My best friend and I spent a night here on our way down from Glasgow to visit friends further south. We have stopped in Northampton before and been so disappointed with the accommodation options, so we were absolutely thrilled to find The Red Lion, and slightly annoyed we hadn’t stayed here previously! The staff were phenomenal, welcoming us with a genuine warm greeting, and being beyond accommodating with us being vegan; explaining which dishes were vegan, telling us about the breakfasts options, the condiments and extras available to us (having vegan Mayo on hand, vegan butter and oat milk for the morning) and providing some great banter, asking how our journey was, ensuring we knew the way to our room etc. The overall atmosphere is wonderful, the kind of snug, relaxing and cosy place you yearn for after a hectic day but big enough to have families there having their dinner. The food was incredible, and a testament that you can provide vegan options on a menu and not fall into the ‘vegetable patty burger’ trap that a lot of pubs go with for ease. We ordered everything that was vegan to share after a long day of driving and a 4 hour traffic jam, and it was worth the wait / drive. The quality and selection was beyond expectation for a wee village pub / inn and we were ecstatic to go to our room happy and well fed (we didn’t even have room for dessert). The room was lovely, spacious enough but cosy feeling, traditional decor but with modern fittings and modern bathroom; the perfect mix. At breakfast (which had several options for us, a rarity!) we loved the decor but especially loved the outside terrace! The pub looks onto a garden and fields which transports you to the countryside despite being in the centre of the village. I would highly recommend anyone and everyone to stay here. We will be staying here for any other trips we have in / near this part of England.

The only dislike I had was that there wasn’t plugs by the bed for charging my phone / setting my alarm.

I had room #1 which was huge! It was under the eaves so not great for a tall person, and there was only a bath whereas I prefer a shower… but the charm of the room made up for it! Also, the breakfast included in the price is amazing and adds to the value for money.

The bed wasn’t very comfortable as way too soft. My friends’ bed sloped into the middle! Time for new mattresses.

Lovely pub accommodation in a beautiful quiet historic village setting. We loved the thatched roof & the historic features. We enjoyed a really nice meal with a few drinks in the bar. Top marks to the young lad under manager who was working his socks off on a busy weekend. The room was lovely. The only slight issue was the very creaky bed which must need a bit of attention & also we couldn’t find any lights for the bathroom so we had some late night weed in pitch black darkness!. We would definitely stay again .

Bathroom lights not working?

The staff was very friendly and helpful, the inn looked great with great breakfast and great dinner in the restaurant. Lovely village. Room looked really nice and was perfectly clean.

The mattress was much too soft. Be careful with the google address that does not match that of booking.com exactly (look for main STREET - not road - and East Haddon in Google - the one on main road is at another closeby village). Make sure you pack ear plugs, this is an old house and other guests getting to their rooms make the floors creek very loudly.

Breakfast suited our tastes once we realised there was latitude to tailor the menu to our requirements ie breakfast pot and a croissant; coffee arrangement excellent. Location ideal for the purpose of our visit. All the staff we encountered were friendly and helpful.

Lack of shelving in the bathroom to put toiletries etc..

We really enjoyed our one night stay at the Red Lion and will definitely stay there again next time we are in the area. Our room was small as we expected, but very comfortable and cosy. Customer service was excellent. Breakfast choices were varied and imaginative. We wished we hadn't eaten so much in the restaurant the evening before!

It's was exceptionally clean and welcoming. Food was great, rooms were furnished and decorated to a very high standard and area was beautiful

The only downside we could mention, is that we came on the way home from Wales on a road trip on motorcycles and the gravel car park was extremely difficult to negotiate on them as there wasn't a hard standing area, especially being loaded up. Put a separate area aside for motorcycles, that would be great!

Everything! The room was lovely and a nice size. The location was pleasant and quaint, and quiet. Nearby villages were lovely and nice that we did a walk the website recommended. The breakfast was also so delicious, very accommodating and so great it's included in the price.

The shower pressure was very poor, but this wasn't a big issue just for a 1 night stay.

The property is stunning and so well looked after. The parking is great. The rooms were lovely and clean. The staff went above and beyond during our stay even preparing us a takeaway breakfast before we left for Silverstone. Could not have been more helpful. Would definitely stay again.
