Coco-Mat Hotel Athens

We had an amazing stay, the hotel is located on a lively big street so we always felt safe coming back in the evening. The location is great, walking distance to the national park and the square, you can also easily walk to Plaka since it’s downhill, but there is also a metro station nearby that makes everything easily reachable. The hotel itself was super nice as well, very clean, the room was nicely decorated, when we arrived we got a free upgrade to a room with a balcony, which was greatly appreciated. Although the balcony was looking over the street there was no noise at night, so we slept with no issues. The beds were super comfortable as well. The staff has been extremely nice and helpful. We were able to visit the pool (located at their other hotel just a few minutes away) and the breakfast was amazing! Overall would recommend this hotel to everyone!

Location is fabulous (and super safe) near an excellent seafood restaurant and all sorts of shops, bars in stylish Kolonaki. Easy walk into Pagrati or Lycabetus and more. Fun, hip, with an amazing breakfast and nicely appointed rooms.

Wonderful! Coco Mat Hotel Athens is a charming small hotel in an upscale residential neighborhood. It was quiet and comfortable and very clean. The breakfast was EXCEPTIONAL. Honeycomb, gorgeous pastries, bread, greek yogurt, and cold meats, fab coffees. It is a couple blocks to Evangelismo metro station and a very short walk to restaurants, nicer stores, sidewalk cafes, and maybe 10 min walk to Syntagma square. There is a tiny but delightful sunny rooftop and you can see the Acropolis when you look to the right, and a view of the city since you are uphill. They make fantastic fresh juices out of a street-side mini counter that are BOGO when you stay at the hotel. Your juice barista will concoct a blend and you place your cup inside to catch it, so adorable. There is Cocomat, a home store for sheets and so on, at the main level and the hotel is above it. I actually researched the OTHER sister hotel, Coco Mat Athens BC and thought I was booking that one, so double check, the names are so similar!! Coco Mat Athens BC is RIGHT next to the Acropolis and Acropolis museum. It's a bigger hotel than I stayed at, but not huge, and with a fabulous rooftop and pool and bar. Our friends were there. We tried to move and the hotel would have let us change, if there had been availability, but there was not. That neighborhood is thick with tourists and the rooms are smaller. More touristy shops. The view cannot be beat though. Our tour guide told us that CocoMat Athens BC might NOT have it's fabulous rooftop much longer, as they didn't follow some zoning regulations meant to keep views of the Acropolis the same for all of the city, built it too tall, and they're involved in some legal battles, so be sure to check on the status of that before you book, it could change.

The names are too similar and that caused confusion.

The location is brilliant it is close enough to everything but in a very nice and relaxed part of town! All the really nice stores are a stones throw away, there are tons of eateries nearby! The staff are incredibly nice and helpful. Stayed in the urban suite which has a cute balcony which catches sun through the day! Most importantly- if there is a choice between this and Coco Mat Athens BC - CHOOSE THIS ONE! We stayed at BC after this one (as it was higher star rated) the room was horrendous, no WiFi in the tiny weird wing we were staying in, faced the hertz rental, and all for a lot more money. Additionally BC - the area is really busy and the only worthwhile extra is the rooftop bar (worth it for drinks only!) but even then you can see the Acropolis from this hotel’s rooftop and overall it’s a WAY better property.

No pool!

There is VERY little about this hotel that we didn't like. It's super comfortable with well designed rooms, excellently located, very friendly and helpful staff. The hotel chain has its roots in a successful mattress/pillow company called CocoMat. The hotel "lobby" is essentially a beautiful retail store with a hotel integrated into it. It's a bit odd when you first walk in because you are basically going into a really cool home decor store with really nice and high-end bedding and other home accessories. Once you check in and get to your room, the room itself features a lot of the same products, including the mattress, the pillows, the slippers, etc so you get to try everything out as a hotel guest -- and, if you like the stuff, you can buy or get a discount on those things. Truly a unique and fun hotel experience but none of it takes away from it being a very good stay. Probably the best sleep we had the whole trip. The hotel is located in the middle of the very swanky Kolonaki district of Athens so there are great eateries and shops all around.

