Helpful Staff and Room quality was really fine. Lounge area very comfortable. Great views from lounge and balcony. Bar service fine. Great to have on site parking. We have enjoyed this hotel, having been here numerous times over the years, great position for walks and to walk into town in the evening.

Previous excellent standard of breakfast has declined to a simple help yourself buffet which has attendent issues of food being out for a while and buffet top ups lagging behind demand. Quality of buffet tea is lower than when it was served to the table. Miss the menu at the table and table service that used to be special to this establishment making it more exclusive, now it is a common buffet arrangement.

Nice location lovely gardens and sea views. Play area for kids. Dog friendly.

Place is tied. Areas not cleaned. Breakfast okay but by far not the best. Prices for room are high due to location and views.

the grand old splendour, the lovely friendly staff and the views.

that someone tried to get into our room at midnight, insisting it was his room and we should let him in ! think he was on the wrong floor. the rooms outside the lift are noisy as people return , laughing and screeching into the night . perhaps some signs asking people to be more considerate and not bring yapping dogs !

The breakfast was good with plenty of choice except for the ordinary tea on offer was terrible so I brought the tea bags from the room downstairs every morning. The rooms were kept clean and were comfortable

As above tea in the morning was undrinkable. Was disappointed that the spa facilities were not available and was not told beforehand. WI-FI was no good in the room so didn’t use. The bar area closed at 10.30 every evening and although we didn’t want anymore to drink we would have liked to stay and socialise longer. The coffee machine was being cleaned too early and could not get any after 9.30

The location and original features The room was perfect, it was spacious and spotless. The beds were comfortable and there was a fan in the wardrobe if the weather got too hot. I booked two twin internal rooms, one for my daughter and I and the other for my mother and stepdad, both rooms had windows which was a pleasant surprise.

Nothing. Everything was great, the location, the grounds, the friendly and helpful staff and the rooms. We didn’t get to eat at the hotel as we were meeting up with other people on lour short stay outside the hotel, but we did get to use the bar facilities which, again, were great!

we stayed in an inland executive room, very spacious and amazing views from the 3 windows. breakfast was reasonable, could have done with more fruit choices, but good. wonderful location, a stones throw from the beach and a short walk to the town. exceptionally comfortable and relaxing lounge in adult environment

on hot days could do with a fan in the room. we would have liked a fridge for cooling drinks as well. bar closed early most nights, which was a shame for us late comers (after 10.30pm!)

This Grand Old Lady still maintains her charm. We booked a garden room which had beautiful high ceilings and was very spacious but in the morning I got a glimpse of a seaside room being made up and the view was spectacular (because of the enormous windows). If I stayed here again I would definitely book a sea view room. We had a drink in the bar before heading off to find a restaurant in town. The location is only a short stroll to the city center which was well worth a stroll through and also the Maritime Museum where we saw a Pirate exhibition. Breakfast was plentiful and delicious. I would stay here again but in a sea-view room.

A bit more attention to cleaning up the tables in the bar area. There are a few couches and coffee tables that line the windows to look out onto the garden towards the sea so they are popular to sit at and have a drink. They are premium spots so when a large group vacated these seats we quickly moved in to sit there for a drink, however, we were nearly finished before someone came along to clean up the other parties' mess (and they were messy). A little thing, with attention to detail, that would add a lot.

The sea view was fantastic, and the location. The breakfast was very good, well stocked and replenished, again overlooking the sea. The staff were very friendly and helpful. Loved the lounge area.

Although the pool was lovely, it was let down by the changing area, only one cubicle, and very little space otherwise to change in. The lift was not working for most of the stay, which made it difficult to carry the suitcases to/from the second floor. And without the lift working, the stairs to reach the pool were very steep. If the lift had been working, there would not have been a problem at all.

A lovely historic Victorian building in a superb location. I hope it gains more investment to update some of the hotel whilst keeping the historic features. Lovely friendly staff. A great bar and lounge area with a fantastic view. Great venue for the party we attended on the Saturday but so hot in the function room!

There did not seem to be much control with the heating in our room or the function room where we attended a 60th Birthday party, which must be such a cost to the hotel. Some areas looking very tired, the breakfast room on the Saturday was not very nice, I expected to be in one of the grander eating areas.

plenty of free parking, beautiful room with fantastic sea view, good complimentary tea/coffee tray, comfortable bathrobes with slippers. complimentary toiletries, lovely clean bright modern bathroom with bath and shower. fantastic huge comfortable bed. Adequate buffet breakfast in cafe style surroundings. A lovely characterful hotel with lots of history and good facilities with a comfortable lounge/bar area.

Breakfast was a buffet with very little staff interaction, it would have been nice to have been offered more tea/coffee etc Dinner in the restaurant was disappointing, the menu did not change throughout our stay and was limited, the food was mediocre although tasty and reasonable portions but not always as described on the menu ( "crispy" calamari was certainly NOT crispy}.
