Family stayed in the hotel and they enjoyed it. Found it quiet enough despite had a road (taking ALL traffic to and from the railway station) facing room on the second floor. It is spacious enough. Their initial worry about the softness of the bed - which they mistaken for a water bed very first time trying, feeling sinking in, and being used to firm mattress - was not justified. The top layer is soft, sinks in a bit but not being thick and holds you in place while lower layer is firm, also giving a support. They found this an ideal combination and had a very good sleep. So the bed is very comfy. The room and bathroom are clear. For us - family visiting both Cambridge and some surrounding area - was ideal, medium walk distance to the inner city, next to the railway station, having grocery, pubs, caffes and resaturants practically next door (in a 100-150m radius). The staff is always reachable (both phone and in person) and helpful in planing and supporting the stay. I had lots of question while planing. The decor is very pretty, the common areas are very spaceous in two levels, plenty of space to sit down for a chat or hanging out. They had breakfast only once (lots of other choices nearby), that is average as I heard.

Too expensive.

Excellent customer service, very friendly and helpful. Hotel was beautiful, very homely. Breakfast buffet was also excellent. Incredibly comfy beds. Perfect after a long day of exploring. Location also very good. Jump on the A or C bus to get into the centre of town if 20 min is too much of a walk. Uber also an option, drivers don’t use Bolt.

Bedroom doors seem to require a hard slam to close which you can feel vibrate through your room/bed. Not often enough to annoy however. Half of the room flooring was tiled. Very cold on the feet. But slippers are provided to counter that.

1. We got the room upgrade to the delux double and it was very nice. Big bed, fridge, nice bathroom and clean. 2. We would stay there again as the location was great. 2 minute walk to the station, 5 min walk to the hop on hop off bus tour stop and £6.50 in an uber to the city centre but you can walk it in 20 mins. 3. We were also very grateful that the hotel had spare umbrellas for guests as our first day there was pouring with rain. 4. We didn't have a lot of interaction with staff as only there 2 nights so cannot speak much for this. But I did notice that when we checked out the woman asked how our stay was and I also appreciate it when we are asked this as a lot of people don't do this. We also didn't have the chance to try out the dinner or bar area but it looked nice and would do that next time..

1. We didn't like the price of the breakfast. £17.50 and didnt feel the quality of the hot food was value for money. The choice was okay but the actual cooking/taste wasn't great. We didn't have breakfast there the second day. It is only worth the money if you plan to get a mountain of food on your plate and go back for seconds. If you prefer a lighter breakfast like some bacon and toast or some fruit and cereal you then you are getting ripped off. 2. We would have liked more room service menu options. Particularly for breakfast but room service available was only pizza.

This hotel is fabulous - much more luxurious and plush than other Clayton Hotels I've stayed in. Only 1 minute from Cambridge train station, close to cafes and a couple of bars, with the most comfortable beds and pillows.. I didn't expect this hotel to be as lovely as it is! I returned unexpectedly (flight cancellation due to UK air traffic technical issues), chose to return here rather than stay closer to Stansted while waiting for a new flight. I was able to check in early on both visits (9.30am, and 12.30pm), was upgraded for free on my second visit, and was so impressed by both rooms. Would definitely return again for a stay in beautiful Cambridge.

The only slight negative was that one member of the housekeeping staff wasn't the friendliest, she knocked over an hour before the checkout time and I told her I'd be leaving at the checkout time as I had a work call to do beforehand, and she was very abrupt and not impressed with my answer. Even when passing her later in the corridor when I was leaving, she was not friendly. It stood out more because the other staff were so nice and helpful and professional, and her attitude was unusual but really unnecessary.

The bed was incredibly comfortable. It was big and soft and warm. Probably one of the best bed I've ever slept on. The location by the station was really convenient for us. It meant we could drop our bags and explore the town on foot. It's a bit of a walk so if that sounds tough you might need to get a bus or taxi.

No robes! I know it's small thing, but robes rock and I thought a place like the Clayton would have them. Maybe they have them in the more high-end rooms? We only stayed one night so didn't bother with anything too fancy.

Fantastic beds and pillows (would love to know the makes?) Had such an amazing good sleep. Staff was attentive and could not fault.

Breakfast was disappointing, 1st day asked for a fried egg which I never did receive, couldn't eat the hot breakfast as was lukewarm and put on to cold plate. Thought it may of been a one off but 2nd day was also lukewarm, beans was just being topped up with fresh cooked on kitchen but was still lukewarm. Another day I couldn't eat breakfast. One lift was out of order and then the other lift broke down. We were on the 6th floor but luckily we spoke to staff and they let us use the service lift.

the hotel was modern clean and comfortable

staff shortages definitely showed went for breakfast not a clean table was put in a corner on a bar table which they said they would lay waited 15 minutes no one came no clean cups to get tea or coffee after half an hour of waiting we walked out. we went to book dinner and the lady said to come back at 9.00pm we arrived back at the time we booked for and was told to come back in another hour which was far to late so we had to find somewhere else to eat which was very difficult at that time of night. our room had been tided but the cups we had a tea in were left dirty on the side and the tea coffee and milk had not been topped up . I did complain which I don’t normally do and they were very apologetic and offered me a bottle of prosseco.

It is hard to find good hotels in the whole of the UK. We always struggle specially in last 3 years that we have been doing so many staycations. Clayton was great. We loved Everything.. we had a great stay for a night. Lovely decor inside. parking was an issue but parking at the station was easy and not that far to walk to the hotel from there unless you have too much luggage. I know a lot of people are complaining about the breakfast being bad or not up to their expectations but it was ok for us. Nothing great nothing like too bad. it was ok. coffee machine is a bit of a problem because its good coffee and only one machine between so many people so had to queue for that which is a bit annoying as when a coffee lover wants coffee they can’t wait. Also, we booked breakfast included in the booking so it was fine price wise. if you have to pay separately then that comes out way too expensive and yes not worth it then.

Queues for coffee at breakfast.

The hotel is very good, rooms are spacious, beds comfy. The hotel is a 2 minute walk from the train station and a 20 min walk to the colleges. Everything is clean. Staff is friendly enough. Dinner in a hotel restaurant was decent.

Breakfast was okay, if you were to order some porridge or eggs from the kitchen, be prepared to wait, the service is not going to be efficient. Also make sure you check which room you booked, we were placed in a wrong room first, had to go back to the reception, which was understaffed. In general, nobody is in a rush there, so be patient and eventually you'll get what you need.

This was my second stay at this hotel so I already know what to expect. A warm welcome on arrival and helpful and friendly staff throughout my stay. The location is great as it is near the railway station as well as Park and Ride bus stop. It is a short walk to the Botanic gardens and the centre is easily accessible on foot in approx 15 mins. My room was very clean and comfortable as well as peaceful. There is an excellent choice at breakfast with something to suit all tastes.

The only thing i would recommend is that there might be a non-slip mat provided for the shower in the bathroom.
