Black Bull Hotel

The room was very nice and comfortable, had a good front room so could see out. Bathroom was well equipped with bath and shower. Bedding was lovely and towels were clean and soft. Would definitely stay again, was very clean and great value.

The only thing we can say is the fact the pub was closed due to Appleby , we understand it’s not the pubs fault but was quite unnerving that nobody was there at all, wasn’t sure what to do regarding check out and we didn’t have any emergency numbers etc. There wasn’t any kind of alternative for lack of breakfast etc as nowhere at all was open so it was very hard to find somewhere to eat and all seemed quite like nobody wanted to be around to help. Again we know it wasn’t the hotels fault as Appleby fair was around so would love to come back when it isn’t :)

nice location lots of information on the local surrounding areas (maps etc) parking outside at the front (could see our car) front room overlooking the street. friendly staff comfortable single beds clean, comfortable bedding nice towels large twin room double window aspect good attempts to lesson the road noise good selection of hot beverages available & biscuits. large tv with Netflix didn’t need to check out until 11am.

four curtains but only one tie back glasses & water container but no water (didn’t notice until late at night). toilet roll holder kept falling off knob missing off the chest of drawers.

Friendly bar staff and helpful when checking into the rooms. The hotel is a historic building so has lovely features, winding stairs and unusual features to rooms. Not modern and square. The twin room we had was freshly decorated, very spacious, and had the most comfortable beds with fresh white linen. Coffee tea and biscuits of a good quality ready to welcome you. I liked it was quiet and so clean and fresh.

Only thing the toilet seat had worked loose so needed tighing...this was only minor and nothing else was a wrong.

We didn't have the breakfast but the evening meals in the bar were very enjoyable. We found the central location to be very useful for us in exploring the town.

The lighting in our room could have been improved by the addition of a second bedside lamp. The exit arrangement from the bedroom area to outside the building was a little confusing and resulted in us getting ourselves locked into an external passageway. Perhaps a sign on the correct exit door would be helpful?

Excellent location right in the centre, and whilst the hotel does not have a car park, there are spaces outside but watch the regulations - not a problem after 5pm. Food in the hotel was very good, freshly cooked and not just standard pub fare.

Shame the hotel does not serve breakfast, but there is a Costa directly opposite which opens at 8am even on a Sunday. Plumbing was a little noisy but at least was quiet overnight so no real issue.

Very brief stop over, booked in, slept and left early, so feel cannot fully rate the hotel. However, greeted and checked in by friendly guy, the beds were very comfortable and there were good facilities in the room. Location was in centre of village with easy parking.

great pub/hotel, run by Jack who mostly looked after everyone by himself, even did the breakfast run for the ones who chose breakfast - deserves a good review x says no parking but lots of on-street parking - no issues at all. - this should be mentioned on the website.

The staff were incredible, I was at a family wedding and was part of the wedding so was unable to check in during the day. I was able to arrive at midnight and my key was ready and waiting and I was checked in when I rang. They were a massive help and removed a lot of stress for the day and I was very impressed with the room.

Very central, we were doing the Coast to Coast, ate drank and slept here. They were also very flexible with the booking, we need to move the booking by 1 night and they accommodated this at no extra charge, even after the payment was made and cancellation had expired.

Nice spot. Fairly basic. Double bed and single in room with bathroom. Above a pub in the main st corner in Kirkby Stephen - ideal for a quick visit.

Window didn’t open. Bit old fashioned - but that’s just the style based on the area and the pub.
