A very cosy hotel with a great welcome, very nice bar (and barlady) and absolutely brilliantly located bang in the centre of the old town of Lucca. Good parking. Good breakfast - the fruit was delicious which often isn't the case. The room was silent, dark and warm.

The room, while nice and big was quite dated, especially the bathroom. Old plastic flowers were really not good and some of the furniture could be replaced. They could do with zipping the twin beds together when making a double otherwise you fall through the middle, especially as the sheets weren't big enough to tuck in properly! The real shame was the shower (cheap riser over the bath) was barely warm which isn't good (my shower was not even pleasant) but when we were told "the hotel's full" as an excuse this isn't acceptable in a four star hotel. That was the only gripe, otherwise it's really nice.

The staff is very professional and friendly. The hotel is well-located just inside the city walls. The breakfast was of high quality. The room we had was large and comfortable.

This was not a problem for us but be aware that the parking is a little tricky. There is a shared entrance to hotel parking and police station parking at Piazzale Giuseppe Verdi, 1. Naturally, you'll want to use the hotel parking straight in and to the left. You'll need to leave your car key with reception in case the car needs to be moved during your stay. We were happy to park once and not use the car again until we departed.

If you're staying in Lucca and exploring Tuscany, this is an ideal property. Located within the wall of the historic city, you can walk to all that Lucca has to offer. We were also able to park our car adjacent to the property and it was easily accessible for us to come and go as we visited other towns in the area. The staff were very friendly and helpful, and lent us an umbrella on a very rainy day. Our room was HUGE and decorated in the beautiful style of a grand old hotel. We would definitely stay here again.

Breakfast was fantastic. The buffet had very fresh produce and you could order eggs if you didn't want the scrambled eggs that were available. The hotel is located about 15mins from the train station, but the bus station is also located closer at the end of the road from where there is a bus that takes you to Pisa. Lucca itself is lovely and there were many restaurants you could visit within a short walking distance although I'd recommend you book as many were full.

Our room was on the top floor and was very spacious, although a little warm at night. If you kept the windows open you could hear the noise from the street below. There was air conditioning available though.

Fantastic hotel in a nice part of Lucca. Excellent staff - The man on reception in the evening and in the morning was extremely polite and helpful. Excellent room. Nothing bad to say about it. The night before I stayed in a hotel in Florence and there I had a terrible night with little sleep due to the noise (inside and outside the hotel). The San Luca Palace was the complete opposite. Quiet and very comfortable room. I highly recommend the San Luca Palace.

The breakfast was superb and included in the price. There were a few niggles with the room, such as a fridge that didn’t work and a broken shower head, but these were dealt with efficiently and politely. We were moved to another room. The hotel had free pedal cycles to explore Lucca which we used to escape the crowds and cycle upon and around the wall of the city.

The bathrooms and decor are a little dated. No outside garden area.

The location was perfect only a short stroll to the main places of interest, shopping and restaurants are a plenty. The breakfast supplied was good and enough for us. Some have stated the rooms to be dated but I wasn’t fazed it was appropriate, comfortable and very spacious. When compared with the UK where we had just come from it was definitely better value for money and actually cheaper. I’d have no hesitation going back this hotel.

I can rate this hotel highly enough! I have a very difficult personal problem arise when I first arrived at the hotel. The team at the hotel were extraordinary at helping me resolve the matter. They were professional and gracious and so generous with their time. The hotel is very comfortable, lovely breakfast, nice bar and excellent location! We couldn’t have asked for more!

Nothing, all good

The breakfast was good and the staff was always on hand to provide anything that you couldn't find. The bed & bedroom was comfortable and clean, the hotel was in a very quiet location that gives you every chance of a good nights sleep.

The only downside for me was the selection at breakfast but being English our taste at breakfast differs from the rest of Europe so no big issue.
