Hotel Anel

We have stayed at Hotel Anel previously and I was keen to return. By far the best thing about this hotel is the size and cleanliness of the rooms. The rooms are extremely large, comfortable, spotlessly clean and contain everything you would want, including jacuzzi baths, radios, the biggest bed you’ll ever sleep in, and blackout curtains. If you are lucky you’ll get a large balcony overlooking the front street. The pool is nice and although we didn’t use it the gym looks well equipped. The hotel is extremely well located a few minute walk from the center of Sofia.

There are extra charges for almost everything - sauna, steam room, breakfast, parking. For a 5-star hotel I’d have hoped for everything to be included in the price. As a result, we didn’t use the facilities in the spa nor did we have breakfast as we felt we had paid a reasonable price for the room and so felt it should’ve been included. I also went for a swim and around 6 small children came for a swimming class. Nothing against that, but would’ve been nice to know so I could’ve planned to swim at a quieter time as it wasn’t possible with kids learning in the same pool which isn’t huge.

Comfortable, quiet and warm rooms which was very important for our stay with a kid there. Room service is at high level too!

The receptionist refused to issue us an invoice, nevertheless I explicitly declared one in the form of the reservation :( As far as we have been very regular guests of the hotel it was for the first time and without any reasonable explanation!! He told that he does not issue invoices over Booking.com reservations, which is an absurd! Separately - glasses in the room that were under cellophane were dirty, greasy and unlucky :( We are a bit disappointed comparing our previous stayings there!

Great location only 5-10 min walk to the city. Excellent that they have parking (you just have to reserve). The breakfast is great with lots of hot food and expensive fruit! The staff are nice and very helpful. wifi worked well. Mini fridge in the room was much appreciated.

The reception and common areas smell strongly of cigarette smoke. The gym didn’t open till 9am, which is far too late. We paid for a double room and received 2 singles pushed together with no mattress topped to bridge the gap - I know it is common to push 2 beds together but normally they should put a topper on so you don’t feel the ridge.

Money wise, big size of the room, cleaning, nice bath with a pressure water, location, and etc.

There were a lot of statues and are pictures which they made us unhappy.

This place takes a unique and distinctive approach to its decor rather than a crowd-pleasing one, so it's going to appeal to some and turn others off, but I loved it. The location is good - walkable from the main station and from the city centre with good local provisions. The staff member who checked me in was charming. I didn't make much use of the facilities other than the restaurant for a couple of beers and the WiFi, which was stable and reasonably fast.

The kitchenette with two-ring hob in my room had not a single pot, pan, knife, fork, plate, bowl, etc. Really makes a mockery of having a kitchenette unless you travel with your own cookware. Clearly just done to be able to claim to provide a facility that they really don't. Annoyed me to check into a five-star hotel with a pool, and then to have to pay extra to use it.

This hotel has a lot of art. The rooms are spacious and actually look better than in the picture. The bath was fantastic and the water pressure was the strongest I have felt in years (I guess Bulgaria doesn’t have water restriction yet). The beds are comfortable. There are 2 metro stops near the hotel and the centre of Sofia is a 7mins walk away.

There is a casino downstairs that is poorly ventilated and EVERYONE SMOKES in Bulgaria. So the lobby stinks. I walked through the casino and had to wash my clothes. I got a hint of smoke a few times on my level. I suspect guests and staff frequently smoke inside. I was quoted 9 euros for breakfast on arrival therefore chose to have it. On check out, I was charged nearly double and “nothing could be done” due to the automatic system. The breakfast is NOT worth this, there are so many cafés around that are much cheaper. Some of the staff are friendly, some less so.

I've come to hotel Anel before and that's why I've booked it again when visiting with my boyfriend. Bed was comfortable and size of the room is great - lots of space and we love the old style room, plus all the art work. Bathroom is gorgeous.

Compared to previous time I was slightly disappointed as breakfast seemed more of quickly bought things from the store, barely any hot food. Coffee is now paid if you exceed allocated amount, my boyfriend wanted to use the fitness that was paid as well - 10lv. It seem to me we got little to none value for the money spent as usually all these facilities are included in other 5 even 4 star hotels.

A good hotel. Rooms are very large. I had a small balcony with an odd view but I probably would've appreciated it in the summer (I stayed in December). Beds were very large and comfortable. I'd asked for a quiet room and it certainly could have been quiet were it not for inconsiderate boozy blokes stumbling and shouting in the suite opposite at 3 and 4am! Not the fault of the hotel though. Two of the four nights stay were peaceful. The gym has everything you need and was generally quiet. The pool is nice but feels full with four people in it as it's quite narrow. The decor of the hotel isn't to my taste, it's quite dark and oppressive for me. Good breakfast. The staff are helpful and hardworking. A special shout-out for Nikolay Boychev in reception who was really helpful, provided great suggestions and made bookings for me too - much appreciated. The location is great for getting back and forth to the airport (M4 yellow line to Serdika), costs less than £1 and takes about 30 minutes. It's also easy to walk to various sites from the hotel. I'd return to this hotel if I return to Sofia - it would be nice to visit in summer.

Decor a bit oppressive. Noisy guests (not the hotel's fault).

We liked almost everything about our stay there. The room was so big, I was really surprised. The beds are comfortable. Big bathroom. Good heating in rooms, so nice to come back from cold weather outside. There is a kattle in the room with tea bags as well as a coffee machine. Good breakfast choices: cheese, cold cuts, tea, coffee, cereals, fruits, yogurt. Inside the hotel there are beautiful art articles everywhere, pictures and sculptures. Very nice And just 10 minutes walk from the center, and SRDK metro station. Good choice to stay

Just small maintenance things, like hot tub in the room didn't work, and cleaning details under the bed dust.

The room was beautiful, roomy and great for working

There is a casino on the ground floor full of people smoking and gambling Gambling is a serious problem in this country with a high percentage of gambling addicts so it was sad to see it almost everywhere especially in a hotel that seemed quite classy - the casino was not The food in Bulgaria is not the best but the restaurant was okay - not the same standard as you’d get in a 5 star in UK though They charged money for things like ironing (they won’t let you have an iron) and sauna use You can’t use the pool without a cap and they charge for that too So not sure it’s 5 star when they charge extra for so much
