Booking online didn't include breakfast so we enquired about this on arrival and treated ourselves to four mornings; it was delicious, each day. Our room overlooked roadworks so this were changed; we'd seen room 6 online months previously and would have chosen this had we been able to, so that was a very pleasant surprise. We certainly hadn't anticipated dining at the hotel repeatedly during our visit, but the menu selection was wonderful and excellently prepared. I sampled a number of the ales during our stay and all were well kept.

Usually there's something, but on this occasion neither my wife nor I could find any fault.

We booked two rooms, a twin room and a double room. On getting there our double room was upgraded to what seemed to be the main bedroom in the hotel, with a king size four poster bed and beautiful decor. There was also a view from the window to the church and the stately home next door. We felt like some important people had stayed in the room before us, which given the hotel's history goes back to 1492 and the distinguished history of the village, they probably had. The twin room was also very nice, though my mother-in-law took a while took a while to get used to the sound of the macerating toilets in some rooms of the hotel which she hadn't encountered before. We had dinner in the pub restaurant which was very nice. We didn't sample the breakfast so I can't comment on that.

There wasn't really anything we didn't like.

Hotel - Pub - Restaurant is cosy and full of character. Eclectic seating, wooden wall panels, layout and ambiance is charming and along with the staff running it, made our stay perfect. Aspall cider is my favourite tipple and the chicken curry with rice, naan and sweet potato fries was excellent especially after coming in from the cold. The two ladies greeting and serving were very welcoming, always made time to check everything was alright for us and never stopped working - making our stay a very enjoyable experience.

The heating didn't come on in the morning which my husband wasn't happy about but there is a phone number available to call at anytime and an extra heater could be arranged. I think we should make allowances as the building is over 500 years old and that in itself is worth being able to spend the night there without all the luxuries we usually expect nowadays.

I needed to check in early due to a wedding starting early and I had to travel from London to get there. The staff were incredibly helpful and let me check in early. Not only that but the building itself is beautiful, with so much character with old beams and high ceilings. The bed was comfy and loved the biscuits in the room! Perfect stay! Thank you!

There was no one at the reception desk when I needed to check out (to be fair it was very early in the morning) but that's all!

The Lion is a beautiful, very old, inn in the middle of a very pretty, quiet village. Our huge room had a four poster bed and large bathroom, both had been very recently decorated in a characterful, comfortable style. The bar/restaurant was very welcoming in the evening.

We hadn’t realised we needed to book breakfast and couldn’t find anyone to ask on the Sunday morning (this was Coronation weekend, and the hotel was very quiet). But a minor thing).

Charming 15th century coaching inn which has lost none of it's charm. Perfect for a nightstop as so close to the A1. Very friendly and welcoming staff. A great pint of beer and probably the best breakfast I've had cooked for me in a long time.

Trying to support more independent businesses so made a welcome change to soulless corporate giants with cut and paste rooms and a plastic breakfast.

If you would like to stay in a traditional, cosy pub near Cambridge, this is the place. The house dates back to the 15th century and is now lovingly run by a young family. The rooms are comfortable and the food, especially the English breakfast, is also very good. A much better alternative to an expensive, modern hotel in the city. You can park right outside the door.

Our room and bathroom was a bit old fashioned but that didn't matter, it had all of the facilities that we have come to expect & the bed was very comfortable. The evening dinner was really tasty, we enjoyed the chicken curry very much. And the full English breakfast was great it had the lot. Our hosts were great nothing was too much trouble.

The bedside lamps did not work.

The room and bathroom were spacious and the bed very comfortable. Breakfast was good, and the very friendly staff were allergy aware. The bar has some good beer and comfortable places to read and write and interesting local pictures. It met my expectations of an old English pub.

Maybe some exterior re-decoration is on the cards, but indoors was tip-top.
