Howard Johnson by Wyndham Buena Park

We have stayed here a few times in the past month. They accept cash payments with a 100.00 deposit. We needed that because we had fraud on our bank card and had a temporary card that doesn’t have the chip in it. Most hotels these days do not accept a card without a chip nor do they take cash, so we really appreciated that they took cash. The first room we had was two queens and it was ok,I don’t think it was one of the newer rooms but it was good for the price. Nothing that was so bad that it needs mentioned. It had carpet and the carpet wasn’t bad. I was able to walk in my socks and they didn’t turn black. That’s a plus in my book! The second room we stayed in was The deluxe King and we were absolutely excited. It was so clean, everything was newer and the bed was SO comfortable. Hard wood floors and a new bathtub/shower. The room was big! It’s in a good location and the price is great. Air and heater worked good and the Wi-Fi worked great for me and we stayed for over a week. It was spotty sometimes, mostly at night but nothing unbearable. There is no breakfast at all but we already knew that when we checked in. They do offer free coffee in the office and the office opens at 6 am. I wake up super early so I would just go to the gas station on the corner for my coffee. They do have coffee makers in the room but I need a big cup of coffee in the morning lol. Over all I have no complaints. The people who run the hotel are awesome! We will be back for sure.

Room was clean. Bed was comfortable with plenty of pillows. Bathroom was clean with extra roll of toilet paper and some toiletries. Plenty of towels. Had a microwave and mini frig. Flat screen TV about 50 inches I think. Black out curtains. Air conditioner but I didn't turn it on. Desk area, Sitting lounge chair, rolling chair, Coffee maker with coffee grounds. Closet with ironing board.

Hallway outside was noisy. You could hear people talking and opening and closing their doors. I was on 1st floor facing the parking lot. People were talking out there. Heard TV next room and people talking on the other side of wall. Construction to the street when I arrived so I had to circle around to find how to get onto the property but once I found how they had decent signage to direct the way. I arrived during daylight. Would have been problematic at night. Clock in the room next to the bed had static sound coming out and the radio was off. I had to unplug it because it was irritating. Remote batteries for TV were weak. At one point didn't work so I used the button on side of TV to turn it off. I didn't watch much TV except the channel it was on was local news.

This Howard Johnson was a lovely motel, In terms of the style, I loved the trees surrounding the building and the courtyard outside of our room. It gave a nice feeling of the hotel during our stay. The basics of the hotel such as Beds, bathroom, A/C and room service was great and I have to say, the housekeepers are very consistent. They clean the rooms very fast and provide more sheets at your request. The Hotel is situated in a very good location with shopping malls and stores nearby which allowed us to do plenty of exploring outside the hotel.

Despite the lovely look of the hotel, My roommates and myself have agreed that the price to stay here (6 nights) was a little too expensive for a motel especially during a late January where not much was going on. I stayed at a similar hotel with half the price we had to pay during my last year's visit to California. Our biggest disappointment will need to be the WiFi Connection as I have struggled to connect my newly purchased Playstation 5 to the WiFi hotel to play with my roommates however the signal was too weak for the console to pick up anything. Regardless of this occurrence, Howard Johnson is definitely a place I'd be happy to come back to one day at a fairly reasonable price.

I really enjoyed the staff especially the old housekeeping ladies Sarah I know they may have taken a vacation or something the last 2 weeks we were there but my only suggestions is to the new house keeping to be a little more customer service when someone doesnt speak spanish they dont want to really help but also touch up on their english because its very hard to communicate with them at times but google hellped a little to try and understand the language difference.

That upstairs was being renovated and after coming back to the room after work it was hard to get rest but i understand they had to work.

The staff was very friendly and competent. The bed was very comfortable and the selection of pillows very good. The shower had hot water with great pressure. The waffles and orange juice for breakfast were delicious. It was quiet at the back of the hotel where we were and the curtains blocked out the light very well. Also the air conditioning worked very well.

The hotel is old and needs some more updating. The bathroom cabinet had a musty smell in it (room 247). I would've like a little fresh fruit for breakfast but the waffles, juice, cereal, and bread was fine.

The continental breakfast isn't served anymore but they have a breakfast packet with items such as a snack, a yogurt, an apple, and a muffin. The staff were polite and extended an hour for us to checkout

On arrival, we were assigned a room. The room door lock wasn't working and we had to call an associate to get it fixed. It took about 30 minutes and we just couldn't sleep as it was late at night. Since we didn't spend more time in the room, I didn't notice earlier but on the day of checkout, I saw small insects coming out of sink. Luckily my kids didn't see them earlier as well else they would have played with it or worse could have been possible. The cleanliness was not to the level I was expecting.

The room was a good size for 3 of us. The furniture was a little old but we didn't use. The room was really clean but had a little stench that opening the window solved that issue. I didnt get continental breakfast. A few questionable customers roaming around. Jacuzzi n pool was clean. Overall great price n clean, I would go back.

Leaving more shampoo n conditioner, having reception let us know about continental breakfast n options. Small deodorizer in room.

during my 2 week stay I appreciated the genuine interactions with the staff individually from maintenance to housekeeping all the front desk workers the manager whom I believe checked me in. each encounter was the epitome of customer service in my opinion. they sanitize the restroom and put the sanitzed label around the lid so you know it’s been cleaned. that made me happy. any help I needed was promptly given from coins for the laundry to towels at night or help with tv. I’ve stayed at many hotels recently and some have been downright atrocious in one way or another so it was a relief to find such a clean hotel without any nefarious characters hanging about with reasonable rates. Bottom line is, I enjoy being treated like a real person not just another customer and the entire staff at Howard Johnson by Wyndam Buena Park, executes this flawlessly during customer interaction

I really enjoyed the size of the room. I liked that housekeeping was there each day to clean. I liked that it has a laundry facility, hot tub, and pool. It felt like home.

I think the AC could've been stronger. I wish the TV had HDMI capabilities so that I could play on my Xbox.

The staff is always friendly, nice, and always ready with stay must sees. The cleaning crew is super nice and quick! These ladies know what's up. The parking spaces are ample. The night we stayed here the police were called but I didn't know why or even hear a commotion.

Due to covid there is no longer waffles for continental breakfast, yet they still have breakfast packaged goods available 😉 for their guest. Yet only another example of great customer service.
