The room was tidy and the bed linen was very soft and comfortable. The bathroom was very modern an the shower was clean and had good pressure. The female chef the morning I departed was very accommodating and was happy to take my breakfast request. The porridge was absolutely lovely, it made my morning.

A better allocated space for the tea tray in the bedroom, it was tucked away in one of the bedside table cubby holes. I had to sit on the floor to make a coffee. The radiator kept bubbling on my second night which did wake me periodically.

When checking in online, I requested a twin room for our daughters, which wasn't exactly what I had booked initially - the hotel honoured the request and the room was lovely. Our beds were comfortable and the bathroom facilities were great. The staff members we encountered were invariably polite and helpful.

My husband and I had stayed for a night several months previously and one of the reasons we rebooked was due to the fabulous cooked breakfast. You can imagine our dismay to see a sign telling us that only continental breakfast is currently available.

The setting of the Manor is beautiful it's in a lovely place, the staff were super friendly and helpful, the room was decent for the price we paid and the bed was very comfy. I went out fairly early on the first morning and by the time I came back 2 hours later my room was already clean and tidy which was much appreciated so I wasn't disturbed later in the day.

The carpet in the room wasn't very clean, could definitely benefit from a new carpet, also the window didn't open very far with the block so it got quite warm during the night. But other than that the stay was spot on.

Nice breakfasts, eggs benedictine in particular. Sunday roast very good, stroganoff and chicken [but not the beef!] pie fillings a bit watery [for my liking] although they tasted nice. All staff very friendly. Room clean and tidy.

If I'm being asked to be hyper-critical I'd say lack of a Real Ale choice in the bar [just one bottled on offer which ran out] and some of the 'watery' food mentioned above. Background music playing quite loud on occassion through dinner period. The shower cubicle was very tight. None of this spoilt the break though

Staff were superb - cheerful, helpful, enthusiastic - especially on the reception desk. Rooms were very good - nicely decorated and you can tell someone has made an effort and thought about the fixtures and fittings. Lots of easy parking

Its hard to find fault ...but the kitchen was the only weak link. Credit for serving homemade chips and not oven chips, but such a shame they were served dark brown, overcooked and soggy (as was the fish). Full English breakfast was really good but served on a stone cold plate, as was my poached eggs so food gets cold quickly. And UHT milk cartons served with tea/coffee? Seems a really strange thing to do when fresh milk is so easy and so much more tasty

Very nice breakfast and using local sourced ingredients was good Staff were very friendly and made us feel very welcome. Loved the classical music playing in the bar area ;)) Lounge area seating was so relaxing and decorated beautifully Loved the window seat in our double room and it felt very cosy sitting there reading

Felt it was a long way to walk to the continental buffet area from our breakfast table in the main dining area Mattress was unfortunately not very comfortable for me but my husband felt it was fine :) Walls between our room were very thin as we could hear the TV from next door - was the TV next door on the back wall behind our bed?

Location was beautiful, grounds lovely, Manor House nicely updated so that it hasn't lost its old world character, quirky decor but not so out there it is distracting, tastefully done. Very efficient friendly staff. Restaurant very good, breakfast wonderful. Good menu interesting enough to be a little different but with all the classics too. Well presented. Good well priced wine list. Lovely atmosphere.

The room was very small but as we were just overnight for the price we paid was acceptable. Shower tiny! I am not huge, so not sure how anyone over a size 20 would cope. Once in which was a feat in itself could not bend down to reach shampoo etc. had to ask partner to come in and pass them to me!! Coffee at breakfast was weak and superheated.

The staff were very helpful and cheerful. The location was very good, near Durham but in lovely countryside not far from the coast at Seaham. Bus into Durham nearby. Lovely old manor house.

Two flights of stairs with no lift was difficult as we are older. The second flight were quite steep although we were offered help with our cases. The waiting times for food in the restaurant were very variable, one night we waited more than 40 mins for our mains, the waiter appologetically explained the kitchen got the order wrong and if we wanted the right order one of us would have to wait 20 mins more. We just agreed to eat what was ready which was OK. Monday breakfast also took 40 mins for main course to arrive.

A converted Manor house located near Durham( Park and ride to the centre is only a 7 min drive away). Good sized bedrooms with comfy beds. Evening meal was superb and the cooked breakfast substantial. Veggie options available. Staff attentive and fun. Great stay.

Nothing really. The only confusion could come about is that the brown sign directing you to the hotel says Hallgarth Manor Hotel. But it is actually called now The 61.

Lovely setting, beautifully decorated for Christmas Staff were very welcoming and attentive Dinner was delicious. The communal areas were inviting. The bathroom was spotless and the room was also very clean. Bed and pillows were comfortable.

Our room (103) was very small. There was no space to unpack anything. Only a couple of coathangers, no drawers at all or space to store bags out of sight. We were only there for 1 night so we managed but if we'd stayed any longer we'd have struggled. Perhaps the room is only allocated to guests who stay 1 night. There were tea and coffee making facilities but no table to stand the kettle on. The lack of table also meant there was nowhere to safely rest my hair straighteners.
