The historical aspects are amazing.

No desk in room or convenient receptacle for work. No option for a light quick breakfast. No food available at bar. Inconvenience of Uber dropoff—guest should be told about 320 Bonham.

The common areas are absolutely beautiful. Very intriguing.

The man who checked me out. It took a very long time to checkout a room already paid for through Booking.com. He seemed really confused. It took nearly 5 minutes. Then he wanted to get upset because I was irritated. I didn’t say anything to him and he said “I’m new” with a terrible attitude. I didn’t care for it. If I wanted to hear snark remarks or receive a rude attitude I would’ve stayed home with my teenagers. Also, our first room, the bed was horrid. Should be pulled and burned.

Old hotel from the 1850s but maintained very well. The desk staff is very helpful, and the (haunted) bar on the main floor is worth the visit, as is the restaurant. Can't beat the location, right next to the Alamo and only a few minutes to the River Walk.

Maid service comes in every 4th day, unless you request something. That in itself is fine, but it would be better if they at least stopped in every day or two to take out the trash, and replenish the coffee and water. If we hadn't been around when a maid was nearby on the floor we had to go down to the desk and ask for the water and coffee. The trash was a problem, we used a shopping bag by the third day.

Cleanliness, history, tranquil court yard, decent gym, location

Need handle in the shower-bath tub, toilet paper dispenser did not work (Room 4024), Colonial Room not open for dinner :-(, and front desk staff and hostess in Colonial Room frequently grumpy--e.g. after the Front Desk failed to notify me the delivery from amazon had finally arrived--even after calling to make sure at 8 pm night before check out on 08 March--3 hours after check out someone called to tell me they had the delivery--and they wanted to charge me for forwarding it on to my residence! Sorry where I come from when a hotel makes a mistake--they do not make the guest pay for it.

Spacious room, comfortable mattress, nice bath. LOVED the view of Alamo Plaza. Really enjoyed the pool area and poolside drink/food service. Proximity to the river and other area attractions is great. You just can't beat a truly historic hotel like the Menger. Wonder wonderful staff.

Sound travels differently in older hotels. Bring a pair of earbuds. This is especially true if your room faces the plaza where many street performers are recruiting audiences. It's only a problem if you want to nap. Of course, we also enjoyed leaning out our open window and enjoying their performances.

Being upgraded to a suite when our window was broken by a flying umbrella from the taco cafe! Loved the historic property, ornate decor, and location next to the Alamo and near the riverwalk.

Could hear a man snoring reeeeaally loud all night our 1st night (next door I’m guessing). DIdn’t get any info when we checked in about the history of the hotel or anything (but the lady at check out handed us written info when I asked for it) after we went on a ghost tour the previous night. Would’ve liked more interaction from staff and info about the history and haunting when we visited the tavern.

The bed and pillows were very plush comfortable. We love the tavern for a nightcap- felt it could use a little dusting and cleaning though- especially the mirrors. . The rest of the Hotel was kept up well- very clean. It is an older hotel with history and charm. The only issue we had was the plumbing- toilets flushed loudly and could hear them flush in other rooms. Otherwise, the soundproofing was good. The location is great- just steps to the Alamo and the Riverwalk. The price is steep but we were there on St. Patricks Day weekend so expected to pay for convenient ocation. We would stay there again!

The hotel is absolutely gorgeous inside and rich with history. It was always clean and smelled great constantly throughout the whole hotel. We stayed in the historic portion of the hotel which was like stepping into history, but still updated for a great stay. I enjoyed all the intricate details (crown molding, antiques, stain glass windows) the hotel had to offer from being around since 1859. Staff was very friendly and helpful. The breakfast buffet downstairs on the first floor was very good, the coffee was fantastic, and our server was fantastic.

If you choose to use the valet service which is very convenient currently due to all the Alamo Plaza construction, be prepared to spend $35 a day. However, you can go in and out as you need. The bed was less to be desired in our room. Very old that made a loud noise every time I got up and angled toward the middle when lying on it.

Very nice lobby. Excellent parking valets - polite, friendly, informative, and efficient. The desk staff during this stay and my previous stay were excellent, friendly, and helpful. The breakfast buffet is more than ample, and the wait staff is very friendly and efficient. The rooms are a bit dated, but the bed was very comfortable, and the blackout shades worked very well.

The room and restroom, in particular, are a bit dated. One issue I experienced and experienced during a prior stay was that the power plugs were old and worn. Phone and computer chargers tend to fall out of the plugs. On this occasion and a prior occasion, I had to wedge my plugs into the lamp base or a wall plug with a book or a piece of luggage (at the wall plug). The restroom could use more towels, but the housekeepers are friendly and will provide additional towels if asked.

The location is perfect! So close to the Riverwalk and many attractions downtown. Also it is beautiful and felt almost regal in design. Love the historical aspect too. The pool is very nice and clean as well. We enjoyed the breakfast buffet too.

The bathrooms didn’t my have enough counter space or places to hang towels. Wish the shower curtain curves outward so it didn’t stick to you while you shower.
