We had booked a 1 bedroom self contained apartment, which was a short distance away from the Inn and town centre, well located near to a Co-op and the railway station. The instructions to get there and inside were detailed. The place was modern, spotless with every appliance necessary for cooking and comfort. The shower was amazing, as was the bed. We did not meet our host, but the welcome pack and information was very well written and welcoming, asking if we did have a problem then to get in touch. We didn’t and we had a fantastic stay. I would like to give it an 11.

You get a lovely breakfast with plenty of choice which includes excellent coffee. Very central location with plenty of parking nearby. Although it was so central, we found the room nice and quiet. The bar is lovely and I was pleased to see it was dog friendly for future reference.

If you come back late you get locked out if you don't take a key, which you have to ask for especially. This happened to us as we were at a mid-week wedding. I felt awful having to make a phone call and drag someone out at almost midnight to let us in. We were told there were signs everywhere, but we honestly hadn't noticed them. I wish we'd just been given a key for the outside door.

Staying in a Crown and Cushion property in Appleby is a fantastic experience. The stay we we in a one bedroom house which was furnished to the highest spec. And only a few steps for the centre of Appleby. Over the past few years we have stayed in 4 more properties run by the Crown and Cushion …all were fantastic and every thing needed was taken care of. I the words of Arnold Sw ..I’ll be back!

Coming home! We were so comfortable in our property we would have liked to have been there longer.

Our stay at the Cushion Bank exceeded our expectations and is excellent value for money. It’s spacious, spotless, and has absolutely everything you need for a self catering stay; from dish washer tabs, pods for the coffee maker to ear buds and tissues in the rooms - all nice little touches that make a difference and show the owners really care about their guests having a good stay. A real hit with the kids was the modern reclinable couch; apparently I need to upgrade ours at home now!

Spotlessly clean. Staff welcoming and friendly. Pub food freshly cooked, and very good.

Loved the room, but....no chairs to sit and watch tv before bed. Uncomfortable for my husband who has a disability. Also when we went in for breakfast at around 10pm, the floor in the tea room was wet, having just been washed. The yellow sign was outside the door, but we didn’t realise how wet the floor was, and my husband, who uses a stick almost lost his footing. Fortunately he wasn’t hurt, but perhaps the floor shouldn’t be wetted until after the meal service is over, or guests should be seated in another area.

We stayed in the loft apartment which was great. The pub itself was friendly and decor all round was great. Easy check in / out. A fab location and overall we would definitely stay here again.

The food was good but could have been a little better. I had the steak which was just perfect with the peppercorn sauce but my partner and daughter both had the scampi and both said it was a little wet / watery inside. For breakfast I had the full English which again was great but my partner had scrambled eggs and said they were a bit watery again. Also, we were eating our evening meal in main pub and breakfast in tea room there were flies buzzing around the food in both areas which was somewhat off-putting.

We stayed one night due to attending a wedding near Penrith. We had a spacious, clean and comfortable ensuite double room on the first floor of the pub. The bed was massive and very comfortable. This ancient pub is in an excellent location in the centre of this pretty town and at the weekend we were able to park close by free of charge. The staff are very nice and handled our late arrival without any problems and even rustled up a nice sandwich after normal hours. Nice pint! Breakfast was very good with tasty ingredients.

We didn't ask about it but unless there is an obvious demand for watching sport we suggest turning off the sports TVs in the lovely quiet bar room close to the entrance and in particular the breakfast room.

Location was right in Appleby town, breakfast was nice and staff were really friendly, we stayed in the crown cottage a 2 minute walk from the crown and cushion pub, the cottage was decorated to a high standard with everything you need, it was so relaxing and comfortable, would highly recommend staying here, we will be staying here again but will be staying longer as 2 days weren’t enough

Appleby is a hidden gem, like the Lake District without the crowds. The cottage has been spectacularly refurbished and is within easy walking distance of the town centre. Dinner at the C&C was excellent.

We are a couple of old foggies and it took us a while to figure out how the telly worked, but I guess we'll have to get used to it. Similarly, I struggled with the 'L' shaped sofa.

Great location within Appleby. Great little house. Would definitely recommend for a couple looking for a short break. We had expected there was more to Appleby, it's very small but enjoyed some lovely walks. Had a nice pub meal in the Crown and Cushion, dog welcome, great landlord and staff.

Only downside for us was the shared backyard so couldn't let the dog out off lead. No biggie though .
