was much appreciated as our flight home was quite late in the evening. Also, he went above and beyond giving us a ride when one of our party had a bit of a train emergency when we left. Very sweet person running a charming old inn in Little Hayfield.

Mark and staff were super friendly. Room was warm, clean and comfortable. Nice friendly and relaxing stay after a good days walk around Jacobs Ladder. We woke up to a heavy snowfall and van was ark at side of property on a slight hill. Had to dig out and crawl up hill but was given boost from Mark and one of the locals who dragged us out the last few meters. Nice little adventure and can’t thank all enough for both their hospitality and kind efforts to help.
Was only there for one night, wish it was more!😁👍🏻

Mark the owner/manager couldn't do enough for us. His hospitality was spot on. All his staff were smiley and efficient, which made our stay more homely. The food was excellent, the bar was cosy and traditional. Everything , including our room was, in our opinion was an exceptional stay. Well worth the cost for a clean, comfy, well equipped room with everything you could ask for. Including luxury bath sheets!

Quaint little Pub with rooms. We Loved The Lantern Pike and the new owner (Mark) makes this place special. Very welcoming and always smiling. Superb Host. He has great vision and enthusiasm for the forthcoming upgrade/refurb of the rooms, property and carparking. Interesting, friendly and comical, this seems to have rubbed off on the 'few' staff Mark has left. Some left his employ because they couldn't hack his high standards. It's all about standards and training. The Lantern Pike will do very well under Mark and the team and we will definitely stay again. We had dinner and breakfast, all cooked to order and fresh produce used. All cooked perfectly by Mark. It's very early days for this new owner but you can already feel that it's going to be the place to be in Hayfield. Thank you Mark. J n B
I wish that I had thought up the short sentence that summed up our stay.................................Haha. Arrived as Strangers, Departed as Friends

Lovely old pub and a friendly welcome. It's currently undergoing refurbishment so the bathroom, whilst having great potential, wasn't quite up to scratch. Bed was comfy and tea making facilities were fine. We ate in the pub that evening and the food was lovely.
I know it's early days for the owner, and he has great plans. However I do think a breakfast menu is needed. The waitress was lovely and polite, however when we were asked what we wanted everyone had to ask what was available. A breakfast self service area with a starter choice would be great as everyone had to sit and wait without food while the cooked breakfast was being prepared. It wasn't clear if 2 courses eg cereal followed my a main breakfast was available. The breakfast itself was fine when it arrived. The WiFi didn't connect in the bedroom so something to bear in mind if travelling for work. Teething problems I'm sure and I wish the new owner all the very best in his new venture.

Friendly, helpful staff. Super beer garden with views. Good value meals in the evening and at breakfast, and large portion sizes. Secure key access to both upper floor and bedroom. Soft white towels.
One room had no light bulb in one overhead light, no tv remote and no complimentary shampoo, shower gel. Some noise from road at front of pub. If car spaces at pub taken one has to park across the road on a safe 'pull in'. These aren't major issues and the value for money counteracts these little niggles.
