It was welcoming, warm, extremely well and thoughtfully designed, the beds were very comfortable. I liked the emphasis on simplicity, local providers. Also I was very impressed by emphasis on local and eco…the soaps in the bathroom etc. I never felt we were being ripped off or that it felt like a corporate chain with profit as the main driver. I felt that the Westmorland hotel really genuinely wanted to provide the best of local design and produce and really cared about doing something well for the visitor and the local area.

It might have been helpful to have a night light for the bathroom. Otherwise I found it faultless and it met all our expectations

The hotel is in an idyllic spot. The outlook from the restaurant is lovely with the pond & waterfall. Love the open fire in the reception area. Staff were very helpful & polite. Second time we’ve stayed, so know what to expect. Never disappoints.

Not the hotels fault, but a very inconsiderate guest staying in a room opposite us. Obvs didn’t have his key and was banging on his door and calling out to the person inside the room. This was after 10pm and woke us both up. I opened our door to ask him to be a bit more considerate, but he ignored me, then some woman opened his door and he went inside.

Welcoming staff and lovely accommodation. The lounge with a real log fire was very relaxing. The environment in and around the hotel is really pleasant, making use of natural materials reflecting the beautiful countryside all around. Breakfast was excellent, with stunning views across the duck pond to the fells in the background through the large restaurant windows. The room was quiet and comfortable and tastefully decorated. Overall, my stay exceeded my expectations.

My only comment is that the road to get to the hotel from the southbound services (taking you over the motorway) is very dark and hard to see at night. A few lights would be helpful!

There was snow on the ground and it looked luke a cosy ski chalet snd it that vibe inside. Nice staff, especially in restaurant. Lovely toiletries.

If I’m being really picky - there was no iron in the bedroom but there was a trouser press. I wanted to iron a blouse for a meeting. Could possibly have got an iron and board from Reception - I didnt adk. Had a twin bedded room, the bed was very narrow! There was a selection of coffee, tea, hot chocolate, and biscuits but the kettle was a white plastic one / at odds with the rest of the very hunting lodge styled room.

The whole package was exceptional in our experience of many similar hotels. It has the added bonus of being in a most beautiful setting . The room was clean comfortable and the bathroom was superb. It is really difficult to find fault. The evening meal was first class and tasty While the breakfast was just right for the next stage of our journey. All the members of staff went out of their way to make sure that we had a comfortable and happy stay. We hope to visit again in the not too distant future.

We liked everything and the setting was special. There was nothing we did not like or would want to improve.

The location was stunning with easy access to the motorway, the staff were very friendly and accommodating. The food was very good and high quality. Fantastically dog friendly hotel. Room and lounge furnishings were comfortable and stylish

The room could benefit from of a lick of paint to remove stains like coffee and finger prints that we found on the walls and skirtings. The shower was great but could benefit from either shower caps or a separate shower head incase you don't want to wash your hair under the rain shower

Have stayed before - and again found it to be so convenient just off M6 and way better than any other motorway hotel. Just as the Tebay/Westmorland Service stations are in a league apart from all other service stations so is the Westmorland hotel a league apart from your Days Inns! It’s all stone and tweed and log fires. Warm and friendly staff and delicious homemade food.

Only thing I didn’t really like was the new cork tile floor in my bedroom. It felt a bit institutional- but I appreciate it was a more hygienic choice than carpet

It is obvious the owners or the management team are enthusiastic and motivated to provide a personal (not robotic hotel chain speak/processes) service. I felt really welcome and wanted, the staff were all lovely, even the gentleman who was cleaning the windows! The place couldn't be more well presented and cared for. The room and bed were sooo comfortable, the staff so helpful and respectful and how can I put it, just 'care' about doing a good job! I cannot praise it enough. The local produce, the local owned 'feel' to the place made it more than just a quick night stop in an annonymous hotel. I travel up and down from Isle of Harris to London a least 3-4 times a year and will always try and stop at Westmoreland now as it gave me a feeling of 'coming home' and being looked after and valued. I wish I had known about you before!!! Breakfast was great too and the waiter, whose name I can't now recall, made my day so bright and happy, he didn't need to but his manner was so caring and fun and he too obviously takes pride in his job. The receptionist too, maybe she is american or canandian, she was so lovely too, I was so exhausted from a 10 hour drive and she seemed to just lift me up and take care of me to get me in my room and all sorted out. Lovely.

That I can't stay more often!!!

The location I as ideal for travellers and provides a perfect place to rest . The rooms are tastefully appointed. Di Field worked hard to resolve our problems, for which I am very grateful.

IT. I needed to email the property quite a lot due to arrival times of our cycling team. This seem to cause some sort of relay, where I kept getting countless emails. All of which were irrelevant and unnecessary. The new menu was sent but due to the format it was in. To resolve the problem I tried to reorder from menu on website. it turns out that the new menu doesn’t get updated……, very quickly 😳 We are in 2023!

Our room was extremely comfortable and quite large. Very quiet. The window opened wide -- always a plus. The hotel's location in an idyllic setting was pleasing. The bar casual and inviting. The appointments contemporary and lovely to the eye.

Our dinner was, while ambitious with lamb and sides, a bit too sparing for the price. But the wine was excellent, and the lovely view out huge glass windows to the pond, stream and meadow beyond was superb and restful. Breakfast was a disappointment. They offered only a few croissants among the Continental fare, and when those ran out they were not replenished though guests were asking for them!
