July 2023

We absolutely loved the staff that we met during our stay. July 7th was a peaceful day and evening with the most comfortable bed and singing birds in the morning. July 8th we had an incredibly delicious breakfast made by Caesar. He was so kind and helpful and met all of our needs. Talented chef! We were so impressed as well with Blaire that morning. She was so kind and gave us recommendations for places to see in Taos as well as in Santa Fe, our destination that day. We loved our experience with all of you! And we loved the special tour in the secret room :) We also loved the easy parking right by our door, our own patio, delicious coffee in the room, the view from our room and all of the beautiful variety of tall trees.

We were sad to learn that the jacuzzi was not working during our stay. It looks so nice, located outdoors in an incredibly private location that even has sign up times.

The shower has a built-in sana, which was super nice! The room had a private 2-person hot tub. The bed was very comfortable, and the AC unit in the room worked well and provided good grey noise. The orange juice for breakfast was freshly squeezed and fabulous! It's a very nice atmosphere. The gounds are scenic. The host was very friendly and quick to respond to my questions.

There was a fireplace with logs and a lighter but no kindling, so I was unable to get the logs started, but had I known it was an option I would have brought my own. The room could have benefited from a pest control spray, nothing major, but there were several stray spiders in our room, including a blackwidow's web hanging from the ceiling in our shower. It's an older facility, and the room shows its age. Overall, It was very comfortable, but for the price, I was expecting more/better. Overall, it was an okay experience, but at this price point, I probably wouldn't stay here again.

My husband and I live in Santa Fe but enjoy traveling to Taos for a change of pace. The Hacienda del Sol is our favorite lodging option. We recently stayed in the Cowboy Suite and appreciated its spaciousness, fireplace, comfortable beds and linens, and excellent views of the interior grassy courtyard and of Taos Mountain. Each room has a different character, but you can definitely count on comfortable beds, hot showers, lots of towels, and some rooms have microwave ovens and/or small refrigerators. The room we stayed in also had bathrobes; not sure if this is also true for other rooms. Additionally HDS offers an outstanding breakfast in the morning including an egg special cooked to order by a chef, vegan tamales, fresh fruit, fresh squeezed orange juice, cereals, home baked goods and excellent coffee and tea service. The property is well-located, close to great restaurants (Love Apple is adjacent, Michael's just down the road), as well as Taos Plaza and Taos Pueblo. Checkin is seamless, with instructions texted and/or emailed in advance. This is a really special place to stay, and good value.

This property is minimally staffed, so you may not find anyone on the premises to help you, if an issue comes up. A phone number is provided to call for assistance, if needed. We've never had a problem, and prefer self checkin, but this may not be true for other travelers.

Hacienda Del Sol has a lovely, old world vibe to it. The grounds are large & peaceful w/ a mountain view. It was fun to sit in Mabel's Lounge and reflect upon the famous people who'd once shared this space. Rooms are quaint, the mattresses comfy, linens, pillows & towels are high quality. The supplied toiletries smelled great. There's a fireplace, mini fridge, coffee station, hair dryer, bathrobes and a clothes steamer for your rumpled attire. Parking was easy and amply sized. We traveled with another couple; I booked The Adobe and Mabel's Salon. We opted for Adobe as the door to Mable's Salon has low clearance. People weren't very tall 200 years ago and my hubby is 6'4". Our friends enjoyed their fireplace and the hot tub. You sign up for a private time, so no sharing with strangers. Fabulous breakfast! I'm suspect when people say this as often it refers to cereal, powdered egg product, and yogurt because they were free, but this really was tasty. The pork tamales are wonderful; they're lighter & fluffier than most and had an outstanding, smokey flavor. Freshly squeezed OJ was a real treat. The gentleman cooking breakfast tacos to order was very helpful and friendly. Also regarding food, we enjoyed being able to walk across the driveway to The Love Apple for dinner. Self check-in/check-out means HDS operates more like arriving at a short term rental than a hotel, this is fine. Just know it & don't be upset if there aren't people around to wait on you all day. It's clear on their website so I don't understand the criticisms. We happened to arrive when someone was there to show us around which was a bonus. Don't expect a shiny 5 star property then complain about this lodging-that's not fair. It's a 200 year old, intimate property that comes along with the anticipated charms and quirks that have developed over the years.

