Huygens Place Amsterdam

A lovely hotel at a great location. The beautiful Vondelpark is just a couple minutes away and the city centre is not far either, just a few minutes by the public transport or a nice walk over the many canals. Our room was on the 4th floor and while it was facing the busy street, we didn't mind it at all. Since the streets in the city all look really nice, we enjoyed the view. All the staff at the reception were super friendly and helpful, as was the cleaning maid we met a couple times. The room was clean and was tidied up every day, all the necessary hygienic products were included, had a tiny fridge, and above all that there were also comfortable slippers, an iron and ironing board for those who might need it, and a few small helpful kits (vanity, sewing and shoe polishing). We appreciated the free small bottle of wine and bottles of water and especially the coffee machine and the coffee and tea that were refilled every day. The hotel also has a nice terrace where you can relax with a cup of coffee or tea any time. Overall our stay was excellent!

The hotel was in an excellent position for sightseeing and trams. It was very clean and the staff really friendly. Good size rooms. We also had a complementary small bottle of wine, water and 2 very lovely chocolates, a great start to any holiday!!!

Our room did not have a secondary set of windows so the sound of traffic was very loud, but I don't think you can help that in a city. The hotel had already placed ear plugs in the room, so not really a complaint, more just something to be aware of.

The property is in a great spot, has a wonderful private patio area, and is kept up very well. The staff are amazing; helpful and very friendly.

The elevator was not working so I needed to take the stairs (the exercise did me good).

The room was cosy and the bed so comfortable. Nice details, clean and quiet. Staff was welcoming and friendly. Location excellent although not smack in the centre. Close to shops, cafes, restaurants and tram. Recommend!

Everything! The bed was comfortable, we slept well, the location is perfect. We didn't have breakfast included, but there are plenty bars and cafes to have it around. The staff was very helpful.

The bathroom is a bit too small and maybe they can improve the sound proof in the room. It wasn't super bad but it can be better ;)

Proximity to museumplein and leidseplein is great. Trams outside (fastest way from schipol is no1 from lelylan) It's Amsterdam so there are going to be stairs.. The lift is tiny. You can squeeze 2 people in, just (and if its working). If you can't do stairs/narrow walkways this is not the hotel for you... And perhaps rethink amsterdam too! Don't try for taxi/uber to pickup/dropoff here. Aim for vondelstraat which is just up the road. The room was fine. There is noise from rooms above, but you'll live. Staff were friendly. Checkin and out were a breeze. By far the best thing is the garden area. Great size to relax in, and a real haven. There are a couple of rooms in the garden. These have their own table/chairs. If you're in these, then you'd better not be concerned with smoke. Overall. Happy with the place. Prices are nuts in general.

the breakfast had to be booked in advance (please keep it in mind), the room had 2 floors with stairs and I wasn’t notified about that, it was hard to manage while you are drunk)

The room was quite large by European standards and the bed was unusually comfortable. The breakfast was very good--excellent croissants!--and felt well worth the 18 euro per person charge. Every staff member we saw on the front desk was friendly and helpful. Our room overlooked the very attractive courtyard and added to our enjoyment, though rain limited the amount of time we spent there. The hotel is directly on the #3 tram line and is a half-mile, straight-line walk to the museum campus. Really great, and we will stay there again when in Amsterdam.

The only thing we didn't like was that the shower/bathroom floor was pretty slippery. No falls but a couple of near-misses. Just keep that floor topmost in your mind when showering, and don't make any sudden moves!

Dobie greeted us like long lost friends when we checked in. Every time we saw him he inquired about our day. He made great suggestions for dining and transportation. The room was comfortable over the five nights we stayed. It had a nice sitting area. It had restaurants, groceries, transportation, and museums close by and wasn't too far from the train station (although we took a cab with luggage). The rest of the staff was friendly and helpful. There was a nice courtyard off the lobby. The wifi worked well.

The hotel is built in three sections with different elevations. There is no way to get to our room without traversing 8 stairs, so it would be totally unsuitable for someone in a wheelchair (although they might have wheelchair accessible rooms).

My partner and I have stayed in Amsterdam a good few times and Huygens was by far our favourite place we’ve ever stayed. The interior is beautiful and the rooms are spacious and very comfortable. They kindly upgraded us to a Garden Room which looks out onto the courtyard and it was just so peaceful. The staff are extremely friendly and accommodating, you can’t ask for more! We actually had a very late departing flight and they extended our checkout time and allowed us to stay in the hotel and use facilities which made our wait very comfortable. The location is also fantastic, so many nice restaurants and your a short walk from everything. Honestly we enjoyed our trip so much and would stay in Huygens again and again!

The only thing I can fault is the flies out in the courtyard would sometimes come into the room (but it was humid and summer so can’t do much about it).
