We were 3 adults (Mother, Father and son) and stayed in a family room. We requested a room with not too many stairs and they were happy to oblige us by putting us on the ground floor. The room was small, but cosy. There wasn't much room for all our luggage (but I have found this to be the case in all our stays in GB). The location was great, very close to Oxford Station and a short walk to the centre of the city with a great variety of pubs, cafes and shops. The hotel car park behind the hotel is next to the River Thames where there is lovely little garden with a table and chairs and bench seat to enjoy the view. Breakfast was provided which was a lovely extra. We had a great choice of cereals, spreads for our toast and a full hot breakfast was offered. I was finally able to have my vegemite (which I had brought with me!) on toast! Tea and coffee were also available. The staff serving us breakfast were very helpful and happy to provide us with any of our requests. There is a lovely little lounge with a drinks fridge that you pay for as you go - it would be a nice cosy place to spend time on a cool day! Overall a good place to stay, with friendly staff.

The hotel sits on the banks of the Thames, and is only 5 minutes walk from the train station and the central city area with restaurants and shops. You couldn’t get a more convenient location. Arriving by car or (train) is easy, with an on-site car park available. The major rental car companies are also only a 5 minute walk for picking up or dropping off a vehicle, as is a laundrette and Waitrose. With the current major road works closing the road at the railway bridge between the hotel and the central city, this does not impact on the access to or stay at River Hotel at all, and pedestrians are still able to access the pedestrian tunnel under the railway, to get to the station and central city. Breakfast was plentiful with a good choice of cooked and continental. Accessing the shower in the ensuite bathroom requires climbing into a slightly elevated bath, which could be difficult for those less able. In this hot weather, it would be good to have the choice of a top sheet with the duvet, as the duvet is too hot, and just a top sheet would be comfortable.

We spent two nights at the River Hotel, which was a pleasant stay. The Hotel is located within walking distance of the city and it is next to the Thames. We enjoyed sitting out in the garden looking over the river. Our room was a good size with our own separate bathroom. It was clean and tidy and very pleasant. The staff were very helpful and they made us feel very welcome. There was a good choice of breakfast and the cooked breakfast was lovely. It was good value for money. I would recommend the River Hotel to anyone who wanted to spend a few nights in Oxford.

Friendly staff. They showed interest in us and what we were doing in Oxford and recommended a pleasant riverside walk into town, which otherwise we would not have found/experienced. The breakfast was excellent. Beautifully cooked Full English breakfast; both the poached eggs and scrambled eggs were perfect. Varied choice of cereals. Also yoghurt, fruit and a choice of preserves and marmalade and fruit juices. Good-sized bedroom and comfortable bed. Traditional decor, but perfectly acceptable. Free private parking on site was a great boon.

Couldn't get the WiFi to work and wall-mounted TV was rather small. But minor quibbles - we only stayed there one night and no doubt the WiFi issue would have been easily sorted out by the staff if we'd asked, but we were out most of the time.

Location was ok, near the train station, a 10 minutes walk to town. The room was quaint, clean and the bed was comfortable. Some people might not like the place which is a bit “old” but I don’t really mind that. The staff were friendly, the guy who checked us in helped to bring up our 2 heavy bags. He served at the breakfast tables too. He was friendly, helpful. The Asian lady was very smiley and very helpful. Cooked breakfast was good.

The price. We thought it was too high but perhaps that’s Oxford, almost like London 😩. We paid slightly more for London and got a great studio in South Kensington. People with mobility issues might need to consider as there is no lift.

The River Hotel is in an excellent location for anyone wishing to walk the Thames Path... and it's a short stroll into the centre. The added bonus is the free parking (one car per room). Parking generally in Oxford is expensive, but my friend and I were both able to park our cars for an additional fee of £10 - very reasonable. The twin room served its purpose and the en-suite was spotless. The breakfast was sublime (with the added bonus of a lovely view over the river). Perfect for an overnight stay.

The bed was a little too soft for my liking - but that could be down to personal taste.

I liked the River Hotel very much: - location: just few steps from the railway station - easy and clear instructions for self check-in (I arrived late because of strikes) - tasty and generous breakfast with a lovely view on Thames - friendly and caring personnel - clean room + bathroom - good wifi I’d stay here again with pleasure, if I am back to the town👍

- One thing I was not impressed with, however, was the window - I felt like it did not shut/was not sealed well. There was a drought and I heard some noise from the road in the morning on a working day.

The breakfast exceeded my expectations. It was fantastic!! Despite reading rave reviews about its breakfast (which raised my expectations), I was still pleasantly surprised how good it was. We even got free hot cross buns as Easter treat!

I was given a room without an en suite bathroom and I asked in advnance if they had any other room available with an en suite bathroom, and I was promptly upgraded, but unfortunately, I was not told that it was going to cost extra, so I was a bit surprised during payment time. Slight misunderstanding there.

Very well-located, a short walking distance from the station and from the heart of Oxford. Nothing fancy, just what you need for a few nights: a clean and comfortable room and en suite bathroom. I enjoyed the fact the hotel was initially a house, which gives it a timeless domestic vibe, as does the copious and distinctly British breakfast served in the dining-room by the owners.

I can't think of anything I disliked. I only wonder if it would have been as quiet had the road not been closed when we stayed.

Simple but good. The bedroom was good with two beds and a bathroom with bath which was nice. The breakfast is delicious and freshly cooked and I liked the fresh fruit offered in the morning. All the staff were friendly and welcoming and its position next to thw river means you have ample walking routes right on your doorstep. The centre of town is about 10 mins walking

You can hear evrrything and everyone in the rooms haha. So very thin walls and floors. But thats really the only bad thing I can think of. The hotel is a little dated, but evrything works and is functional
