Holiday Inn Express Cambridge, an IHG Hotel

Location good and also convenient for walking to the city centre-good sized room - nice en suite -settee and decent sized and comfortable chair to sit and watch TV without using the bed - air conditioning essential and good- breakfast excellent and fill ups for the room drink tray was great with excellent choice

Reception could have explained the process of helping yourself to room drink tray fill ups on arrival - -if I wanted to be picky there was rust on the bathroom fittings and the dining room table was rather sticky even after being cleared by staff - wasn't told the room electrics needed the room door card in a wall slot to operate so thought there had been a power cut - and no-one explained if food was available on the evening from the kitchen

During this September heatwave, the rooms air conditioning was very welcome. The room was very clean and had good amenities, ironing board, tea tray, hairdryer and the main bed was very comfortable. We slept very well no traffic could be heard. We stayed here as we were moving our son in at AR University which is a short drive from this hotel so the location was perfect to run errands for him whilst he settled into his hall of residence. It is a very busy hotel with business travellers checking in day and night and still with taxis and cars pulling up constantly, no noise could be heard from outside which is impressive.

The fold out bed was a tight squeeze for the size of the room and the mattress looked very uneven, our 4 year old slept on it just fine but I would have been bad for my adult back to sleep on it. The website states there is a vending machine for drinks/snacks, there isn't just a bar that closes at 11pm. The vending machine only stocks toiletries, tech items, etc. The room doors are very heavy and make a lot of noise when they close, luckily we had considerate neighbours who didn't make too much noise with the doors closing.

The breakfast was very good,plenty of choice to cater for most people,could have been hotter but understand it is difficult with buffet. Staff did a good job replenishing food and cleaning tables which in some cases were left in a terrible state.

Car park was in a state when we arrived and even worse when we left! It is the first thing you see when arriving and first impressions count, the rubbish bins were full when we arrived and overflowing on departure, not really good enough when you are paying £5 a night on top of your room price. People we're drinking out of their cars in the evening and empty beer bottles we're left laying around waiting to be broken and cause punctures. Also on arrival we were given a menu for the restaurant which looked OK, when we went to eat we were given another much smaller menu which was basically Burgers or Pizza, not impressed, so ate out next night.

There might be some room for improvement somewhere for someone! For me, I was impressed by the cleanliness of the rooms! Service with smile. Very helpful staff especially Cadence! Also quite flexible with-checking in/out times. Lots of parking. Quite location. I noted from some of budget hotels where there's that deep rooted smoke like smell which is masked by some aerosol. Not this hotel, very nice clean smell, shower and toilet were quite clean too. Lots of parking. Wheelchair and children friendly place. Breakfast is usually included in the price however you need to get down early as it from 7-10 and because they stop refilling stuff. We got there around 9:45 (oops), most of the stuff was gone.

No complaints! Very comfortable stay.

English breakfast was excellent - best scrambled egg, bacon and sausages I have had in a British hotel. Staff at reception and the bar were also outstanding. Nothing was too much trouble. Quite a good location: not in the city, but near enough for a committed walker to get there on foot. Quite nice surroundings. despite the "industrial estate" location. Car park seemed to work well - I used the machine near the main door rather than trying to struggle with my phone.

It's a budget hotel, so don't expect beautiful interiors or well-appointed rooms. All the basics are up to scratch. Not suitable for a romantic get-away, but great for families and general business visits to Cambridge.

The hotel contacted me immediately upon booking, making me feel welcomed as a guest before we’d even arrived. The hotel receptionist was really welcoming, friendly and helpful. The room was in a quiet spot and whilst basic, it met our needs. I liked that it included a free breakfast which is a rare thing these days. And as we signed up for free membership to IHG we got free parking and a late checkout.

The bed was a bit uncomfortable for me. I’m slender and could feel the springs when I turned on my side. My parents also stayed at the hotel and didn’t mention the beds, but they’re not as skinny as me! The breakfast wasn’t great for me -i’m Vegan and there wasn’t much I could eat that was healthy. (The porridge has milk powder mixed in - as does the packaged muesli.) The items that were unpackaged weren’t labelled with ingredients/allergens. Some small improvements to the above would make this hotel next level. This is just me being super picky about what was a really positive stay though.

Was pleasantly surprised,the hotel grounds where lovely and clean,although parking was not run by the hotel it was easy on the machines available to pay,and not expensive £5 for our 24hr stay. We where greeted in the hotel by very pleasant staff,who could not of been more helpful 😊 The choices for breakfast which was included in the price we paid was what we thought very good,with plenty of choice and variety to cater for all,and the cleanliness of the dining area was very good,once again all staff very pleasant. We have to mention the lovely Candice the receptionist who greeted us as we checked in and was also there to check us out when we left,her beautiful smile just brightened you're day, Thankyou Holiday inn express cambridge you're hotel and staff are excellent,will definitely return and recommend.

The only down fall for us was the distance to the corn exchange, which was the reason we where , it was a taxi for us there which worked out expensive. But would not put us off from staying at the hotel on another occasion.

Plenty of food available for breakfast, dinner menu very basic but ok. Room was very clean, large tv and comfortable beds. Free parking.

fire alarm went off at 6.45am, everyone exited the hotel to the meeting point. No sign of any staff either inside or outside. No staff member came out to count the number of guests. Eventually we all moved into reception as the alarm was switched off. Two men behind reception told us we could return to our rooms. The whole episode was extremely badly handled and it seemed there were only the two members staff in the the hotel, and they certainly didn't have any training on what to do in regard to dealing with the guests. I'd hate to think what would have happened if there had been a real fire. I will not be staying here again.

Everything was as we expected having stayed in this hotel before - so we weren't disappointed at all!!

The breakfasts were excellent as were all of the staff - so friendly & nothing was a trouble. One of the best discoveries of our stay was - I needed a gift for a child I'd not seen for a while & I was going to buy sweets until I spotted the vending machine in reception - within minutes I'd purchased a mini travel colouring book & pencils - perfect, the child was thrilled & I didn't have to leave the hotel to buy it - what an excellent idea - thank you!!

Okay location. Good breakfast, lots of choice. Super clean room, bedding, comfy beds, great shower. Cleanliness was excellent in room.

If you’re going sightseeing, drive to town or get a taxi or bus. It’s quite a walk to add to sightseeing. Toaster too slow, one piece of bread at a time!? Why? It’s a revolving toaster!! Person clearing the tables wasn’t keeping up with the job. At one point, 9 tables were cluttered with dirty crockery. Very noisy doors slamming. Hearing talking outside the door and next door. Also other tv’s. Why is there a need to charge for parking? Give hotel guests a permit to put in the window. Easy.
