The impressive Duke of Gordon Hotel, situated at the west end of the tranquil village of Kingussie provided an excellent base for touring the Badenoch and Strathspey area. Our refurbished bedroom was well appointed, the free WiFi was superb and evening entertainment was an added bonus. The staff were very helpful and evening and buffet breakfast meals were excellent, all in all very good value for money.

Nothing, all good

Breakfast was lovely - lots of options to chose from and the hot food was a good temperature. What we enjoyed most was the friendliness of the hotel staff. The guys running the bar and the reception staff were very engaging. We obviously weren't part of the large coach trip, but that didn't matter, we were well looked after

Only being a little picky, but the area directly outside the hotel could be tidied and cleaned up a little. There were lots of cigarette butts outside the foyer and the area just looked a little tired. The inside of the hotel was very clean and tidy and well looked after

Staff were friendly and accommodating. Breakfast was lovely, with plenty of options. The food served in the bar and restaurant was delicious and beautifully presented. Our room was comfortable and had everything we needed. Very clean and tidy. The bar staff were an absolute credit to the hotel. Made us feel at home and kept us entertained. Very knowledgeable about the local whiskies and gins and helped us with our choices of drinks. Special thanks to Pete for being awesome and for persuading us to try Haggis and special thanks to Jacob for persuading us to try the Chinese take-away! What a wonderful hotel! We wish we could’ve stayed longer.

Going up the stairs to our room!

We had a wonderful stay at the Duke of Gordon, every staff member we encountered were so friendly, from the moment we got there the woman on the reception desk gave us a lovely welcome to the hotel. We had a beautiful large family room with two double beds and a very generous sized bathroom, beds really comfy and lovely hot shower. We had lunch and dinner in the hotel and enjoyed both but preferred the lunch time choices, personal preferences but food was really nice and affordable. Breakfast was included in our stay, there was a good selection of food and I was so happy they provided dairy free butter for our dairy free child. Very happy, geat location, we visited the Highland folk museum which id recommend if you are interested in history or just enjoy a nice walk outside as it's all outside and focuses on highland times. There was a nice park around the back of the hotel which we didn't know about on booking so this was a nice surprise and the picnic tables outside were a nice touch and enjoyable in the sunshine. Would recommend.

There wasn't anything we didn't like.

A grand old Highland hotel, a little faded in places but mostly smart and with plenty of character. The staff were friendly and helpful, the room clean and comfortable, the breakfast very good and the bar well-stocked with single malts. Plenty of parking. Very good value for money.

The front entrance could do with a lick of paint, and there is a potentially dangerous step which needs fixing before someone trips over it. The plumbing in the room made noise at times, and the shower pressure, although strong, fluctuated a bit, as did the temperature. Couldn't open the bathroom window.

We had a spacious twin room at the rear of the hotel. Breakfast was sufficient. This was a last minute decision to break a long journey south and we were pleased with our choice of hotel, which was also very good value for money.

Not directly the hotel's responsibility, however one of the coaches clearly had an early start in the morning, as the driver was outside on the carpark speaking with someone else at normal volume, around 4.30am daybreak - we felt this was very inconsiderate to any hotel guests with rooms overlooking the carpark!!! This has not impacted on my 8.0 rating!!

The breakfast was typical Scottish with wide choice hot or cold buffet and tea / coffee served. Plenty of friendly and helpful staff around. Evening meals were daily set menu, rather than a la carte, likely to suit the coach party trade. But the meals were good and great value. We stayed 2 nights at the Duke of Gordon as a stage base for a long distance hike. The location for Kingussie train station and bus stops was perfect allowing us to ride out and hike back, or hike out and ride back.

Our ‘superior’ room was on the ground floor looking onto a terrace, which was a little disappointing.

Nice big room, bright and airy. Nice bathroom on the whole. Both reception and bar staff were friendly and helpful. Large bed was perfect. Room was way too hot when we arrived but opening windows and turning down the thermostats quickly made that level comfortable. I put this under 'like' because I realise that different people have different comfort levels and being able to easily adjust things to meet personal preferences was great which is often not possible at a lot of places.

Large rooms in an old building does mean creaky floorboards. Guests above us made a quite a lot of noise moving about as did we. Not something that could be resolved readily but would not stop us staying here again Breakfast was limited and the cooked food was rather oily. Mixer tap in the bath is not working properly and the seal oround the bath top needs renewal.

Staff very friendly and helpful. Hotel caters for large coach parties so is rather focused on that rather than single traveller. Breakfast was good but not amazing. Ate in Ghyllies bar both nights and food was very good. Pleasant atmosphere with good ale. Very interesting building with its history.

Narrow time window to have breakfast as arranged to fit in with coach party. Could have had more toiletries etc in bedroom. Limited choice of evening meal.

Great place to stay and a great selection gor breakfast with lively staff

The only problem we had was that we went down towards the end of the time for serving breakfast and it was getting put away on day 1. It seems geared to the coach party rather that people not on a tour. There was no system to show who still had to have breakfast. No giving a room number or anything. The staff made up a table for us (still 30 mins left) and got extra things. I think you need to make allowances for non coach guests that are not on such a tight schedule. if you want us to have breakfast earlier then change the time. However - we’ll definitely be back.