I can't say that this was a huge deal, but having to go through a store to get to the registration desk is a bit unusual and it isn't made clear for first time arrivals where you need to go to check in, especially during a normal shopping day when customers are also coming into the store. The staff was great about helping us, but for someone coming in, it can be a bit confusing. Keep in mind, this is a popular area so rooms on the street side might have some street noise from late night revelers especially on the weekends. Also, there are at least 4 CocoMat Properties in Athens. Be sure you know which one you are booking and where it is before you arrive to Athens so you go to the correct one.

Everything, but the professionalism and attention of the staff is second to none. The breakfast was very plentiful with so much choice and high quality. The location made for inexpensive travel throughout the city centre. 13 days later, the staff welcomed us back and remembered our names. The welcome bag of orange juice, water, sparkling water, coke and beer is a very nice touch. Would definitely return.

The dim lighting in the room makes it difficult for shaving. A face cloth would be a nice addition.

This is a dream hotel. We loved everything about our stay and were sad to go. The location. The room. The aesthetic. The attention to detail and the exceptional customer service. There is nothing we didn’t like about the hotel - and the staff were exceptional - especially the chef and Gerard - who works at the roof top bar. We will definitely come back. Oh did o mention the fantastic breakfast and the lovely products - shampoo, conditioner, body wash provided - those are huge pluses. Being right near kolonaki square meant it was really convenient to get around also.

Loved everything about the hotel. Athenian friends had told us to stay at the Coco-Mat because it is super cool and in the trendiest part of town. They were spot on. The idea of a bedroom furniture maker combining the store with a hotel may sound strange, but it works perfectly. We have never slept in such a comfortable bed with such eco friendly accessories. And they give you the option to buy the actual bed too! We were tempted but getting it to Buenos Aires would really have been taking things too far! The staff were all incredibly friendly and obliging. They will put your breakfast order together in the restaurant/bar downstairs and bring it to your room (or the roof terrace with the great view) for no charge at all! Nothing was too much trouble and everybody seemed so happy to see us! A real pleasure. And the hotel is indeed located in a lovely, trendy, friendly part of town. Just 10 minutes walk from Syntagma Square which is the center for getting to all the famous places which I'm sure you already know about. And there are masses of great small restaurants just a few meters from the hotel door. Great food, plenty of smart young Athenians, friendly service and not expensive. What more can you ask for! Oh, and by the way you are only a short walk from the National Art Gallery (well with a visit for its architecture alone, and a very well curated execution of Greek paintings arranged in 3 floors according to period) and its recently opened restaurant with a fabulous view of the city, the Acropolis and the sea beyond Piraeus. All in all a great experience. Athens is a fabulous small city and the Coco-Mat definitely the cool place to stay.

There was nothing I didn't like really - though I would point out that the rooms are designed for modern, lightly burdened short-stay travelers who don't need drawer space. I was on an extended trip visiting family and friends all around Europe and therefore we had a couple of big suitcases as well as carry-ons which took up a lot of floor space and had to be opened daily. But I wouldn't let this put me off on a future trip; I'll just travel lighter!

The hotel is hidden behind the frontage of the Coco Matt furniture store. The staff are very friendly and extremely helpful. There is a great breakfast offering with very fresh and quality sourced food items. Fresh honey and the Greek yoghurt are superb! The (smart) location (Kolonaki) is another plus with a range of excellent neighbourhood restaurants and bars nearby and just a short walk to Syntagma Square. Rooms are modern with lots of electrical sockets and a full range of toiletries in the bathrooms. Hot water from the showers is constant throughout the day.

Not all the rooms have a window which makes for a very dark room needing the lights on all the time even on a sunny day. There is a roof terrace but surprisingly the hotel doesn't make the most of this by offering refreshments or seating directly from the roof terrace (You can carry them up to the terrace from the basement breakfast area). There is no bar. It would be preferable to dispense with the complimentary refreshment bag given to guests on arrival and have complimentary bottles of water available in guest rooms at all times as is common in most hotels. It's a nice touch but not practical.
