The building is lovely, interesting decor and a nice bar and restaurant. The breakfast was excellent and the location was great for walking into the town centre but still very quiet.

On the description it says all the amenities are in "in one space", and they were not kidding! From the pictures it appeared there was a roll top bath in the actual room, but what wasn't clear was so is a clear glass shower and a slightly frosted glass toilet cubicle! Lucky me and me sister are close, but we couldn't imagine when anyone would want to have a toilet in the room right next to the bed. Very odd choices of design. Even a screen, a tiny area for some privacy, or at least the shower having frosted glass would have been nice!

The check-in and bar staff were very friendly and helpful. The attitude of the breakfast staff was quite frosty to start but they got more friendly as we got through breakfast. The hotel is in a lovely, wide, leafy avenue and an easy walk into the centre.

Our room was lovely although it could have done without the bath in the middle of the room as it had a wet room shower and the bath took up too much space and looked a bit odd. Also, no sink with the toilet so you had to leave the bathroom before you could wash your hands. That said, the bed was very comfortable and we had a good, quiet night's sleep. A sad looking jug of filter coffee was on offer in the morning. To make guests feel more welcome, it would be great to be offered a fresh coffee or tea as we sat down. This would be far more welcoming and they are listed on the breakfast menu.

I really liked the layout of the room. The interior was nice of the whole building including the rooms (with exception to the weird toilet door). The hot breakfast was really tasty.

The only couple of things I didn’t like about the property was the ceiling in the shower of room 10 was peeling considerably from the moisture from the shower. The toilet doors don’t lock in the rooms and they are more like glass screens instead of doors. So instead I used the normal toilets downstairs. The cold items for breakfast needed stocking up more regularly. All of the juice bottles were empty when I came down from the room in the morning. There were no plates or glasses either.

The highlight of my trip was that the staff listened to my request for a quiet room (light sleeper), and they placed me at the back of the property away from the main road, and away from the bar. This time of year, it was cold, and thus people were only drinking indoors, so the noise on Fri & Sat night was minimal. The accommodation was very nice - and had everything I needed.

If I was to nitpick, there seemed to be an issue with the hot water in the shower, and it only got luke warm, which was a nuisance. When I mentioned it to a staff member, the response was "thanks for letting me know" and... that was it! Not overwhelmingly helpful. The door on the bathroom also needed fixing + the area around the shower needed better cleaning. On one of the two days I went for the included breakfast, the chef was apparently away, and frankly the breakfast was bad. Scrambled eggs were wet and liquidy, bacon was burnt, black pudding was over cooked... not good. But well, I guess they were doing their best. Anyhow, I'm nitpicking, overall the stay was good, and if I needed to go back to Bedford, I wouldn't shy away from staying again.

The staff were very helpful. The accommodation was clean. The accommodation was comfortable, and naturally not responsible for sticky humid conditions overnight which impaired sleep, but a fan was provided, but nothing to stand it on! For persons who are over 70, the property is inconvenient, with many stairs, and rooms described as 'quirky', which means not very practical! As my room was on the top floor, it was not the best for a person in their seventies. Help was provided with my luggage, and the staff could not be faulted. Breakfast offers a good variety, and to be commended.

As mentioned, the room was not particularly practical. In a fire, I would be doubtful if you are on the top floor of your chances (no external fire escape, as far as I could see). The 'inviting' slipper bath in the room is not very practical, but I did manage it OK. I could not get a couple of the lights to work. Car parking was rather haphazard, and you are warned it is on a first come - first served basis, but you are not told that street parking permits are available. Access to the car park is somewhat difficult. Value is average, but nothing great.

Lovely large room, comfortable bed, good shower. Ambience was great and very relaxed, and staff were friendly. Breakfast was superb. Good to have electric car charging facilities on site too.

We aren’t used to having the en suite facilities within the same room as the bedroom (ie the en suite was not in a totally separate room adjoining the bedroom), so that was a bit of a surprise (although we know it seems to be a bit of a trend these days) - it would have been good to have been given a choice on this. A very small thing really: the shower water was very slow to drain away.

We liked the quirky yet comfortable feel of the place. We are in favour of repurposing and pleased to see many Victorian and old items reused. We liked the location with just a short walk to the centre. The bed was comfortable, lighting adequate , power points and WiFi good enough. The staff were friendly. Room 11 was quite quiet and we weren't unduly disturbed by squeaks and creaks from floorboards in and outside the room. We had two breakfasts and one evening meal and found all to be enjoyable. I was concerned about parking but we didn't have a problem.

We are not prudish but we did find the virtually see-through toilet door and free standing bath in the room a little unappealing. We have stayed elsewhere in a similar room but they provided a simple fold-away screen. Perhaps one could be provided in room 11 for those more embarrassing moments !

Good location Comfortable room free carpark All be it quite small.

The noise in the morning from the deliveries at 0630. The crashing and banging of goods on the stair well my roo. Was at the top of. Then the laundry mand blocking the access with his stuff. The fact the chef did not turn in on time for start of breakfast. I was fortunate this time I did not has to go to work early. I returned about an hour later and had a nice cooked breakfast when the chef came in. No receipt has ever been sent despite promises it would be. The toilet cubical in the room could do with the walls cleaning. Small touch. The wooden floor appears dirty and attracts dust etc in the gaps. Come on its a good hotel shake it up a bit will you.

Situated in an attractive avenue this lovely building and terrace garden has many authentic period details. It is ideally situated from the town centre by a short walk. Our two night stay was during a severe cold spell with snow, however this mattered little as our charming room was warm with a most comfortable bed. The bar and restaurant is a cosy environment and the restaurant ceiling was most interesting! The evening meal and drinks were compatible to hotel prices, however the quality was very high justifying the cost. Breakfast was exceptional and set us up nicely for the day ahead! The staff made us most welcome and we're very attentive and friendly, in particular Julia looked after us nicely. On arrival we were asked if we had any notification to add to our stay in which we did as it was a joint anniversary/birthday treat, so to our surprise a complimentary drink was offered.

Didn't dislike anything.

Loved the room, it was really quirky and super comfortable. lots of storage space in the room. comfortable bed and the bath in the middle of the room was a really nice touch. good secure parking.

The breakfast service was really slow (waiting staff were great, however i overheard from the dismissive chef "its its gluten free then it just takes longer!) On the third day, i specifically said i needed to leave by a certain time as the previous morning, it took 35 minutes to be served...
