Queen's Day 1933 (24) was my first Queen's Day. April 27, 2023 (55) King's Day 2023 was my most recent. After 30 years of traveling to Amsterdam and currently visiting 3-4 times per year, I love the location: The Overtoom area is nice, a 5-minute walk to the Vondel Park, The Leidseplein (square). Plenty of food, restaurants, drinks, coffee, pastries and there is a Supermarket directly underneath the hotel. There is a Starbuck's nearby, but may I recommend STACH. Great Coffee. The tram stops in front of this property, and you may travel to many parts of the city by tram from here. Do be advised for the unexpected: Cash is NOT always King in Amsterdam. Be prepared to have and use credit cards at any time. It used to be a smoker's hotel, but I have never smelled any old wet damp, smoking smell inside. Rooms with balcony are allowed to smoke on the balcony ONLY. If you attempt to SMOKE in your room and the alarm goes off, it's 160.00 Euros and possible being booted out. The staff is TOO nice, to remind you. There is a terrace near reception that has a nice place to smoke what you like outside until 23:00 hours. Cool place to meet or run into other traveling guests. Being a bit older now, I can settle for what is practical. I don't need Royal Hotel accommodation. I don't go on holiday to stay in my room. I like and prefer this place so much, that I normally book the accommodation and then book flights to match those days. It is quite a popular place.

Hmmm, I am usually not a fan of early morning breakfast, so I go to places nearby with much larger selections. 8-10 AM is a reasonable breakfast time. Breakfast? Call it continental. Cold cuts, breads, cereal, fruit, coffee, tea, water, juices, milk, granola/musli, but due to fire safety regulations there isn't a toaster for the bread. Yeah, big disappointment. But if that was the least of my dislikes, that's good. Rooms could use some extra amenities, but of personal choice. More counter space room in the toilet for items; lotions, shower gels, etc.

The breakfast is good. The room was clean. The location is excellent, with a train/tram stop in front of the door, from which you can reach easily the airport (via Lelylan station) and the central station (changing). The Museum Plein within walking distance, and the centre too. A market in the same building is very useful.

The room, and bathroom, are very basic. The sink is quite small and uncomfortable and the shower doesn't have a plexiglass cabin ad a mat. I wasn't able to make the TV work, but no problem, I would not have understood anything in Dutch!

Clean and safe space. Hotel Manager was very friendly, even allowing us to enjoy an extra breakfast when we arrived early on the first day. Food was very nice, lobby cat was friendly, location was outstanding. Flowers in the lobby and sitting area were gorgeous. Just a short walk to museums, Vondelpark and other sights. Showers were no frills, but hot water did not ever run out even though we shared the hotel with a women's gymnastics team.

No soap in the bathroom. Only provided 1 towel per guest. Would have liked extra towel to share for bathroom floor. Required 3 different keys to get to room -- which was wonderfully safe, but the combination was tricky for my children to use. Traffic noise very loud in the room due to close proximity to tram and a beeping crosswalk. This was not an issue for us, but just an FYI for other travelers -- hotel is stacked vertically, so requires walking up quite a few steps to get to rooms. Would not be a good choice for individuals that can't navigate at least 50-100 steps (with your luggage).

It was a great stay! For this price- it's an unbeatable accommodation. Everybody was really friendly; my room was facing the back, with a balcony, so I had very quiet and relaxing nights. The breakfast was good, the location just perfect! The bed was perfect, not too soft, all was clean, and there was a daily roomservice. In the same building, there's a big supermarket, two tram stops are one and two steps away, and you can easily walk to the city centre, Vondelpark or the museum quarter. Sure, it's no luxury, but for anybody who wants to have a perfect stay without paying a fortune, it's highly recommended! I am 1000% sure, that I will stay here when I come back to Amsterdam. Thanks a lot?

All was fine! If being picky: reading lights at both sides of the bed would be great... But this doesn't put a shadow on an overall great stay.

The price had breakfast included and it was really good -they had a variation of juices, cooked eggs, a celection of cereals and clean tables (which is always important to me). The room was very "basic", but not in a bad way. I was only staying for a night because of a concert (and the hotel was in perfect walking distance to 2 common concert-venues in Amsterdam), so it was important it was clean and had a comfortable bed. And the staff was really nice - I arrived fairly early, I think nearly 2hrs before the usual check-in time but they made that earlier check-in possible, which helped me a lot.

The shower was in the room, which was something new for me, but it was clean, so all good. The sink on the other hand was tiny - I could make it work, but I nearly flooded the whole bathroom while washing my face and removing my makeup...

Loved the helpful staff, the location and Bentley the cat. The hotel is right above a convenience store and has a good tram link outside the front door, this was very handy for accessing Amsterdam quickly. Bentley the cat is such a cutie gave him plenty of strokes when passing through reception, as a cat lover this was a great bonus to the hotel. Rooms were clean and warm. Facilities basic and bathroom shared but we knew this on booking and was what we were looking for. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would definitely be back.

Noisy neighbours in the next room but this wasn't the hotels fault. Spoke to the staff who had a word with them. Thanks for speaking to them so promptly.

Employees were really nice with always smiling faces and try to help for anything. The room and otel were pretty good for this price and really safe for alone travellers like me. The breakfast made me so happy, it was satisfying and delicious. The location is really central and every place I visited in Amsterdam was within walking distance so did not even need to use public transport. I just met the blonde cat at the reception desk and I am in love with how friendly (s)he is, love it! I definitely recommend the hotel and thanks for everything.

There is only one bathroom and toilet for each floor and you can hear everything from other rooms, it was like living in the same apartment with other guests. It is so normal for Amsterdam buildings, guess. Also guests were so respectful and nobody made noises after midnight, so it was so okay.

Excellent location, very close to the city centre and all of the main attractions. Having a tram station right outside the hotel is so convenient. Staff were all very friendly and very willing to help. Although it's shared bathroom but your are only sharing it with 1 other room. The reception area have an open area perfect for socialising, and the cherry on top they have the cutest hotel cat!

The stairs are narrow and steeps so anyone with big luggage needs to be aware of this. Breakfast choices was very minimal but standard, however would prefer if there was a toaster. Wi-Fi does get very slow at night as all the guests are using it.

Staff are super friendly. Kindly let us store our luggage as we arrived earlier than check in. Very convenient location, right next to a tram stop which makes getting to and from central a breeze. Good sized room. Very good value for money.

We were in a room facing the main street and it was very, very loud outside. Impossible to sleep with the windows open, which made sleeping pretty uncomfortable in the hot weather. Not much the hotel can do but a fan was kindly provided in the room however. Bring ear buds. Didn't bother us but worth pointing out -- the place has A LOT of steep stairs. Didn't bother us but worth noting for less able travellers.

The connection to RAI exhibition centre for me was most important - brilliant. Tram stops outside hotel, both ways -3 stops, connects to metro, 2 stops - all the stress of getting across Amsterdam removed. Perfect!! Hotel staff were very pleasant, location very good for local shops and great local cafe bar to watch the world go by. Will make this my 'go-to' hotel for all future trips ( so, please - no-one else book it when I'm going!! Joking obvs.) Paul

You get what you pay for....so at top of building on sunny day, rear side soaks up the heat and with no air con....can be a bit hard to sleep. Room is very basic, and really only for sleeping - functional. But overall, not enough of an issue to outweigh all the other benefits.
