Crystalbrook Byron

We loved this hotel, that used to be called The Byron at Byron but now belongs to the Crystalbrook group. We had a rainforest suite on the ground floor and loved it. Was spacious, clean, had a bathtub and had a washing machine/dryer which is amazing if you’re travelling around Australia for a month. The staff is kind and helpful. The prices at the restaurant (Forest and Veranda) are quite high but the food is excellent. The hotel is frequented by actors and musicians. The pool is amazing, as is the tenniscourt and the beach (Tallow Beach) that is close to the resort.

It is not at a walking distance from Byron Bay centre of town, we took an Uber back and to, or the resort shuttle which drove at 11 am, 1 pm and 3 pm and was free.

I have been staying at this hotel (with a kitchenette) for many years and love it because of its location - in the middle of a rainforest close to the best beach in the world! It's out of town but they have a shuttle service and Uber is brilliant in Byron now. I have many friends in this little town and this hotel is my one-stop for R&R! There's free yoga in the morning, little wallabies hopping around the trees, a superb pool, and spa and the food is exceptional under new chef Jordan. They are really Eco under the new ownership too. You won't see any paper anywhere and no towel and washing waste.

The hotel has been taken over by new owners Crystalbrook and a lot of updating has gone on. But I don't like the new sofas in the room because the L shape has gone - so good for watching TV - and I hated the new bathrobes - nowhere warm enough for the winter! Not impressed with the TV either.....all the apps have to be accessed through your 'phone which I really couldn't be bothered to go through as the wifi is not the best in that part of Byron.

It’s a very private rainforest hideaway which is beautifully maintained. It has such a relaxed and peaceful environment which we loved. The rooms were spacious and clean. Lovely rainforest views all around and felt private even though there were other apartments all around us. Staff were lovely, helpful and polite. The restaurant had delicious food and drink for every meal we had and the staff were very helpful and informative on menu options to suit the palette. Especially at night when we had our 28th wedding anniversary dinner there. Loved it and would definitely stay at Crystalbrook again in the near future.

The only thing we didn’t love was the on demand movie option was not working in our apartment. The staff were quick to respond but were not able to fix the problem until after our stay. They did offer to swap rooms but we had already unpacked so they gave us complimentary breakfasts which we were happy with.

Loved the service and the staff - exceptional. I felt well looked after and that staff were approachable and professional. Elemes Spa was wonderful as well. Loved the movies on demand - this is now rare to find in hotels.

The room service food was average. A cucumber salad was served on a hot pasta and was inedible. The pasta itself was unremarkable. The room service menu was limited and the service fee was excessive. The facilities are a little dated (my front sliding door was missing a lock). In particular, the shower cornices were rusted and cracked and this made them look dirty and old.

Lovely location and layout, the rooms are spacious and provide two balconies that overlook rainforest. The rooms are a short walk from the beach, and also the pool and sauna which were relaxing.

The pillows were extremely uncomfortable, one of our keycards didn’t work, the coffee machine milk frother had a missing whisk. The bath light also flicked quite a lot so couldn’t use it while bathing.

Beautiful resort, lovely ambience to the place. We really liked the extensive board walks, long and varied enough to make you feel like you've actually had a good walk, plus the beach if you wanted to walk further. Rooms were great, spotless, and private at the back overlooking nature. Friendly helpful staff. Fabulous nature outlook all through the resort. Just a lovely gentle place to be. We'll be back.

Wifi wasn't strong in private rooms, but at least there was one bar reception in some spots... Wifi was fine in the beautiful public areas though.

Dinner at the onsite restaurant, Forest, was outstanding. We also had food and drinks in the casual area, Verandah, and they were great. Every staff member was warm and friendly. We arrived early and were able to check-in, leave our bags and head into town. The staff took our bags to the room when it was ready and sent us a text to say we could get into our room, ahead of official check-in time. They were so helpful and everything was managed so efficiently. This is our first time staying in a Crystalbrook property and if this stay is reflective of how they do things, I can't wait to stay at their other hotels too. I should add that the room itself was wonderful - very spacious, with beautiful views into the rainforest and across the glorious gardens of the resort. We really could not have asked for more - what a great long weekend we had!

Our room wasn't serviced on our first day as the housekeeping staff came while we were in the room. We asked them to come back shortly, after we had gone out, but returned several hours later to find the room had not been attended to. We then had an afternoon nap and despite the 'do not disturb' sign on the door, they entered our room and woke us up!

I loved the friendly service and amazing facilities. I also loved the various walks. From the lotus temple to the rainforest walk and even the path to the beach. They were all amazing!! I also loved the location. As we were travelling by car we were able to head to the city easily and to all the various tourist spots. I also loved the lighted sign outside of the resort as it made turning into the resort a lot easier and a lot safer. The front desk was also filled with knowledgeable, patient and helpful staff. They were well versed in the area from parking timeframes to restaurants to other fun and relaxing places to visit.

I would say that knowing which number connected the phone to the front desk ahead of time would be best. However it is likely that we did not locate this information.

Pool was stunning, temperature just right, service was simply perfect! Forest dining was flawless, the menu however was a little bit pricey. The setting was exceptional!

The beds albeit super comfy were a little too soft. Green waste bins/bench caddy’s would have been great to have in the room to dispose of our fresh fruit and veggie scraps. But the rooms were stunning! Thankyou ☺️

A beautiful escape into a rain forest of magic. With chirping birds and pristine ambiance. A lovely place to escape with the whole family, and the SPA was absolutely amazing. Loved our whole experience. Including the thunderstorm on our second day.

Our 630am yoga class was less than desirable. We had a very stern and advanced instructor who offered a very challenging class with advanced moves that weren't suitable to all levels. We all left quite sore and quite shocked to be honest. But we just laughed it all away as it reminded of the White Lotus Movie. Haha.
