We had a lovely break at the hotel. The bed was really comfortable and wide enough. The room was clean and tea and coffee facilities were provided. The staff were very helpful and friendly. The hotel had a cosy feel throughout and our meals arrived on time and were delicious with very generous helpings. the decoration is traditional which gives the venue a homely relaxed feel. The setting is in the countryside, not near any busy roads and has the added attraction of the Haresfield Beacon being quite close by for amazing views of the countryside.

There wasn't really anything I didn't like. The trains can be a little noisy until you get used to them but they don't seem to run late into the night so its fine for sleeping.

It was beautiful, peaceful and relaxing. Stephen, Wendy, their daughter and Katherine (?) we’re gracious host and attended to all our needs. They treated us like family. They have an excellent restaurant on site with great food. I am a cancer patient and they had vegan/vegetarian food choices. One of our taxi drivers said that is a popular place where the locals like to eat. We didn’t have a car so we had to walk to the bus stop or take a taxi to get around.

The bed was two single beds joined together and wasn’t comfortable.

it was a rustic and authentic old railway pub/hotel, situated in a beautiful rural area of Gloucestershire. My room was small, which is pretty standard in the UK, but outside of sleeping, I didn’t spend much time in the room. My room comfortable and clean, with a nice view. Staff and locals were great and the owners wonderful and genuine. All were friendly, helpful and very accommodating. Steven and I chatted everyday and was a wealth of knowledge about the area while Wendy cooked a great full English breakfast at a reasonable price. I’d go back in a second.

nothing I can think of.

Friendly and helpful owners, pleasant staff. Food was great and the restaurant on Friday and Saturday night was always full. Breakfast good value for money. Sunday they held a yearly event in aid of Cancer. Great evening too. Although there was a train that passed closely by it was a peaceful area and plenty of car park space. Would I go back there Yes.

The tables in the Dinning area needed cleaning. They were a bit sticky. Beds were a little uncomfortable and floor boards creaked.

What a hidden gem. Wonderful location with a railway line to the front and a field of cows to the side (no smell). Idyllic place to stay. Very friendly but professional staff. We decided to have a meal whilst there and were so glad we did, great choice and well prepared - so good, that we decided to have breakfast there too. Very warm welcome in the morning and exceptional value for money food. There was plenty of choice and the ingredients were great quality. Will stay again.

Wish we had booked for two nights instead of one. We didn't want to leave as it was so relaxing.

A very friendly hotel, staff and locals. We received a warm welcome on arrival and were shown to our room, it was cozy with a nice view. We arrived by bicycle and they kindly let us store it in the function room. We had a lovely meal there in the evening and a couple of well kept ales. I had good pint of london pride 18years ago, did not find another until 2015 on London south bank, then found a third at the Beacon. The beer is kept by an expert. Would definitely recommend the Beacon and Railway and will revisit. A big thank you to the staff.

We couldn't fault anything.

Highly recommended. Hosts Steve and Wendy could not do enough for their guests. This is also a REAL country pub with lots of friendly local regulars. Hard to find these days! Traditional food cooked to order perfectly. Delicious English breakfast. Easy parking Situated in the beautiful Gloucestershire countryside yet minutes away from M5 North, South, a few miles from Gloucester/ Cheltenham and the Cotswold. Also so reasonable compared to the bland multi national bands. 5 stars Steve and Wendy. I'm back next week !!

Lovely location, friendly staff who made us feel very welcome. They also remembered us from the last time we stayed. We stayed in the family studio room this time which was perfect for a family of 4 and very comfortable and spacious.

Some blackout blinds would have been useful as it was very light in the room, especially in the early hours of the morning. Would have been nice to have had breakfast included in the room rate as £7.50 extra per person per day is a bit too much when on a budget. However we did have the breakfast on our last day (we stayed 3 nights) and it was absolutely delicious.

This is a small pub so don't go expecting a luxury hotel. The stage are very friendly and helpful, lovely surrounding countryside, good value for money. Free car parking, good wifi, bed was fine.

The rooms are not all that big but I didn't expect them to be in a 19thC pub. The name is a clue however: right next to a railway line with fast trains whizzing past and what sounded like some freight at night - if you are on that side of the building the noise can be disturbing.

The room was warm, clean and fairly comfortable overall, the bed was soft and extra pillows were provided upon request. The bathroom was very small, however, the shower was large with plenty of hot water. Good quality wall mounted TV, however, it didn't have SKY news which was a first for us in a long time. The food in the restaurant was very good quality, large portions and reasonably priced. Staff were friendly and hospitable towards us which we appreciated. Quiet at night despite the rooms being above the pub. The cute rabbit and guinea pig near the fire exit and the friendly chicken who followed us around !!

There was limited storage space for our clothes (no wardrobe or drawers, just a few hangers) so we had to leave most of our clothes in our case. The false fire alarm that activated at 1am that woke us up !! Limited options to eat out at night apart from the hotel, the nearby village of Stonehouse has a few restaurants but apart from that visitors would need to drive into Stroud which isn't a very attractive town.
