Monkbridge House is in a great location, only 450m from Monk Bar- the most formidable entry gate to the Roman walled city. Our hosts ensured every comfort was provided and nothing was too much trouble. We enjoyed freshly cooked breakfasts of bacon and eggs with English specialties such as Black Pudding and sausage, while the homemade granola, berry compote and yoghurt was truly scrumptious. The beds and pillows were super comfy and we savoured the homemade shortbread biscuits with tea in our room.

This was a hidden gem. The breakfast was amazing. The room was wonderful. The beds were comfortable. The shower was great. The backyard was so fun just to sit out and have a glass of wine. Location with perfect. You could go anywhere you want on foot in the town. The host recommended several great restaurants and the breakfast was absolutely amazing. We will be back such a fun place!!

Had a lovely two nights here. The hosts were very kind and helpful. Breakfast was delicious and good variety. Bed was a dream. Sherry on the house a really nice touch. You can tell the family put their heart and soul in the place. Location is good, quiet, about 10 minute walk from York city center. Don't miss the Foss Fairy Trail right outside the house!

Nothing at all, everything was great. Perhaps aside for the water pressure in the shower, but that's minor.

We thoroughly enjoyed our short stay at Monkbridge house. The property is well designed as a guest house and kept in immaculate condition. The breakfast had a good variety of options and was served fresh and hot. Our room was very clean and had all the necessary facilities in new condition and full working order. The hosts were fully approachable and yet remained in the background after we had checked in. The bowl of Quality Street in the shared lounge was much appreciated as were the ‘honesty bar’ in the dining room and the stocked fridge in our room. Private parking is a massive bonus in York and two charge points are available for those with e-cars. Would we stay here again? Without a doubt!

Stayed for 2 nights to see York. We were very happy with the accommodation. The house is in very good condition and is kept very clean. The full english breakfasts are excellent with good size portions and there are a good selection of cereals, jams, fruit and croissants. The hosts are very friendly and very helpful with information about York. We had a delightful stay and would certainly return. The Jorvik viking centre and Railway museum are well worth a visit.

Paul and Fiona are excellent hosts with great attention to detail. You could tell from the moment of entering their establishment just how much love they have for Monkbridge House. The rooms are lovely and all tastefully decorated. Breakfast was served in timeslots bookable the evening before then cooked to order. They were also happy to cook a slightly later breakfast for anyone participating in the local parkrun on the Saturday morning - it definitely helped having runners as your hosts! We were there for Yorkshire Marathon and it was a great shame we couldn't stay for much longer to further explore more of what Yorkshire has to offer.

Great hosts. Excellent communication. Decor throughout the property was smart, and welcoming. Bedroom was superb, and bed very comfortable. Homemade bread and preserves on offer at breakfast, and local suppliers used. Liked the offer of and addtional wo daily specials such as gravadlax and rye bread. Parking on site was a bonus. Location excellent. Less than 10 minute walk to the heart of York.

We were 5 sisters & a sister in law celebrating a special occasion. The accommodation was lovely as were the gardens. We had a lovely breakfast each morning, excellent choices & very plentiful. Paul & Fiona were very accommodating as we arrived early & were able to park our car and again when we checked out we were able to leave the car as we were getting a late flight. Thank you very much Paul & Fiona was facilitating a lovely weekend in a very beautiful city.

There was nothing to dislike

This place exemplifies what a good guest house should be! Newly refurbished guest house. Very friendly and welcoming owners and very comfy bed with Wifi etc. Great breakfast and they were able to do Gluten free bread for me. This place is less then 10 mins walk from the centre of York. Highly recomended! If you have not been to York before, you must go. Its one of the most beautful cities in the world!

You need to be a reasonably good driver to get into the car park as the entrance is slightly narrow.

Breakfast was exceptional and included homemade breads, butter and yogurt. Location was ideal for sightseeing and meals out. The house was beautiful, tastefully decorated and very clean. Paul and Fiona gave us a very warm welcome and couldn’t have done more . They made our stay just wonderful. We will definitely be back and will spread the word about this little gem.

We found the last flight of stairs a bit of a challenge being in our 70’s. But we made it without the need for oxygen! And it was worth the climb.
