Shelford Lodge

Very handy location for getting my husband to Papworth Hospital for his operation. The room was small but warm and clean with a good shower and nice fluffy towels. There was a good amount of parking at the rear. Breakfast was simple but adequate with good choice of cereals, toast, brioche buns, jams, marmalade, yoghurt and savoury selection.

A kettle in the room would have been useful as I brought coffee sachets & a flask. Managed to use the kettle in the breakfast room though so thanks for that.

Friendly and helpful staff. The room was spaceous and clean and I also had my own shower/toilet room next door. The food arrangements were very good - the "breakfast room" was available all day and night, so you could make hot drinks and heat up food in the microwave, or make toast. Bread, breakfast serials and jam were made available. The hotel is outside Cambridge, but on the bus route, though I chose to walk along the river, via Granchester.

Pretty basic could do with being refurbed that being said still comfortable clean and warm, staff were welcoming and helpful ,breakfast is included and self serve continental which was fine all in all for 61 pounds per night for two of us it was great value for money with easy trasnport links into the city centre only a couple of minutes walk away would we stay again? Yes the grounds are pleasent and peacful too

Staff were flexible and accomodating with check in time after my trains were delayed. The room was basic but comfortable, not luxurious, just good value for money. The breakfast was included and was, again basic but very good value. No complaints whatsoever.

I was travelling to visit Cambridge and probably didn't appreciate how far from the centre it is. It takes about an hour to walk and 30 minutes on the bus. But this isn't a criticism of the hotel, just something I should have been more aware of.

Honestly I didn't even want to check out on my day cos I was really happy in my single room...it was so quiet and nice..lady in the reception was very warm and welcoming I felt at home..she even offered to book a taxi for me waaaw such friendly people there..I enjoyed my room so much with beautiful shower with nice warm water..I stayed 5 nights and enjoyed all of them..thanks very much for being so nice and caring...

Friendly and accommodating staff, it did it's purpose, it is what it is.. it's a nice place to stay if you need a base to stop off. It's basic, it's clean & decent, if you just need a base to stay. We are a colourful group of people of friends that stayed here, and we able to group together and chill in each others rooms, without any issues and disturbing anyone else's stay.. this was a plan B, as our 1st reservation was cancelled, last min.. but it was a good option, and did us good.. simple breakfast was included also, which was a nice option, to have. It's a great stop off, if you need something simple. Top marks from me and my group

The Lodge has a perfect price value ratio. The location between Sawston and Cambridge makes quiet enough and cluse to the city too. Very nice mixture of both The bed was very good for a hotel in this price range.

The hotel renewed the homepage while I was there, the information about the breakfast times got lost during that update. You see? ;)

Please don’t believe all the reviews for this hotel. Mine is a honest one. This hotel was clean, clean bedding, towels. Lady on reception was very welcoming. Yes, the rooms are outdated. Yes it has got a huge building built on the back of the house but this doesn’t take away the fact that for £25 a night you receive a nice place to lay your head. Breakfast is self service. Toaster, cereals, jams, fresh bits of fruit, cucumber, tomatoes, ham, cheese. Unfortunately no pastries but you can fill up with anything that’s there. Milk in the fridge and you can use the room anytime in the day for your tea or coffee. If you take your own food, tea, coffee in you can store it in the fridge with your room number on. Car park leaves a lot to be desired but it serves as a car park. What more do you need. Our room had a shower room and toilet directly opposite our room. Bit of a pain in the middle of the night but when you’ve got to wee you’ve got to wee. Don’t let this put you off. For £25, a stones throw from Cambridge, breakfast, free parking, no hassle from anyone, I would definitely stay here again.

Can’t complain about anything for the price

Very good wi-fi, very easy to reach the location, free parking available, satisfactory hygiene, tasty breakfast.

I couldn't say that I didn't liked something because the balance between the price and what they offering is very satisfactory. Let's just say that if you have high expectations you will have to pay more. This location is very good for someone who travels for work. The host is very nice and reliable.

Stayed 4 nights during rail strike. Very quiet. Lovely clean room and bathroom. Staff helpful. Handy for the no 7 bus route to Cambridge/Saffron Walden. Bus stops in Cambridge road very close to the property.
