full of character, very friendly helpful staff, the bed was so comfy! they have a car that takes you wherever you want to go in town for free.
no air conditioning I imagine in summer it’s very hot. the view from the window was awful and the shower head was way too low. noise from upper levels through ceiling.

Quaint decor. Very inviting parlour with gas fires, complimentary tea/coffee throughout the day and cookies and sherry in the later afternoon. Excellent breakfast.
Nothing. it was all good.

The hotel is beautiful. We enjoyed our stay very much. The history is amazing and we were happy to be able to do a little ghost hunting during our stay. The staff were fantastic and so friendly and welcoming.

The hotel has a retro / old-timey Victorian charm, it might not be to everyone's taste, but we simply loved it! It is located close to Japantown & Pacific Heights neighborhoods, which was definitely a plus. Very convenient to go sightseeing and check the Painted Ladies, but also to wander in cool local neighborhoods. Public transportation (bus) is close, so very convenient to go all over the city. The room was very comfortable and quiet. The staff was super helpful: my husband could not lift any suitcase due to a recent surgery, they carried everything in our room. The sherry time from 4 to 6 was definitely a plus: it's great to know you can hang out and have a nice drink in the common area in between walks in the city.
Equipment a little old (especially the heating device) but on the whole everything worked fine. The breakfast could be improved.

I have never stayed here and it was absolutely beautiful. I love history so that was the initial reason I chose this place. It use to be a girls boarding school. The lobby was decorated for Christmas. The cookies were delicious, as was the breakfast. There was an air of spookiness in one part of the 2nd floor hallway but it didn’t feel sinister. I loved the fireplace in my room and I slept well since the bed was so comfortable.
The breakfast room was a bit cold but no biggie. I also couldn’t find the water the second morning. It was there the first.

I enjoyed being close to the Fillmore and Japantown, and not all that far from other cool SF locations. In addition, the place itself is charming with antiques and decorations that were warm and cozy. Breakfast was fine, and the 4:00 afternoon tea and cookies was something I looked forward to during my three-day stay.
My dresser had sticky drawers. It wasn't a problem for me, but might bother someone else. I told the manager and I am certain that it will be taken care of because the staff was always so helpful.

We picked this hotel for the pictures and were not disappointed: The decor is lovely, like a step back in time - and the christmas decorations made it even more inviting. The room was beautiful, not really big but certainly adequate. The staff is very friendly and helpful. Convenient central location; you can walk to all major sights (Golden Gate Bridge, Fishermans Warf, Chinatown) in 30-45 minutes.
The Wifi signal is weak and unstable.

Location was great, close to public transportation. Good breakfast, but a little change would have been nice.
The coffee cups! I understand the Victorian theme but the cups are just too small, even the paper ones. Had to be very careful not to spill when using coffee machine in breakfast area. Also, a Keurig would be nice in the rooms.

Location was great for our trip to Japantown. Breakfast was a bonus. Cookies in the afternoon were yummy! The staff was great; they held our bags and let us stay in the parking lot after checkout so we could take some time walking around Japantown.
Our room was clean but had a strong bleach odor. When we tried to open our window to air it out, we couldn't raise it more than a few inches. This was a potential issue as the fire escape was out that window.

A beautiful place to stay. Old fashioned but certainly know how to look after their guests. The hotel was very festive. The lounge area had beautiful fire places and were comfy to sit and relax in after a full days walking and sight seeing. The Sherry and cookies between 4pm and 6pm were a wonderful touch.
Coffee in the morning didn't taste too well. Not sure if the machines needed a good clean.
