Hampton Inn Charleston-Historic District

Nicely appointed, hot breakfast, nice courtyard to sit in for breakfast or afternoon cup of coffee. Friendly staff. Have to take the bus in to town but the stop is right across the street.

Fodor's guide says parking is available at $25 a day. We were told that if you arrive and leave your car overnight, that comes to $50. This is unacceptable. Car rental prices are already very high. Anybody staying in a hotel is going to stay overnight, so you are really looking at $50 to stay there and park your car. This is a negative consideration for anyone trying to decide whether to stay here.

The staff here is exceptional. Our arrival time kept getting pushed back, but we got texts from the front desk staff letting us know they would be all ready for us. Every single staff member we came into contact with was personable and not only willing to help, but proactively asked if there was anything they could do for us. Even before we arrived in Charleston, I asked if they had any car services that they would suggest. They gave me the contact that a lot of their guests use which turned out to be a godsend. Especially considering we arrived so late. They stored our luggage for us on the last day since we didn't fly out until the evening. The free trolley stop is directly in front of the hotel that we used every day. We didn't really take advantage of the breakfast spread, but we did grab coffee every morning. Since we shared the room, we could have used more hangers. In all fairness, we didn't ask anyone if we could have a couple more. They probably would have found some for us.

Location and patking

Breakfast was horrid....sausage cold and horrible taste....didnt eat breakfast though was included Room was adequate ..no fridge or microwave...no luggage stands

When we arrived we had no idea where to park so we just pulled up outside and went inside. We were greeted by Dee at reception who explained exactly what we needed to do. Only one chance at a first impression and Dee nailed it. Bearing in mind that this a fairly old hotel my wife and I were entirely happy with our short stay. Sure there are a few cracked tiles and the carpet is a little worn but the hotel was clean. Breakfast was complimentary and I have to say much better than some hotels where there is a charge. If we ever go back to Charleston this hotel would be our first choice. Thanks.

Not much to criticize apart from the afore mentioned cracked tiles and worn carpet. Maybe a little cleanup around the entrance wouldn't go amiss.

The staff was amazing. Very friendly and informative. The check in personnel greeted me with a genuine smile and made me feel welcome. The hotel was near everything! You can walk in either direction and find anything you may need from food to shopping and spas.

I wish our room had a small fridge to at least keep drinks cold. The air didn't work very well in the room. Even at the lowest setting it still stayed kind of warm and humid. It made getting ready for the wedding we were attending a little harder.

The location of the hotel was wonderful, close to everything. The visitor center right across the street. Buses are across the street was perfect for getting around Charleston. The breakfast was awesome, hot and delicious. Breakfast had a great selection of food to choose from. Our rooms were clean and plenty of towels in the bathroom which is always great. The best part, no ghost. Nice quite stay, uneventful.

The reception staff were really friendly and helpful whenever we spoke to them and sorted out a cab back to the airport for us. Room was spacious with comfortable big beds, nice shower and felt homely. The location is fantastic, right by the pickup for bus tours and just behind Kings Street where all the action is. You can walk to almost all the attractions from the hotel, but there’s also a free bus around town with a stop outside the hotel. The hotel had breakfast which seems a novelty in the US, a bit basic but fine, with fresh fruit, porridge or grits, the Hilton waffles and scrambled eggs with potatoes and bacon. You could get free bottled water from reception whenever you needed it and there are also vending machines.

Water in shower and sink took ages to drain. TV not the best (although not really there for TV!), and room was a little dark.

Breakfast was good, room was clean.

Not enough towel racks. Registration didn't tell us details about breakfast times. Parking is in a garage next to the hotel, which is a public parking facility although hotel guests have special treatment. The spaces were small, and the garage was nearly full. If you are a hotel guest, upon exiting the garage, you have to find the attendant either by sight or by pressing a button on the exit device. This was all a bit annoying.

The location of the hotel in proximity to shopping, restaurants and entertainment is fabulous! Breakfast was good, should last a little longer as everyone hoards it all at once. The staff was phenomenal and always friendly.

The cost was high for this hotel. The pool needed some TLC when we were there, and the pool temp was extremely warm.

Breakfast was overall good, but not many healthy options. Lots of sugary and industrial food. I loved that they had a gym, but they did not have any basic (yoga) mat to use on the floor. Expensive, but cheaper than other options in town.
