Fern Bay Motel

My sister and I came from QLD to see our sick dad. Room 21 was very cozy and the beds were great after a long trip.

The fridge was a great size however could be better with a freezer. The only really bad thing was the bathroom. The shower screen didn't have a door on it which made the floor very wet, even if you pointed the shower head to the wall. It might be a good idea to place a sign in the rooms asking people to close the doors quietly as people next door were leaving around 5 in the morning and must of done 4-5 trips to the car and had the door slamming shut every time. Just a thought.

I had the hot Big breakfast. It was yummy well cooked, big variety on plate & well proportioned, filled up & Good start for the day. We stayed for 2 nights. Will stay again next time we are travelling. The unit was very comfortable. Only a short 15-20min drive to City centre. Our friend who was traveling with us as we were attending a Convention held at the City Hall for the week end, booked into a unit in the city & paid more than double the price that we paid. We will recommend to all our friends & others if looking for a great place to stay. The staff were very friendly & helpful & made us feel welcomed & appreciative of supporting them.

Park right outside your door, room was very clean, comfy bed, coin operated washing machine and dryer, microwave, fridge, kettle and toaster very handy and great price. I'll definately be back 🙂

For the price I paid I didn't mind AT ALL, but if they're looking for ways to improve?... A full length mirror, somewhere to hang clothes, even a hook for a dress if attending a special occasion etc, there was an iron but no ironing board, I'm sure they would have one to use, probably just need to request it and the bathroom was very narrow, I actually hit my forehead on the wall while using the toilet lol

We love this motel, we have stayed there a few times, and they are always polite like to have a chat, if you need anything they are always there. We stayed in the room we stayed in last time we were there and we love that room. Having a few leg issues, it's just what we needed. Close to office, no stairs, it was perfect. There was nothing we disliked. Everything about this place we enjoyed. The breakfast on the last day was so good, thouroughly enjoyed it.

Big clean rooms, very comfortable beds and pillows. Clean bathrooms with nice tiles. Friendly staff, location is not bad as it is in the middle of Newcastle and Anna Bay. Breakfast options are good at reasonable rates.

One of the days, had requested for rooms to be cleaned up and beds made but didn't happen due to lack of communication between the staff. Kitchenware was missing and had to ask for it and layer it was arranged. Towels were replaced in only one of the 2 rooms I had booked but staff attended to it after I informed them. Overall it was not a bad experience, it's a great location and very comfortable rooms. Definitely some scope for improvement. I would recommend this hotel

Easy access down the motorway to the city or beach, but also close by the ferry to pop over via the more scenic route. The bed was comfy, room was clean and they provide some lovely soap/shampoo products.

We stayed in room 20 - there’s a bit of traffic noise because you’re close to the road and we seemed to have a couple of electric water tanks outside the bathroom window, which whirred away. The positioning of the shower & screens meant the whole bathroom floor was soaked, but the shower itself was great!

The rooms were cleaned daily & beds made up daily by the terrific staff.The new managers had only been there for four months so were working through updating each room.A little bar/ coffee/sitting area & a small dining area near reception were unexpected but much appreciated.It was lovely to chat with the staff who went out of their way to make our stay comfortable & relaxing.A shuttle service was available if flying there & enough parking for all rooms. Meals were available & our son who was staying in another room there enjoyed breakfast there.It was perfectly situated for us as our daughter lives nearby.The ferry to Newcastle operates fairly close by which saved driving & trying to park in Newcastle.The staff were very helpful & know the area well so could make suggestions based on that. For a small fee the local RSL provides a shuttle bus.Shopping was easy with an IGA, newsagent, bakery & chemist being some of the shops in nearby Stockton.Walking paths ,a milk bar & park are also close by.There is also a local bus which runs by.Tourist attractions are easily reached & the motel backs onto a golf course.We really enjoyed our stay.

Room was nice and clean, comfortable bed, good-sized TV, strong internet and hot shower with good water pressure. The staff were very friendly, professional and couldn't do enough to make our stay more memorable. We ate in at the in-house restaurant 2 nights and the meals were excellent and very reasonably priced.

The location was within easy driving distance of beaches, but not really near shops, so a bit of driving required. Having said this, it was a fairly quiet location and had plenty of space around (backed onto a golf course).

Perfect overnight stop for us. Clean and comfortable. We had queen bed and 3 singles for 3A & 2C. Our hot breakfast was amazing, good value and brought to our room at specified time we ticked. It was delicious. Gave a 9 as only improvements would be to install either block out curtain or sheers on main window and possibly in future change shower curtain to frame on both sides. Well maintained, plenty of space. I would highly recommend staying at this motel. Check in and out were seemless. Carparking onsite. Convenient spot to travel from and see the area. Such a great facility.

No real dislikes but main window needs some other type of curtain for privacy during day - not a big deal but something to consider.

The facilities are intrinsically modest however the motel is being run in an excellent manner to a very high standard. i.e. They deliver a lot off a modest capital base ... how smart is that ? Bedroom and bathroom impeccably clean. Bedroom, towels, soap, shampoo etc nicely presented / displayed. Tea and coffee facilities ... just right. Small plastic bottle of fresh milk from reception on arrival, 3 packets of shortbread biscuits. A nice wooden case to present the teabags and biscuits. Good electric kettle that does fit under the basin tap ! Modern split system air con unit. A painter was working outside on my arrival evidencing an intention to keep across the maintenance. This was my return stay for my colleague and me and I regret I didn't discover Links Motel Fern Bay sooner in my work assignment at RAAF Williamtown.

For want of a simple screw in (i.e. not crimp) style "F" Type connector the connection of the TV aerial was intermittent and didn't receive the full bouquet of free to air channels. I managed to fix it and rescan to receive all the digital channels but a $2 F type connector would ensure the coax doesn't slip out again. The basin tap washers are just about due for renewal and maybe the flush pipe seating washer in the toilet cistern to ensure it doesnt run. Window was key locked closed - I generally prefer only to use air con as a last resort.
