Lovely Lois is a totally understanding human being and a total pleasure to meet, I say this as I unwittingly left a cool bag with ice on one of the chairs in the room ( we had a long day!!) the ice obviously melted over night!! I felt awful, I explained to Lois what had happened, but the lovely Lois put me at ease straight away and reassured me it was alright and not to worry, for this, I thanked her. I had replaced the chair with one in the entrance, which was the same style chair and I put the wet chair in the sun in the yard. The room was extremely clean, well thought out and lovely and warm, no noise whatsoever which was perfect for a good nights sleep. I would love to come back and stay on a night the restaurant was open as the menu sounded delicious. Thank you for a lovely stay xx

The Durham Ox is a lovely place, with very nice interiors, really clean, with some really nice touches like proper milk. The rooms are spacious. It's worth booking the restaurant if you're staying, because the food is really very good too. The staff were really attentive and helpful. The price represented good value for money. Beds very comfy. We had 2 rooms and this was the feedback for both beds. Although they don't do breakfast there were recommendations

Not really something that we didn't like, but more of a tip. Although the room had a bit of a chill, we were in a bit of a rush to get to a wedding and didn't think to try the heating. By the time we went back, it was really late, so didn't want to contact the owners. The radiators didn't seem to be on. The covers kept us warm though. Might be worth a check if you go out, as I'm sure they would have sorted it if they'd have been aware.

What a fabulous little hotel, quiet and quaint. The staff were amazing, friendly, helpful, professional and knew their job. The rooms were lovely, everything that you needed, tea, coffee etc The food is gorgeous, a good range of options. The menu doesn't scare you when you open it. We will definitely go back again.

The bathroom was grubby, hair & dirt in the bath black mould around the taps and shower, limescale build up, pink scum in grouting, tiled wall by the toilet had dirty marks, skirting boards in the bathroom were dirty as was the window sill. I have to say this is constructive criticism, little details that have been overlooked. It would not stop us going back

Friendly welcome. The location was perfect for exploring the town and the hotel's restaurant was excellent as was the self service breakfast option. We wished we'd booked the restaurant for both nights of our stay as eating options in town appear to be limited. That said there's a really good Thai about 100 metres away.

Water pressure was a bit on the low side which meant that a bath took a while to run. The town centre has seen better days but evidence of a more prosperous pass is clear. There are also some interesting trips out of town.

Breakfast was well laid out with a variety of continental choices that could be selected and taken to your room to eat. Unfortunately there was very little available if following a low carb diet, the ham that was present on the evening before had all been taken by 8am and was not replaced leaving only individual portions of cheddar. However, the choices of breakfast bars and flapjacks was superb, especially if you needed a quick breakfast on the run. The room was beautifully decorated with a very comfortable bed and spotlessly clean. There was a little noise from the bar below but not enough to disturb and definitely no more than you would expect from a room above a buy pub/restaurant. On arrival entry to the rooms is via an independent entrance so you don't have to go through the bar, which is a plus when you have bags and a busy pub. Even with all these excellent qualities, the best thing about The Durham Ox was the staff, they were all very friendly and helpful and even managed to juggle things around to accommodate us in the excellent restaurant for a meal on a busy Saturday night after a last minute change of plans.

The lighting in our room was not good. The main lighting came from spot lights along one wall with additional bedside lights. This left one area of the L shaped room very dark. There was a lamp in this area but it had to be removed after my daughter received an electric shock when trying to switch it on, hopefully this has been replaced and gone some way to improve the situation. I have to say though that when we mentioned the incident to staff they reacted immediately and with great concern.

Warm welcome, good clean comfortable room with a very large bathroom. Excellent food on the one night we dined in.

Breakfast included was headlined but we were not informed that this was not available u til 24 hours before arrival. It seems strange that a provider of an extensive A' la Carte menu cannot pro ide a simple Continental Breakfast. We were given a discount on the final bill however....but we were inconvenienced.

Clean, comfortable and convenient. Bathroom compact, but clean and adequate for a short stay. Generous supply of bottled water and very friendly and helpful staff. Excellent dinners served in the pub. Very good value for money. Would stay again.

Small bathroom could become an issue if staying longer than a few days. Unfortunately there was no breakfast available in-house. Not a real issue for us, but some may be put off. Limited parking.

A little strange having to serve myself breakfast and eat in my room. There was a reasonable selection of cereals and fresh fruit. Only white bread for toast which I don't normally eat. The milk in the fridge was just on the turn, it would not have lasted another day, so I am hoping the bottle was changed. All in all, adequate and ok for the one night's stay.

The central heating was not on, and the room was cold. I hoped it would come on in the morning but no, so it was unpleasant getting out of the shower.

Great location in town, evening meal was lovely and the staff were very friendly, the pub had a lovely warm atmosphere too.

The breakfast was a continental style breakfast that is set out in the upstairs landing, but we found that when we went to get some food at about 8.30am there was very little left, most likely because other guests has taken what was there. We found the mattress to be very soft which did not suit us, but otherwise the room was great.
