It was a lovely old hotel with age and character. Our room was spacious and staff were friendly. We had a very pleasant stay. We ate dinner at the hotel which was pleasant.

It was a little tired and took quite an effort to get to our room. There isn’t an elevator to guests rooms and quite a few stairs in random areas that we had to navigate to get to our room. So with two heavy suitcases and cabin bags, it took quite an effort. The hotel could do with a complete refurbishment. The dining room is huge but lacks any sort of character. We went for a drink in the lounge after dinner but it doesn’t entice you to stay and have a few as it doesn’t have that welcoming pull.

It was a in a cute town and the staff was friendly. They have free guest laundry and after many hikes it was nice for a refresh. They did have breakfast and it was mostly on par with other experiences.

The hotel is a historic building and this should be taken into account when you book. Showers are small and basic rooms are also small. There is a radiator in the room and even with it off there is not much control of the heat/cool in the room beyond opening a window.

Service, Staff, Meals + Free Tea / Coffee for guests after 4pm - very civilised. The Wildlife Section was an unexpected bonus, and the newsletters (including General Daily News) excellent.

Room [Basic Room 403 - perfectly OK]] cleaning adequate, but imagine that influx of Coach Parties (good for Business!) places strain on cleaning Staff to cover work to the usual level in the time available. Also (didn't affect me) but the 'Buffet - Style' Breakfast when Large Coach Parties in may not be to everyone's taste (Are other Guests required to use it?) though appreciate that this may be the way to cope with the numbers all arriving at once. No easy way round this, I suspect, and the Revenue from large Parties in a sense (I hope!) partly cross - subsidises costs for other Guests.

This historic hotel is a fine place to stay in the centre of Grantown, in the Cairngorms National Park. The cuisine, in particular, was excellent. The dinner menu changed each evening and there were lots of gluten free options - a great benefit to me as a coeliac sufferer. Waiting staff were attentive, very helpful and courteous, as were the staff if general. The hotel is particularly good for wildlife and birding enthusiasts, and hopefully a recent change of ownership will not mean the service offered to guests in this respect are not changed or downgraded.

One significant downside on a Friday night was the racket created by 'boy racers', driving their cars at excessive speed along the main street with their exhausts backfiring, well into the early hours of the following morning. Speaking to staff, this seems to be a common problem which has existed for some years. We bore the full front of the noise, having been allocated a room at the front of the hotel.

Comfortable, spacious room, relaxing ambience in public areas, efficient and friendly service. Very good breakfast (didn't have dinner here so can't comment on that). Enjoyed a pint of beer (not overpriced!) in the bar, served by a knowledgable and engaging barman who is clearly passionate about his work.

Parking not ideal. Decor a bit tired-looking (but it was clean and comfortable). Birdwatching theme a bit narrow and pervasive - feels like it's been used to displace association with the traditional hunting/shooting/fishing character of this part of the Highlands.

Imposing old hotel in the very centre of Grantown on Spey. Comfortable rooms and pleasant meals efficiently served. Excellent facilities for bird watchers

To be honest the meal service, both at dinner and breakfast, had something of a mass production feel to it with staff who felt as if they were following a prescribed routine without much human engagement - but, as I said, nothing wrong with the food.

This is one of those grand old hotels with plaid carpeting, stag decor, and photos of birds. They bill themselves the wildlife hotel. They can recommend birding spots. You right next to the Cairngorms and about 30 miles from Culloden. Lovely dinner followed by several drams of the local whiskies in the cozy bar.

Everything was fine. Parking is open in front of the hotel, or I parked down a side street.

This food at this hotel is outstanding. The chef has won awards, it is very reasonably priced, and they are very accommodating. Everything is very clean in the rooms and the staff is very nice. I would absolutely stay here again.

With the heat wave in Scotland, I wish there had been air-conditioning. Under normal circumstances you would not need it.