Single ply toilet paper-it should be outlawed. The drawing of the layout of the rooms has an arrow showing Adobe being accessed from the rear. That room is accessed from it's front courtyard. Not a big deal, but it could be confusing to someone arriving at night.

Delicious breakfast, amazing hot tub, comfortable beds, huge jacuzzi, amenities & extras were super nice. lots of places to relax. Beautiful property.

It was not communicated that the parking lot only allows for 1 car per room. Our friends were meeting us (we stayed in a 2-room suite), and parking became this whole ordeal with another couple getting angry with us for parking in their spot—even though management told us it was ok. Clear communication of this situation on the website or booking info would have prevented such a headache. Our fireplace was great but also very difficult to light. It usually took at least 5 mins of fiddling with it to get it to work. The chef on Sunday said she would make eggs to order for my husband. He never got them, and a couple that came in after us were served eggs. She was a great cook, but the process seemed a little haphazard.

Everything was exceptional! The room was tasteful, with all amenities provided. Check-in instructions were simple, and we didn't deal with the hassle of check-in procedures. We booked last minute, but got communications right away about everything we could expect. Now let's move on to breakfast...drool! It was all amazing. Like actual espresso, fresh squeezed(by machine) orange juice, made to order eggs, the softest chocolate croissants, tamales, and I could go on, everything you could want for a proper hearty breakfast. They did not cut any corners. The staff we interacted with were super friendly and just so laid back. I would go back again and again. I cannot wait for the next time! Thank you all so much for a lovely stay, we could not have asked for more.

Nothing really. The turn into the property is a little confusing so just be careful. Also read all the instructions, because it's all in there. Get familiar with technology, you will need it to get in and out.

I loved the self check in. The property, building and room were stunning. We were in the smallest room, and it was still exceptional. The bathrobes, the bedding, the windows ... Loved it!

The breakfast that was offered did not match the breakfast menu listed on the website. My partner and I do not eat meat, so we expected the meat-free options listed online, which were not actually offered. The chef DID offer to make a meat-free frittata, but I did not feel comfortable accepting for that just for myself and partner. The website listed meat-free, so that was disappointing.

The location was fabulous—north end of Taos with fabulous view of mountains to the east. The rooms were very comfortable; the breakfast was delicious and ample; the staff was friendly and helpful. There was even a hot tub that guests could sign up to us every day. There was a spacious outdoor area with tables and chairs. The whole place had a warm, welcoming feel.

The facilities seemed a little dated, but we were there just two weeks after new owners had acquired the property. They had already started to update the facility and it will no doubt be much improved shortly.

The breakfast was outstanding. The coffee and fresh orange juice machines worked very well. On the morning we left, Blair let us eat early because we were trying to beat an incoming snow storm in Colorado. She even fixed a special egg dish for us. We also liked the 24 hr access to the kitchen for ice or hot water. The location is very quiet and the grounds nice. The facility is very clean and well maintained. The owners are a really nice couple.

The bed was nicely fitted out but was a little firm for a side sleeper. A foam mattress pad would fix that. I liked that the room (La Escondida) didn't have a tv but my wife, a news junkie, suffered a bit of withdrawal.

The location of the rooms in the garden is very pleasant. For the first and only time on our trip across eight states we had underfloor heating. Excellent breakfast in a pleasant setting, tables with tablecloths! Huge selection of meals ala cart from the cozy kitchen in the room. The only time on our US cruise we had real coffee for breakfast! They have two Jura coffee makers. Dream. 60m walk to excellent dinner restaurant Love Heart. Parking included. Seating in the garden.

They are perfect.
