Risley Hall is an old listed building. Sure, there are some areas that need a touch of redecoration but covid lockdowns have made finances very tight. Risley will recover given time. It's in a great location between Derby and Nottingham near the M1. The room is fantastic - we choose a family room to get 2 rooms and separate bathroom & walk-in shower. We went last year, and this year. Michael (catering) remembered us from last year. We will go again next year. Good furniture (old not modern). Interesting history - see the large book in the reception area.

Sorry. but I'm not going to nit-pick over a few bits of 'tired' decoration

The room was spacious and clean. I liked the fact that we could sleep with a window open at night as there was a security catch on it in the open position. The shower had a catch-all screen so that the floor didn't get wet and there was no worry about that. The water pressure in both the shower and bath/shower was good and the temperature was right. I liked the design of the bedside lamps.

We found that the TV had not been tuned in. My husband had been intending to watch a programme. It was too late to do anything about it that evening. When my husband went to reception to report the fault, he was informed that there had been a severe storm the night before and that none of the TVs were working because of that and that they would all need to be reset. It would have been better if he would have been informed about that on arrival. Also, towels were nor replaced with clean ones. There had been a notice about the fact that we needed to contact reception if we needed anything like that; post Covid it was not automatic. We did not see the notice. Though did get clean towels on request.

I really enjoyed staying here with my family. before our stay, I was a little concerned with the reviews, but I needn’t have been. The staff were beyond friendly and helpful on check in. The reception and kitchen staff even spoiled my son as he was 16 today. The room was clean and modern (we were in the newer section, maybe that helps) with fresh crisp sheets. we were even upgraded to a room more suitable with double and 2 singles rather than relying on a sofa bed. There was plenty of free parking on site and the wifi was good. It was really hot and the room had a portable fan which was fantastic, 2 of them for our 2 rooms would have been better, but we managed until it cooled down in the early hours of the morning. the breakfast was nice and with a selection of hot cooked items of sausage, bacon, mushroom, hash browns, beans and scrambled eggs (or have poached/fried cooked on request). it was a busy morning, perhaps that helped with the continued replenishment of the hot food. We really enjoyed our short stay. thank you for your hospitality.

not much. a couple of things need attention, I forgot to mention them on check out. Rm33 main toilet seat needs reattaching and light in single toilet needs a new globe. I hope you get the message. the windows in the double room section didn’t open far or not at all and kept the room quite hot. perhaps that’s why the fan was provided.

Risley Hall is a fantastic building, with gorgeous scenery. Staff were very friendly and helpful, the room we first checked into was a little dirty, and the room stated it was two double beds although it was just two single beds pushed together which was dangerous as we had a toddler and she could off suffercated down the middle in her sleep if she got trapped. Anyway we reported the room was dirty to reception and the lady moved us to a room straight away, the next room was so much nicer and was clean. Breakfast was basic, bit overall I'd stay again if it was a clean room

Everything! The staff were amazing, especially Michael. He couldn't do enough for us, very professional, friendly, and very proud of Risley Hall. We love the building and the history behind it. Breakfast was a treat, full English, very nice. Central to tourist attractions.

Not enough money in the budget for the upkeep of the hotel and grounds in its entirety. I know it's a grade 11 listed, so it's preservation should be paramount. The general upkeep of the building is lacks. There needs to be some grounds maintenance, grass cutting, path cleaning, window cleaning, driveway lights need fixing. All of this would make for a better first impression and attract more custom.

Hotel is a beautiful old hotel ..grounds are beautiful but everything is a little faded . Breakfast on the morning was lovely . Staff were friendly and the rooms were clean, but and comfortable..I'd probably say the old house was the best but the offshoot had the bugger rooms and it's quirky

The rooms bathrooms were mostly clean ..just little bits missed ..that an old brush head and some loo roll on the floor ...and can there be more bins please. We had the most spacious room but no where really to sit. There were 4 conference rooms in there which was a little odd ..one with a wonky keg and the other with a reserved sign

The room (suite) in which we stayed was spacious and comfortable. It was in fact not the room that we were originally assigned to; when we went to the room it had a large puddle of water on the floor, the result of a leaking pipe in the room above it (in no way the fault of the hotel). The staff worked hard to prepare another room for us, and gave us a free breakfast to compensate for the inconvenience; they also recommended an excellent local restaurant where we could eat in the meantime. The building itself is a picturesque country home. The breakfast was an attractively laid out buffet, with elegant but relaxing rooms with small tables to eat at. Wifi worked well.

The plumbing was evidently aging. The location is somewhat out of the way.

Our room - a family room consisting of two big rooms, three beds, 1 lovely double ensuite bathroom & one ensuite loo - was great. Really comfy. Clean. A couple of niggly things. The staff were lovely. The breakfast was great and served in a beautiful breakfast room with georgian windows overlooking the garden, full linen table setting. Plenty of breakfast and choice. The hotel setting is fabulous. Its history goes back to 1310. The grounds are charming.

When we arrived a couple of rooms weren't ready but it was soon resolved. I didn't like that the poor staff who were lovely were so pushed. They were on reception, they were making up the rooms etc, despite this they were resolutely cheerful, helpful and polite. The bedside light didn't work.

The venue had lovely scenery, the room was nice and clean and the receptionist was wonderful.

I didn't't like that prior to the visit I had heard a few bad reviews and therefore contacted management for some validation but was unfortunately met with the manager Lewis poole whom I thought was extremely rude and did not try to offer any sort of reassurance our trip would be comfortable. Fortunately the wonderful receptionist on the night we stayed was an absolute delight and made our trip. Also the garden was quite overgrown which was a shame as it's a beautiful place.

We just generally liked our stay at Risley. We came with iur 2 children. It was nice to go back for the night to celebrate our 1st wedding anniversary as we got married there last year. When we got there there was a little problem with the room we only had 3 single beds instead of 1 double and 2 singles but was literally delt with and sorted with minutes of talking to the manager joe who was on that day. He was lovely and was really helpful and made us feel welcome. The family room we had was nice and we enjoyed the breakfast too.

I dont think there was anything we didn't like really, would of been nice for the restaurant and bar to have been open but we was told when we booked they wouldn't not be open so we was able to book somewhere to have a meal in the evening, gardens was abit untidy but didn't bother us we still enjoy a walk round them and and still does need a lot of work in places but Risley is still a beautiful place
