Grand Hotel Downtown

On arrival in Amsterdam, we had booked a Ziptransfer to our hotel...my advice would be not to bother.....thats a review for another day!!! There are loads of taxis outside the airport....beware to use a registered taxi as there are many men, holding up taxi signs who are using their own cars and charge whatever they want! The hotel rooms are very small but very clean and the bathroom had gorgeous underfloor heated tiles which were so nice underfoot. There was a selection of toiletries, tea & coffee making facilities in the room, a mini bar (not stocked, except with 2 bottles of complimentary water), a large smart TV, so we could watch Netflix and best of all sockets on both sides of the bed, which is nearly unheard of in any hotel!! The breakfast buffet was fantastic with a choice of hot (eggs, sausage, pancakes, waffles, beans, potatoe circles) and cold (selection of cold meats, cheeses, yoghurt, fruit etc) food every day and a good range of breads and pastries, jams, spreads etc. Staff were helpful, accommodating and super friendly. We found the location to be perfect. It's a bit outside the buzz of the city but we loved that it was really quiet at night. There is a tram stop a few minutes walk away. We bought a 3 day ticket, costing €20 each, and made great use of it. Would highly recommend getting one! We got a taxi to the train station the day we were leaving which was €25 but it was raining and we were getting the train to Paris so it was worth it to not be soaked!

The bed was big but the mattress was very soft and the pillows were quite hard so woke up with a stiff neck and sore back most mornings....however this is just preference....I'm used to a hard mattress and softer pillow!

The location is nice, the reception was very friendly and polite. They let me stay in the parking 2 or 3 hours longer. They where quick and professional as i like it. Bathroom and wood-decor was very beautiful. It was quiet ! Climatisation was good, parking was good. I am very happy that i stayed at this hotel ! Only thing i missed was bluetooth music speakers. :D some (low-budget) hotels have these now, and it is always a pleasure. i Think those bluetooth speakers might be more important than a TV for people of younger generations ? Also the bed was very big and comfortable, which I enjoyed ! Well, down the line, i have to say that this hotel was great and what touched me the most was the kindlyness of the employees and receptionnists. Thank you ! :)

the bathroom could have been a little cleaner, or maybe it was just a little bit old, but for the price i paid, i can totally understand that ! it was a good experience at your hotel. Thank you !

Room could of been a bit more clean other than that would highly recommend.staff was really helpful with a query’s we had.we nice located and walk to Amsterdam central wasn’t too bad either over the views you see on the way 10/10

What an amazing room!!! We had the penthouse on the 6th floor (with elevator), a huge room with a king size bed, super comfortable and great pillows. The room has blackout curtains, a couch, a desk and chair, mini fridge, espresso machine, kettle, coffee/tea. Ropes/slippers, safe, smart TV, AC and a huge balcony with a fantastic view. It has a double lock entry, so very secure. A very large bathroom with a huge bathtub and shower, great hot water water pressure, toiletries, hair dryer. Wi-Fi worked perfectly and the staff is very friendly and will see to all your needs, they really go out of their way to accomplish this. The hotel is on the edge of city center, only a 10 minute walk to Rijksmuseum and hop on hop off bus/boat. You can get all the attraction tickets at the front desk. Public transportation is right in front of hotel. We recommend this hotel and stay here again.

Everything was great.

I loved everything about Grand Hotel Downtown! The staff members are extremely polite and willing to help at any given moment. The hotel itself is very comfortable, very modern, has an elevator and the room we stayed in was more than we expected to stay in. It had a bunch of space, was packed with everything you could possibly need, very clean, we had a gigantic balcony and a breathtaking view. The location of the hotel is perfect. You have bars, cafes and restaurants literally all around the area and you're about 15 minutes away from the Leidsplein area. If you don't have any problem with walking, you are not that far away from any area of Amsterdam, even to Dam Square it took us about 20-22 minutes. Overall, I will definitely return!

The only "bad" thing I got to say is specific to the room we stayed in, which is the Penthouse Suite . The balcony of the room is a shared balcony between 3 rooms. There's no wall separating the areas, only a low fence, so you're basically sitting outside with the other guests. Personally, it didn't bother me too much. The other guests were nice people, and we even had some small talk between one another, just some heads up for some people booking that room.

Room was great, stayed in penthouse suite, comfy beds, spacious terrace and big bathroom with bath and separate shower. Liked the added touches of a dressing gown and slippers. It was my birthday and my husband added a 'birthday package' for me which included balloons in the room, a couple of cokes and a birthday cake which was really yummy. My husband enjoyed the breakfast selection. Room was cleaned on second day with fresh towels provided.

Location was a bit further from the city centre than I would have liked, we were only there a couple of days so took time to get used to trams and what numbers to get etc. Tram drivers are very helpful though. If you fancy a walk it would take around 30 minutes. Check in took quite a while even though I did check in online. Receptionist was friendly and welcoming though. We was advised we would get chocolates and rose petals too as part of the birthday package but this didn't happen so not worth the price of the add on due to the missing items. Coffee in the room was vile. Thankfully a Starbucks is not too far (along with many other coffee shops..!)

The roof top terrace was fabulous with stunning views of Amsterdam. Great area with plenty of places to eat and shop near by. All modes of transport within easy reach of hotel.

Balcony overlooking the city was great. Location is walkable distance to Amsterdam Central and Leidseplein or various tram stops 2mins away. Some nice food places across the road / on same street. Staff were very friendly and accommodating. Bed was extremely comfy and TV has Netflix and YouTube. Fridge in room with free water was a nice touch as well as slippers and dressing gowns.

Key card didn't seem to work on main entrance but reception is 24/7 so no issues. Some of interior was a bit worn but overall lovely room and bathroom. Sadly we only had 1 sachet of sugar.
