Lovely hotel, cosey country feel, our room was massive. Very clean, coffee facilities with coffee pods and snacks supplied, not just a kettle and some coffee sachets. Our bed was very comfortable and the air conditioning was a delight during the September heatwave. The staff member was so lovely who showed us up to our room. Would definitely stay again.

Not a bad thing but no lift there and if on top floor it's a good few stairs to climb, so not great for mobilty issues. The side door for hotel guests runs right past the pub toilets and when checking out in the morning there was a definite loo smell coming out them filling up the hallway.

We knew of the Riverside having previously lived in Chelmsford, but this was our first time staying in one of their rooms. We were presently surprised by the size of the room and the facilities offered. The room was very quaint with beams running through the ceiling which added an air of charm. We were very pleased that there was air con which was very welcome on a hot day. This meant that we did not have to open the window and therefore were not disturbed by those in the beer garden. We enjoyed a good meal downstairs in the pub area, but it is so central you could walk into town in less than 5 minutes to one of the many restaurants there. We enjoyed our stay and will definitely return.

The bed was a bit on the soft side for us, but that is down to personal preference.

The staff here were 10/10 I honestly can’t fault a thing about them. They were very welcoming and fulfilled any enquiries I had. The bath is very spacious, daily snacks and water provided in the room. I had a nice view across a small river out the back aswell as the new seating area outdoors. The food is bang on, kudos to the chefs. If I’m ever needing to stay in the area for work again, I’ll be sure to go here again!

The only downside I can think of is(this is going to sound really petty) but the positioning of the TV in above rooms, the upstairs TV was on full blast as I was going to sleep(I’m an early sleeper so this was around 9) so instead of counting sheep, I was answering questions on the chase to get me to sleep.. maybe move the upstairs TV across the other side of the room? I know it’s difficult due to the lay out but as I said, it’s petty.

The building was fabulous fir people who like history. Breakfast wasn't included and disappointingly there was nowhere to leave your luggage after 11am checkout. We had intended to explore the city but had to carry our luggage around until we flew home at 6pm. But the experience of sleeping in that room was super and we had a goid meal in the restaurant. We didn't realise it was a 500 yr old listed building when we booked.

So quirky with fantastic energy in a lovely room. Bed was really comfortable and couldnt really ask for anything else. Food was lovely and bar had a great atmosphere. You can hear the floor boards above creak but i think if it was fixed it would spoil the room. Although it is over a bar you cant hear any noise when in room. The outside area looked great and would be lovely to in summer to stay all say. Unfortunately it rained for the duration of my stay. Update on previous comments are that there is free wifi and the coffee machine can be used for tea and coffee. I really enjoyed my stay and actually tried to stay an additional night but it was fully booked. Gutted to go home :)

Only disappoint was no breakfast. I knew this when i booked but fell in love with the pictures. No other bad points xxxx

The staff are really lovely. Was shown to the room, everything explained. Later on went down to the bar by myself and sat a bit. The room I stayed in is impressively sized. Everything was really clean. Loved the coffee machine set up, this was the cherry on top and the little snacky bits.. The shower is always my nit pick in stays and the shower here was so good!! 👌 the bed was super comfy, linen was really clean. Just beautifully done!

When I got to the room it was really stuffy. Being an old building ventilation is a bit hard, opened the window though and ventilated quickly. Summer would definitely require an Aircon. Think there are fans in the wardrobe though. Not sure there's anything that anything can be done about the creaking since it's ancient. But the person above me kept me awake just walking about.

Lovely comfortable bed and the room feel so homey. Everything was clean and nice. They even had an extra heater that you can use if you need one. I will definitely come back or recommend this lovely hotel as it is also very convenient to shops and transportation. About 10mins walk to railway station and there’s also a bus stop right n front of the building. Thank you so much! I am pleased and very satisfied of choosing this accommodation.

The squeaky sound of the floor upstairs when someone is walking but it’s not that bad.

Good directions and information provided by the venue through Booking.com, alerting me to the fabulously cheap car park just across the road (literally) and which was only £5 for 24 hours! On arrval there was a smooth and swift check in with a warm welcome from a massively affable young man who could not have been more helpful, who carried my bags up the stairs to my room, explaining the key fob entry system fully and then served me with a smile both in the restaurant and bar - note to employer - he's a HUGE asset! Fantastic sized room with lots of character, yet all the mod cons like a smart TV and with a fabulously appointed bathroom a super comfy bed - fabulous!

The only thing that was missing was breakfast, the addition of which would make this place 11/10! Truth to tell though, there's nothing not to like about this place and I'll certainly book again if I'm in the Chelmsford area.

Lovely room and building - lots of character, warm and comfortable. Squishiest pillows I've ever laid on! There were extra heaters for the cold weather which I appreciated! They don't do breakfast at the pub but there were breakfast bars/biscuits and tea and coffee in the room and you're not far away from plenty of coffee shops. The location is great, I needed to be near the city centre for work and it's walkable from the train station too. I had an issue with the shower out of hours, I called the number provided and someone came in 20 mins. That was great, thank you!

The water temperature in the shower fluctuated a bit, meaning I got some cold shocks here and there! But it is an old building so I think this isn't unusual. I also had an issue with getting the cold tap stuck on but that was my fault. It wouldn't stop me from staying again.

The room had a homely feel. It was cosy and clean. The bed was comfortable. It was lovely to enjoy a soak in the bath. I felt safe and secure there. The staff were helpful and friendly. I would recommend the Riverside Inn to others and maybe stay again if the opportunity arose.

I found the apparatus to make a cup of tea a little challenging, but I got there in the end. Other than that, there was nothing else that I felt was detrimental to my stay.
