Had a superb 2 night break. Owners are very friendly and eager to ensure your comfort and satisfaction. Spotlessly clean and well furnished bedrooms and downstairs reception rooms and bar. Restaurant is very comfortable and food cooked to perfection by Steve owner, generous portions and everything sourced locally. We shall return and be happy to recommend to friends and family. Excellent location and plenty of parking spaces.

Everything was to our satisfaction and nothing to improve upon.

We stayed at the black swan for 3 nights and used it as a base to travel out around the Lake District. Steve and Jacky were very welcoming and there was always laughing and joy in the air. It has a really homely feel to it throughout our stay. The rooms are lovely and have everything you would need, the bed was very comfortable after long walks and activities. The breakfast was amazing and a perfect start to an active day. A superb place to stay, relax and enjoy everything the Lake District has to offer. Thank you Jacky & Steve

There wasn’t anything not to like!

This beautiful pub set in a terrific landscape was a wonderful find! We had a lovely welcome from the hosts, even though we arrived a bit early, and our room was clean and bright. The highlight was the evening meal, though - gosh it was wonderful! Beautifully cooked and presented food in an immaculate dining room, we couldn't have asked for better. Breakfast was great, too - I couldn't manage the full breakfast after the dinner the night before, so went for the eggs Benedict - the poached eggs were perfectly cooked, and the portion size was just right!

There was nothing I didn't like about this lovely place, and we will definitely be staying there again when we journey up to Scotland!

Lovely rustic pub with modern improvements. Our room was comfortable although a tad small, as was the en suite bathroom. Our host Jackie was friendly and very helpful. The restaurant was very good with a creative menu well-presented. The breakfasts were also freshly-cooked and good too. The WIFI worked well and there were ample car-parking spaces.

The room was a bit small and lacked a bedside table on one side, and power sockets. There was no provision in the en suite bathroom for personal toiletries. It is quite a walk through the hotel and upstairs to the rooms with luggage.

The Black Swan is run by Steve and Jackie, two of the most lovely and helpful people you will ever meet. In the restaurant Steve is the Chef and his food is fantastic, Evening meals and breakfasts cooked to perfection on hot clean plates. Service is provided by Jackie and her staff, they all work hard and service is polite and not in your face every two minutes. The bar area is lovely and cosy, with a good selection of beers and spirits at reasonable prices.The whole place is spotless and you cannot fault anything at all. Would we go back, Yes 100% without any doubt.

The hosts were really friendly and the food was delicious. We stayed overnight on our way to Bristol from Pitlochry and it was a very convenient and welcome stay. We would definitely book again. A bonus was that there is a National Trust garden less than a mile away so we had a great walk there in their famous orchards. It was also lovely walking around the village after dinner - there were great views.

Very friendly and accommodating hosts who looked after us very well after our nightmare journey down from the isle os Skye that day. Our room (room 1 ‘Pea Top’ was warm, large and comfortable and spotlessly clean. A nice selection of good old fashioned pub grub and portion sizes huge, you won’t go hungry. Very good cooked breakfast and overall, excellent value for money. Recommended.

Nothing

The oiwners were wonderful the meals including breakfast were superb. Our room was large with plenty of storage space and just perfect for our ine night stop to nreak up the drive between Scotland and England. I would deinitely recommend this hotel and would certainly stay again.

Very Homely and cosy. Well looked after by the owners, nothing was to much trouble. Very well maintained property. And the food was superb, good choice on the Menu to suit all tastes. The surrounding area has stunning views, and plenty of places to visit. Lowther Castle is a must. I highly recommend The Black Swan for a great stay in Penrith.

Lovely pub, warm welcome by Jacky. Felt right at home immediately. Rooms are compact but well designed to have every thing we needed including Ensuite bathroom, with toiletries. Food was lovely at evening meal, and I loved that you ordered breakfast the night before so there is no fuss in the morning. Dining tables all set up beautifully, and tables well spaced out so not on top of the other guests. Bar was cosy with coal fire.
