Location was amazing! Close to everything. The hotel is beautiful and I loved that it maintained some vintage details. The room was very clean. Having a refrigerator was helpful. There was no microwave in room though. There was a microwave in the lobby for guests to use but I felt a little awkward to go down there and heat things up. Endless tea, coffee, filtered water and cookies in the lobby was a nice touch. It felt safe enough considering its San Francisco and you will encounter some unusual activity because its a big city. There were enough people around that I felt safe enough. Also the room had a safe for valuables, I love when hotels have this.

The coffee was not very good when we tried it but maybe the filter just needed to be changed? It's free though. We just bought coffee elsewhere. Maybe its good sometimes? Microwave in room would have been cool, but I can understand why hotels might not do that.

Very central location .Lovely well preserved 19th century building with lots of character The standard of cleanliness across the building was very high .The staff were great - friendly and extremely helpful . No breakfast facilities but there is 24 hour free tea and coffee and cookies. It also provides excellent value for money .

Location next to Union Square ment that there could be late night noise. My husband thought that there should be a variety of pillows available because they were too plump for him. The power outlets for charging were not next to the bed That meant that if recharging, we needed to work at the desk. If I weren’t so lazy, I would have shifted the desk light to bed stand.

The hotel is very centrally located, which make it easily accessible to several option of means of transport! The room was spacious and clean. The personnel was very friendly. At the lobby was a surprise, since they offer for free coffee, tea, water, fruits and biscuits all day long!!! Alao during evenings, they offer popcorn! They also have a baggage storage after your check out, which is also very convenient if your flight is later in the day!

Check in. Quick & easy. Hotel staff were super friendly throughout our stay. I mentioned that we were celebrating my birthday & the hotel staff generously gave us a bottle of bubbly 😊 & some balloons!! What a lovely surprise. Location Literally 60 seconds from Union Square. Perfect location for public transport, shopping, sightseeing. San Francisco is also a great city to walk & Fisherman Wharf & the Golden Gate Park are a quick bus, or morning stroll away. Also the Walking Tour and the Hop On, Hope Off busses all leave from Union Square so the Chancellor is perfectly situated. McDonald's is 3/4 minutes away, Walgreens & 7eleven are 2/3 minutes away. Right next door is an old school American diner called Sears that does great food all day. Rooms The hotel is an older building & the rooms have an older, quaint feel, but honestly they have everything you could need. They are cozy but spacious. We had a large luggage room with wardrobe, safe, spare pillows. There was also a portable heater & plug in fan should you need them. We didn't even though we visited in Jan. The bed was so comfortable, it was difficult to get out of bed in the morning! :) You can have a choice of pillows too. Our room had a large fridge that Bar / Lobby There is a bar at the lobby, (which we didn't get to try out this time), but the best part was the cookies!! They were plentiful & absolutely delicious!!! The lobby is comfortable & has Coffee, Tea, Apples, Popcorn & Cookies. We stayed at the hotel in Jan, so it was lovely to be able to grab a coffee or tea & have a chat with the hotel staff & enjoy some cookies before hitting the hay. Check out Quick & easy. I love the location, the cleanliness and the friendliness of the staff, and of course the pillow menu.

The best thing is that you can have a cup of coffee/tea & cookie at lobby first thing in the morning when you go out, and when you come back to the hotel with cold and tired body (oh sometimes there is even popcorn!). This is like fuel delivered in the snow and also how this cozy hotel makes you feel like home. We were worried that there was no AC in the hotel bit it turned out totally fine since it's December. As long as there is heater and we can open the window for fresh air, we feel fine. The clothes drying line in the bathroom was a very friendly set up especially when we stayed there for two weeks. The location is unbeatable that you can do multiple small trips in and out of the hotel everyday.

One day we saw a guy standing on the fire escapes out side of our hotel window, which made us feel a bit insecured.

Cleanliness

The staff was friendly and professional and very helpful. The room looked as if it had been recently refurbished and was very clean and beautifully furnished. The location was ideal within steps of Union Square and the cable car went right past the front door. It was very convenient and I felt safe, which was important as I am an older woman travelling alone. There was a strong police presence in the area, which added to the feeling of safety. There was a good variety of restaurants nearby. There were free cookies and apples and water available in the lobby. I should also mention that the amenities in the bathroom were of good quality, and I loved the "pillow menu". All in all, I was pleasantly surprised that for such a relatively reasonable price, I was able to really enjoy my stay. I highly recommend this hotel!

If I had but one complaint, the toilet structure (when sitting) was too close to the bathroom wall making “things” a bit difficult.
