We didn't have breakfast. Didn't know that was available but they have a nice bakery down the street. Breakfast was not great at the bakery but the baked goods were fine. I love the Monarch. We have stayed there before. If you have trouble climbing stairs, you may have a problem. There are many stairs to get to your room unless you stay on the 2nd floor. We have stayed on the top floor before and lugging bags up there can be difficult. It is an older hotel so loved the charm of the place. We needed an extra bed and they provided the cot and linens. The gentleman at the front desk was very kind and helpful. The location cannot be beat. It is close to everything especially all the shops. EXTRA KUDOs to the shops near the Monarch. We went to one called the Green Eyeshade. It is just up on the next block from Monarch. One of the best shops we have ever been in. Their buyer is someone that knows what people look for. We bought a bunch of poland pottery and my sister bought a Mermaid bench. LOVE PORT TOWNSEND and cannot wait to go back. Will stay at the Monarch again if we can get a room. LOVE the hotel and its charm.

Can't think of anything. Maybe a place to put the keys when you check out especially if you are staying on the lower level. There is no key drop there. We had to catch an early ferry so put it through the mail slot because the front desk was not open yet. I wish they had a lock box outside that is accessible to drop the keys when staying on the lower floors. They have one for the upper floors inside at the bottom of the stairs but cannot access that lock box.

Great historic hotel, in a great location for good value in beautiful Port Townsend. If you like simple, charming and historic than this is a great option. It's not fancy, there aren't lots of extras (and maybe the carpet could do with a refresh), but very comfortable beds, clean space, functional, beautiful huge windows for those that prefer staying in unique hotels with character. Right in the heart of the little town so you can walk to the old movie theater, and plenty of restaurants at the doorstep

Our room was first floor and easily accessible-- a few stairs. The view is of lovely harbor, sail boats, kayaks, the ferry boat coming into view. It was quiet. Amazing location. The hostess brought us a special fresh grind of decaf for our room coffee machine.

We hadn't noticed the contact info for help with initiating the Tech equipment for netflicks movies. We couldn't watch a movie ( But we both brought a good read) The upstairs noises were apparent in the evening at bedtime, like phone ringing.

I love the ambiance, the location, the bed and the deck. We were in Suite 5 and it was wonderful. The bed was so comfortable. The only complaint is that there was no AC and we had to sleep with the windows open. The area is very noisy with the seagulls song. The water pressure in the shower was hit or miss but I think that all just goes with the age of the building. We loved the deck looking over the water.

I would sincerely thank Mary waiting for us checkin after 10pm. We have been to Port Townsend a few times, and never had reservation on Ferry during weekdays. However, the ferry schedules reduced, due to the total vessels changed from 2 to 1. We waited 2 sailings, and had a vary late check in. Mary did a quick smooth check in for us. The hotel beds are comfortable, room is very large with high ceiling, and high windows, had a feeling of Back In Time! Nice stay!

The room was beautiful and beyond comfortable! The bed was the most comfortable sleep I've ever had in a hotel! I believe the bed was microfiber or memory foam or something the bed conformed to your body and supported your back. Best sleep I've had in months! It was the coolest stay I have ever been to. I was in room 18, it was quiet the carpet was comfortable especially at night when it cooled off. I had a Blast in this hotel and staff were very nice and accommodating, gave me suggestions of shops to check out during my stay. 10/10 would recommend a stay at the Historic Monarch Hotel! 🏨

Room gets a little warm during the day, but in an older building with large scaling windows that bring in all the sunlight; you should expect that. They do provide you with a fan to help cool the room down. So not much of a con here, mostly just pros here :)

This is a classic old hotel with a varied history in the middle of Port Townsend - a classic, Victoria-era seaport with a thriving boating community. The old hotel has great woodwork, high ceilings, and large windows with wood frames. It's classic and, for me, a must-stay type of hotel if you want to experience downtown Port Townsend. It's also a small hotel with limited staff, but they are incredible profession and attentive.

Location is perfect. But this an old building. The wind blows thru the windows which have no sealing, so expect drafts in cold weather. And of course no elevator. But it’s clean and comfortable.

The front desk staff was kind of grumpy. She was not very welcoming, and complained about the town politics. She explained that the 2 hour parking signs have not been enforced for 3 years, and how potholes are not being fixed, etc. I would have preferred something cheerier.

I loved the location. the room was big and the bed was comfortable. The building was really old but quite charming. The price was very reasonable for being on Main Street in Port Townsend. The check-in woman was very kind and explained the ins and outs of the hotel.

I was in a front room overlooking the street. (no a/c add only one window had a screen. The carpet though clean needs replacing. the room we were in had a strange bathroom lay out. you had to step up a stair to get to the toilet. A small stand up shower had a curtain not quite long enough to keep water in the shower. if you have mobility issues the huge set of stairs might be an issue especially if you have large suitcases.

Huge room with a wonderful deck with beautiful view of the sea! Lots of room for the 5 of us. Right in the middle of town, and nice historical hotel.

My only complaint is that the rugs could have been cleaner, especially on the stairs and in the hallway. The windows in the room were hard to open when it is hot, and there is no air conditioning so you need all the windows to open.
